WHAT A GREAT IDEA......MAKE IT SO. -
Welcome Doug and Glenn - I don't know if anyone told you yet, but the new guys buy the first keg. Just kidding. Tell us more about youselves so we can get to know you better. Rob

Maybe you could elaborate a little more............ Are you looking for hunting partners or a place to hunt? Hunting the whole season or for a limited time? Hunting with bow, gun or both?

John - As a sales manager for a flexible packaging company I used to tell our production manager, “Don’t tell me why it can’t be done, tell me how it can be.” What would that be called? Call it anything you have a mind to. FIND-A-BUD, HOOKUPS, LOOKING FOR MY NEXT OUTDOORS LIFE-LONG FRIEND, WANTED: HUNTING AND FISHING BUDDIES, or simply ANYBODY WANT TO GET OUT? Bass Pro had a forum called FIND A FRIEND. My personal choice would be CONNECTIONS. And how do you organize it? Well it would help it members knew where other members reside. I don’t think I am the only one here who checks the Introductions section to see if a new member lives in my part of the state. That’s a start. One suggestion is to let those who want to, post and others who want to, reply. I mean we certainly don’t want anyone forced into making a new friend or two now, do we? I once belonged to a now closed fishing site that even hosted a picnic for members to meet and get to place a face with a user name. Everybody was encouraged to bring their families, their own meat, and a dish to pass. Anyone bringing a grill to cook on also brought charcoal and that was their dish to pass. It worked out well. We had it at a pond so members could fish. It was held up here in the Rochester area and members came from all over, one from down on the PA border. We became closer and more chatting was done on the board. Maybe it could be organized by (a like D.E.C.) regional areas yet would be open to those outside the region who wants to post or reply. In time regional members may also choose to meet. I made some close friends because of that site. One is a member here too. He happens to be a deputy sheriff who gets his days off in the middle of the week sometimes. Everybody else he fishes with is at work so he calls me because I am retired. Another very close friend just died last month. He took Fridays off during the summer to fish and we would get out often. Still another I have fished with is now interested in expanding his outdoor adventures to include deer hunting. I will let him use some of my extra equipment so he might see if hunting is something he wants to do regularly. That’s what friends do. The problem also is that NY is a big state. Yes, NY is a big state. So? As I stated earlier….. Some of us don't have a problem with and actually enjoy driving a little bit to fish a new body of water and if we can meet a new buddy in the process, that's a bonus. Last September I drove alone and back from Rochester NY to Bingham ME to fish and hunt black bear on a donated guided hunt for disabled sportsmen. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. The B&B, meals, and guide services were all free. All I paid for was my transportation costs and license fees. I never did harvest a bear but made a friend. The owner invited me up (although I couldn’t attend) this past spring for a turkey hunt/fishing week and again for this fall’s black bear season. I am a personable human being, a sportsman, and a man with physical limitations in that order. I like to think his invitations are due mostly because of my personality and less because he just wants to do a nice thing for “the crippled guy.” In a nutshell, those who want to participate will and those who don’t, won’t. -

I'd like to see a section where one or more members can team up for a fishing or hunting adventure. I subscribed to a site that had one and made a couple of new friends. Some of us don't have a problem with and actually enjoy driving a little bit to fish a new body of water and if we can meet a new buddy in the process, that's a bonus. Maybe too some of us could get together to establish a band of hunters to start an annual deer camp. Traditions have to start somewhere. Why not here? Rob -
Question on my Mossber 500
Str8shooter_USA replied to drwost's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
If you opt for a cyl. bore, contact me by personal message or email. I have a slug barrel in pristine condition for the Mossberg 500 12 gauge. I can make you one heck of a deal. Rob -
Was out bass fishing yesterday on Honeoye Lake with two friends. Between the 3 of us we must have boated around 50 bass all but one on plastic worms. I even managed a nice walleye(about 4 1/2 #) on a plastic worm. No cameras aboard.

I am about a week away from filing paperwork in NY state for a nonprofit corporation. Physically Challenged Sportsmen of America (www.pcsaonline.com) promotes greater access to the outdoors for sportsmen with limitations. We'd like to stage an event or two as early as this fall. I am looking for a person who would allow hunters with special needs to bow and/or later gun hunt for deer on their property. The land would have to be accessible by vehicle and ATV. The idea is to place our guys (some in wheelchairs) in strategic locations to give them an opportunity to shoot a deer. Retrieval would be done by an able-body helper. Land owners are held harmless of liability by NY law. More details can be provided. Any kind hearted people out there? Rob

NY crossbow bills....
Str8shooter_USA replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
Chevy- This is my second day on here and I promisied myself not to pi$$ anybody off for at least a week. Now I know you're entitled to your opinion but think about it, they call it a crossbow not a crossgun. Any questions? sits in trees - I like your sense of humor. Rob -
Thought you might like to see mine. They were caught in the Erie Canal on lures. Good luck to you. Rob

Quality affordable scopes? What do you use?

