I read that farmers were cutting their corn down around NY, I have a spot in CNY that has a couple corn fields. I just haven't had time to go by the lately seeing its an hour away. Just wondering if anyone has any idea when the majority of corn will be getting cut? I was hoping mid October. Thanks

I am 17 and it took me about 6 houses till i got a yes. Be very respectful, try to connect with them. Go and talk to them face to face, you will have a very hard time finding land by putting letters in their mailboxes. Going into it you know more then likely you will get shot down, but guess what, all they can say is no! I grew a pair and did it and it and it was awesome when they said yes!

Luckily this year I have access to hunt a spot with a decently large bean field, and a equally large corn field. I know that early the beans attract great but then once they turn color to a brown they aren't as good to hunt, when in central New York do the beans turn color normally? Would the first two weeks of October offer good hunting over the beans? Also, when do the beans get harvested? Also, when does the corn usually get harvested? Sorry for the long questions, thanks in advance.

So I am VERY pumped, I am 17 and I went out last Saturday determined to find good hunting land because I am sick of hunting poor land. It was the 4th place I asked and I ended up getting permission to hunt land the farmer always apparently tells people "no". I have a couple hundred acres I believe that i can hunt, with some good corn fields. How should I begin scouting this as I have zero history with this place and don't know much about the land. With the corn, it is practically impossible to glass from the road. Also when should I begin scouting, should I begin walking through the woods now? or is it too early? Too early for trail cams? Thanks.

I love using climbing sticks, very easy to use and if you need to change a stand location it is much easier then using screw in steps.

So I just put in 2 plots, one is a chicory and clover mix and the other is a mixture of brassicas and many other seeds. What's the best way to control the weeds? Mowing the clover and chicory right? What about chemical ways?

My doe I shot last season (video)

Thanks guys, I love filming my hunts, you can always tell people the story, but nothing like being able to show them a video. It is like you relive that moment again and again! Challenging but worth it -
Check it out. Thanks!

I went and bought Monster Mix by tecomate , a clover and chicory mix, mainly clover, good reviews. WesterNy that plot is awesome! I am hoping for the same thing in mine. Will post pics of it through out its growing process. Thanks for the help! Can't wait -

thanks for the suggestions! I am definitely thinking clover -
I am putting in a plot for deer hunting. I am looking for the plot to attract from the start of the bow season (not just a winter weather plot). What have you found to work in New York? I was thinking a clover and chicory mixture. Tell me what you have used to get the deer to that plot in bow season, thanks!

IMO , I agree with antler restriction, it lets more deer that are 1.5's live, making a better buck to doe ratio. I just dont see why you would rather shoot a small buck, rather than a doe..... same amount of meat, and by letting those smaller bucks go we are getting more bucks in the heard making it more fun to hunt! Last year i hunted in the cny & northern ADK region, and i hunted a lot, i saw 2 bucks the whole year.... 2! & I saw over 40 does or easily more, and you're telling me we shouldn't have AR ? Please we need everyone to shoot does every year and let the 1.5's go! Making it a more fun hunting expierience, because everyone knows how fun it would be to see a buck almost everytime you're in the woods. We need to kill more does is what needs to happen!
