JG.. invest in a good pair of upland hunting pants, that why you don't tear up your legs in thick cover. -

Enjoy, Doewhacker! I've had setters, Brittanies and English springers... nothing like hunting over a dog. Watching a well trained dog is reward itself! -
I can hardly wait to moving up full time! But, it will be sooner rather than later. All the Best! Steve

High court strikes down Chicago handgun ban

Yes.. but the real critical point here is this. The Supreme Court has officially affirmed by it's decision that the 2ND Amendment IS an INDIVIDUAL RIGHT of every American citizen. That's important! -

Pick up Trucks, SUV's, etc. - What are you driving?
SteveMcD replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm on my second Toyota Rav4. I really like it. High ground clearance ample power and 4 wheel drive when I need it. -
No. If we have to change Plates, they could have come up with a better design. New York is a beautiful state. Unfortunately, this is just another Patterson attempt of getting more money.

Yes, it is just a matter of preference. I started hunting in 1970. I used a Ben Pearson Model 304 take down longbow. My friends who I hunted with all used longbows as well. When the compound arrived on the scene, not one of us crossed over. It is a bit tougher hunting only in the aspect that it is harder and takes more patience of knowing when to draw your bow on the wary whitetail. All things being equal I think all bowhunters just make good hunters.

Working some new ones up now. I'll post pics when they are done.

I love to hunt grouse and woodcock. Although, I normally do not get out until after the deer seasons are over. Sadly not a lot of grouse left here in Dutchess County. I just bought land up in Gilboa, and I know from hunting over in Berne and Renessaerville there are still grouse to be found. -
I enjoy wild places and wild animals. I like the challenge of hunting close. The beauty of the Autumn, it's sunrises and sunsets, the colors of the leaves. The deer runing time. It is therapy for my spirit, it slows me down in a world that moves way too fast. . Perhaps Thoreau said it best, " I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."

Being a traditionalist I make my own arrows, usually Doug Fir woodies and Doug Fir with footed shafts of exotic wood like Bubinga or Purplehaert. As such, I use only glue on blades. I used to shoot Magnus 2 Blades, then Magnus Vented 2 Blades (less finicky in tuning and less apt to wind plane). Currently using STOS 2 Blades with a 3:1 Length:Width ratio - they cut like butter and fly like field tips. I have tried various 3 Blades from Wensel Woodsmans to Snuffers and found 2 Blades tune easier and provide better penetration.

Being a tradional bowhunter and hunting all deer seasons exclusively with a longbow. I practice and shoot all year round. In winter I generally practice once or twice a week, when spring comes it's every other day till hunting season, I target shoot, shoot 3D and stump shoot often. My practice is 95% on Form. If the form is right the bow will take care of the rest.

Hunted from trees when I was much younger. I prefer to be on the ground anymore. Mostly build natural ground blinds and have several locations based upon weather, wind and other conditions. I have also been successful still hunting as well.

Hello, All... I was given the url to come over to this site from SteveB. Just finding my way around but appears to be a great site here. I have a 40 year hunting career. Hunted with Shotgun, Rifle, Muzzleloader, Pistol and Longbow. Over the years for big Game hunting I have been strictly a longbow hunter - just what I enjoy. I am a past president and now director of a local Gun Club, past director of a Local Archery club, and presently secretary of the Dutchess County Federation of Fish & Game Clubs. I am also a Hunter Education Instructor for almost 20 years. Best Regards, SteveMcD

Bobcats are actually more common in New York than many would think. We have quite a few here in Southeastern New York, in the Hudson Valley.
