  1. Congrats on getting out, sprained my wrist and can't button my pants, never mind hold the bow. Enjoying reading all the stories, thanks
  2. I shoot the hornady superformance 165. Any other ammo I've tried doesn't pattern nearly as well for me. Trial and error but it gets expensive.
  3. Hello. After a frustrating unsuccessful rifle season I am looking for some ideas for tag recipes. I am trying to decide wether to make some tag soup or tag jerky. My idea for the soup is to simply cut it into bite size pieces and put the tags into a boiling pot of water with a package of ramen noodles. I am partial to chicken ramen but considering using a package of beef to have the closer to venison taste. My other thoughts were to prepare the cure/seasoning mixture of hi mountain jerky seasoning, lightly cover the dry tags and place in an air tight container in the fridge over night. My question is how long in a slightly open oven would you guys recommend without running the risk of too much shrinkage and getting tough? Any new ideas would be greatly enjoyed. Congrats to all that were successful.
  4. Well doc,I was hoping that was the case but my curiosity got the best of me. I asked and it was confirmed.these fellas were with there buddy and the two had never been in the woods deer hunting but were to join there buddy for a hunting trip. It made me wonder if any hunter safety course was taken. I live going to hunting stores the day before deer season to watch all the unprepared scurry around. I'm also the guy that loves black Friday shopping. Not to shop but to watch the show around me.its great.
  5. I am not against the guys that shoot just before or just after the exact sunrise and sunset times. I'm just trying to teach the rules to a 14 year old. He's spent plenty of time in the woods and I'm trying to make sure he understands all the rules. The last shot we heard was 510, 40 minutes past sunset.
  6. I counted 62 shots between 610 and 647.sunrise today in 4t was 648 so apparently not many guys care about this law. Makes it difficult to teach the rules when all the shooting starts so early.there was plenty of shooting light by 630.
  7. This evening at 8 pm I observed 2 guys purchasing slug guns at gander mountain. The clerk said there bore sighted, should get you on paper knowing full well that in less than 12 hours these guys will be in the woods. Nice to see they put there time in at the range. Good luck all.
  8. It makes hunting so miserable. Its discouraging to not only lose hunting land rights but to have scumbags steal. I've had hunting equipment stolen and destroyed. I even once had a20 pound fire extinguisher stolen from the bed of my truck while in the woods. I'm leaning towards paying to go on hunts rather than the same foolishness year after . I don't have the $ to pay to hunt, but I also don't have the $ to have stuff stolen and destroyed.
  9. Great story hillbilly, I like to take grandpas Winchester 64 3030 out once a year. Saturday I'll be using my savage 116 30-06 with busnhel elite 3200. Hornady superformance 165.
  10. WOW! I waited and am not impressed. what on earth was this guy thinking with that shot? most people won't consider a shot thats not broadside or quartering away and some bozo takes this shot
  11. there are a couple resturants that open early for opening day, usually its a big breakfast before the woods. the sunday after the opener there is a local firehouse that does a breakfast, usually slip out of the woods for breakfast around 9
