  1. Last night (10/19) just a couple minutes before sundown, I saw a nice 3.5 yr old 8 point come out of a thick swamp, grunted and chased off a small buck. Then made a scrape and tore the branches above it up. First rutting action I have seen. They're starting to get the itch. This was in CNY.
  2. Last night (10/19) Had a nice 3.5 year old 8 point come out of the swamp crossed a swale, grunted and ran off a small buck and proceeded to make a scrape and ripped a tree up. Grunted at him, but no response. He was at about 100 yards. This was just a couple minutes before sunset. Excited to get back in the woods after this rain. First rutting action I have seen this year.
  3. In the Cicero, NY (North of Syracuse) area where I hunt, the decrease in turkeys these past couple of years has been evident. I mean I hardly see any birds at all, let alone gobblers. I have had two cameras out for a couple weeks about 1/2 mile apart and not one gobbler, only a couple hens. In the past (5-7 years ago) if I drove around the local fields and didn't see a fanned bird that was rare this time of year. Has anyone else in this area or any area where you hunt seen a decrease in turkey population?
  4. The deer was 50 yards off the road, I know it may seem like it was hit by a car by the way I described the area. But, this deer died in its bed.
  5. There is a nice patch of pine trees that come right up to my road, and when driving you can see deer all the time bedded under the pines and walking around etc. and today I could see from the road a crow on top of a deer chewing away.... second deer I have found dead in my area this year.
  6. That is a great buck, and good for you for passing him. I wish I could do that on the land I hunt, but like many of us we are very lucky to see a buck of that size. I would have been mounting him in fact if I shot him lol! I hope some day to have land where I can pass a buck like that. congrats and good luck the rest of the year!
  7. Thanks for the insight I appreciate it! I do believe it is a persimmon tree, because the size of the fruit. I researched this and the size of a persimmons fruit is appx the size of a quarter... Which is the size of the fruit I obtained.
  8. Looked like an apple tree to me, just when I looked at the size of the "apples" I was confused is all. Thanks!
  9. Thanks, I thought so. But was just surprised it still had fruit. Was just curious thanks.
  10. I came across an area killed with deer sign and especially under this tree which still had fruit in it. I don't believe it is an apple tree (if it is I sure will look dumb lol). Anyways the fruit is about 3/4 inch in diameter. And an almost tomato like color. I am not to educated on identifying trees. I know this won't be hard for many of you to identify, thanks.
  11. I was snowmobiling today and went onto Frenchman's Island and around it and whatnot, and it made me curious as if there were any deer on the Island. I doubt there would be deer on it during the winter with all the sleds going on the Island, but maybe they get pushed over to Dutchman's Island. Have you ever heard of deer on the Island or maybe seen deer? Made me wonder is all
  12. Thanks for the advice, I believe the jon boat with the roap will be what we try. makes sense all around
