Agree. Had one walk up to me in a tan jacket and mostly White hat. Shocked to see me in orange I think!

Hunted the Wassaic Multiple Use Area (RS) in Amenia for a second time this year for pheasants. No birds and no sign of any either? Is the state not stocking this area this year?. Great place to run my dog but with no birds makes for a disappointed day for her. The new fencing and gate takes the worry of losing your dog onto rt 22 as well. Any ideas? -
I guess Crappyice is like me! I have run into to many guys lurking on the edges and I don't want to be responsible for shooting in their direction because I did not know they were there.

Hunted for pheasants with my 2 Britt's today at Cranberry Mountain. Was greeted by 3 guys bird hunting with 3 dogs and they were all in full camo. I usually wouldn't care but the field grass is 6' high plus in some areas and I didn't see them until they were 40' from me. Just think its reckless to hunt like that. Any thoughts?

If you are trying to prune the trees to grow apples you will need to take some of the weight off the upper branches and clean up some of the taller suckers. Expose some of the canopy but not too much as it will cause scalding to the bark and cause damage to the tree. Take some of the heavier growth off this year and prune more extensively next year. Fruit should only grow on second year growth so leave some smaller twigs for it to bloom off of. good luck!

I was pheasant hunting inThe Great Swamp today. While I was watching my dogs working a bird inside some thickets on the back side of a field a guy snuck up on me, I just happened to turn around and he was 20 feet from me. Normally I would have seen him but I was concentrating on the dogs in a tight spot. He never said a word until I turned around and he says"Don't Shoot!" A little warning that he was there would have been nice. He tried to ask me about the dogs but I told him they were hot on a bird and ignored him. Just then a hen flies and I take a second to set and shoot. As I pull the trigger I feel this Woosh from behind me and can not hear from my left ear anymore. This A Hole shot at the same time at a bird my dogs pointed and got up in the air. He takes off after the bird and says Good Luck! Is there no respect for others hunters? I called in my dogs and left. This guy was walking the woods outside the fields hoping to take birds from hunters with dogs. Following around the outside is bad enough but to shoot from behind me was dangerous. I still have the ringing in my ear. Wish I could afford to join a club so I would know who is lurking around. If you come across other hunters please repect them and let them know where you are!

Anyone hunting pheasants at Stewart ? Are there many birds there? Do you check in before you can hunt? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I can't get over the numbers of dead bucks you find? I am sure I don't cover as much ground as you wooly ( then who could?) but the number of dead bucks is really sad to see. Makes me wonder about how many are lost in my area that we miss. Keep posting them Wooly, kind of a final tribute to them!

That was me on the roof last winter about now and again in February. It is all a blur now! Very happy not to have that much snow again! A few 6" storms are perfect!

I went out yesterday to look at a piece of land that is supposed to be Open Space...not huntable, mostly swamp with a nice small brook through the middle. I was surprised to find out in the middle of the property was a ladder stand with camo screen around it. On the other end of the property was 2 more tree stands that comes out by a road. You would have to walk a long way to get to the one in the middle. Anyway did not see any horns but did find a young otter that must have died before the last snow. No marks on him, hard to determine what he died from. Off to other property
