theres a give and take, theres things about city life that i hate and love and the same for the country. so i would agree with you... ill tell you tho, growing up from 18 - 24 or so there is no better place for being in that age bracket then LI. The best parties/clubs and so on are at your finger tips with an abundance of amazing looking girls. City, Central LI, Hamptons, i mean if bars/clubs and women are your things it cant get any better lol. as you get older your priorities change and those amenities you have your finger tips here tend to be not important anymore. id much rather a more laid back life style taking in some clean air and enjoying some lake activities. Everything has been done on the island, pretty much literally. in aspects there are far more opportunities upstae for someone looking to invest, open a business and so on. at least in my eyes...

is your septic going bad on you a yearly occurrence??? i mean yeah i see where you are coming from but those are the maintenance issues you have to deal with for living upstate, we have our own. I get in aspects you pay alot for things here n there, i would hope you dont have septic issues every year... because if you have to that to pay for every year id get out if i was you BUT if that is something THAT MAY be a possibility of going bad, well then you have to roll with the punches. to me thats property maintenance i get you have to go through the proper channels and it may be a pricey path. i never stated that taxes up there were higher, because they are NOT. i said they are comparable. i have houses out here that are 280-300K homes paying well over the 12k mark, thats insanity. i mean you sound like you are the only one who has normal wear and tear on vehicles, gas money and so on. you think you pay more in gas? are you kidding me? We have bumper to bumper out here and we eat gas for way less miles, EVERYDAY... If i can hop on a road and not worry about going, stopping going stopping id be pretty happy. im not going to get in a debate on how much you pay out each month, wear n tear and so on. when it comes to taxes, YES up there you guys do have pretty high taxes for the most part. but if i was to buy a house up there comparable to what i own, i can get bigger and better up there FOR CHEAPER with nearly the same taxes and at the end of the month i would be paying half up there vs here on LI trust me. Say if i was to move, id get a better bang for my $ up there and own something on a nice size lot, bigger house, newer construction for less. Ive looked into it. you want to lough, look into what you can get out here for what you bought your house for and check taxes, you would throw up. not trying to get into a pissing match with ya by any means. Its disgusting what this state charges us to live in NY and like Doc said, at the end of the day we dont even own what we think we own lol.

i agree Doc... i have a feeling this will continue to go on for a long time. At this point its hoarding. People are freaking out and making it VERY difficult for others to buy ammo. Guys are so scared they just cant stop buying it up. Its like the gas out here on LI when some sort of disaster is coming or even 6" of snow. they all freak out, its unreal.

where do you get these figures from?? lol seriously... take a 15 year term? so with a mortgage and property tax with a monthly of just that on say a 315K house, plus roll your closing costs of 16K into your note and at 4%int your roughly monthly would be around 2800 JUST for mortgage and interest at a 30 year term at a 15 year term it almost double. 90% of middle class CAN NOT afford that. remember, the biggest reason this country is going down the tubes is due to banks and the housing market... i mean if people walked to work, lived on rice and beans and did nothing but stay home it still wouldnt work not tomention no one would spend money outside of living and the world as we know would END. besides, you can knock a 30 down to 20 by making 1 principle payment each year...

Doc its a numbers game bud... yeah your Interest was higher but your housing was dirt cheap and in the 40 years you owned the amount of equity you would have made is alot higher then what my generation would get. yeah our int is lower but houses are 3-4 times higher then said 30-40 years ago. now a days we pay top dollar and our market generation will see no where near the property increase in years to come.

LI boy?? i have septic out here on the island at my house and have to worry about that backing into my house and maintaining that as well... i dont have sewer in my town... and you refer to "you down staters" as if i was the one who doesnt want you to burn garbage, I CAN CARE LESS WTH you burn... i have a commercial 48" walk behind to cut my lawn and works wonders, im not looking for 5 acres open field first off, im looking for maybe an acre with the rest wooded which i have found plenty. if you think you pay more up there YOU ARE NUTS... your mortgages up there are not 3k a month just for your house on small 1/4 acre lot with a 1500 sq foot home so keep dreaming. you sound hell bent over what you pay but dont compare your monthlys to out here. i was comparing taxes and taxes only. in that aspect its comparable but trust me, you dont want my bills... i have a .5 acre lot, 2000 sq ft home built in the 60s, my taxes and mortgage is crazy, take it from me...

what county are you in? I was just entertaining the idea about up there... It doesn't necessarily have to be Chemung but i have friends and family there and it would be nice to be close to them... The house would have to be somewhat of a new construction, pref on around 2-5 acres or more, under 300K with lower taxes... i found a really nice house on 5.5 acres built in 2009 (3500sq ft) for around 220K taxes were 7k. i mean with nicer caliber houses up there are cheaper then LI but with comparable taxes so either way its still cheaper up there but i was thrown a curve ball when i saw the taxes... is it because up there has less people per capita or something and they have to make up for the less population? lol

i know your used to westchester county taxes... but if you think 9k is a good price for 1100sq ft then i need your money lol. i get what you say about more property BUT you assumed upstate had high taxes because they have more land with their dwellings in SOME cases? i always thought upstate was on a much lower taxation scale then surrounding NYC counties and LI. maybe its just me?

honestly i was not expecting to see the taxes that far up carry a price tag like that! i would expect counties closer to the city to be somewhere in that ball park but chemung county? lol its crazy

I was looking at some houses upstate in the Chemung County area and i can not believe how much property taxes are up there! i mean the pricing on houses are very good, newer constructions for around the 250K mark on anywhere from 1.5 - 5 acres or so but the taxes are 6-9k? WTH is with that?? i thought taxes up there were like 2-3k... LI taxes are 6 or 7K plus on houses well over the 3-350k mark. a home with property up there assessed for like 180K is 7K in taxes a year, how does that even make sense? on 180K... Any counties up there where taxes are cheaper?