Just last year I bought the Nikon Omega with BDC to mount on my new Mossberg 935 Combo. I was pleased with the grouping when I sighted it in. On my Winchester 670A 30-06, I have a Simmons. All other guns have Bushnell. Rob -
I live in Gates NY, west of Rochester. Can't get enough of the outdoor life. Just hunt turkey ,deer, and waterfowl all from blind or other cover due to mobility limitation. Use an ATV to better access the woods. Although I may hunt state land with the ATV, I have permission to hunt on 3 plots of private land in Chili and Hilton. I am also an agent to hunt crop damage deer during the summer months. Fish whenever possible with different friends who own a boat and want some company on the water. Some have odd days off during the week, another is also retired, and one other takes Fridays off during the summer to fish. Hoping to meet new friends here. Maybe we can get out. Rob

Chevy - I'm new here too. Checking the introductions, I see you too are from Monroe County. I live in Gates and just wanted to say hello. Rob

NY crossbow bills....
Str8shooter_USA replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
I hope Paterson signs the bill into law for a few reasons. Although I would prefer my compound bow over the crossbow for ease in handling, it would be nice to have an alternative should I lose more upper body strength. I suspect the law would encourage more archers to hunt the season thereby increasing revenue. The arguments used by that narrow minded organization (not mentioning names but the initials are NYB) are archaic. Comparatively speaking there is no sound basis that a crossbow has any advantage over compounds or recurves. In truth the opposite is true. They are heavier, more cumbersome, and louder. There are members here who would disagree and I'd welcome their responses if only to generate more activity on this new site. After all they believe they are "right." They are not "right"....just misguided. Rob -
I feel… it is very important to have a memorably complete introduction. After all, how else will anyone get to know me or me you? I used to dread coming up with something to say to introduce myself as a new member to a site. Know what I mean? After composing the following mini bio, all I do now is copy and paste. Oh, I’ll make a change here and there to keep all you folk current. I’m a sweetheart that way. LOL Okay, here I go again… Hi all – A little about me: I am Rob. A resident of the Rochester NY area, I have hunted for over forty years since my teens and have fished even before that. Now a retired accountant, I have a lot of time available to pursue my interests and to locate all those hunting and fishing buddies I haven’t met as yet. I prefer to be outdoors with others. Call me, I’m ready to go. Barb says it’s okay, really. A minor inconvenience (I am mobile with my cane, walker, scooter or ATV) of a disability has since slowed me down but hasn’t stopped my passion for the outdoors. In the past, I had limited my hunting to deer and turkey but now include waterfowl as they all can be done from my blind or other cover. In September 2009 I went on a donated guided black bear hunt in Maine. No bear, but had a great time. I’d like to try my hand at feral pigs or boar someday. I will hunt with a rifle, shotgun, bow, or muzzleloader. I fish too. A while back, I had fished bass tournaments with two local clubs. I started at Rochester Bassmasters and then was a founding member of Flower City Sportsmen. Now I just enjoy whatever is biting. As of 2008, I am without a boat. Some buddies of mine who have off from work during the week call sometimes to see if I can get out with them in theirs. I’m always ready. LOL I’d rather fish in a boat than from shore anytime so if you want company in yours sometime, call me. Retirement makes me available 24/7. Some friends and I have started a web site (www.pcsaonline.com) for sportsmen with limitations called Physically Challenged Sportsmen of America. Soon we hope to incorporate into a non-profit entity. That’s taking up a bit of my time. My other interests include ATV riding, playing Euchre or Texas Holdem, cooking, shooting pool, and workshop projects. Let’s see, what else? Not a stranger to opening my mouth and adding my $.02 worth to a discussion. Kinda set in my ways. Spent some time cutting, pasting, and deleting (for you computer savvy people) pieces of me until I found a person I can live with while looking in a mirror. Here I am. Whether you like or dislike me it's okay. I'm not changing. After putting this amount of time in writing my bio here, I am expecting some "welcome aboards" or "howdys" or even "what an a$$" from you readers. Don't be shy now. Rob
