  1. what does one have to do with the other...smh
  2. Not my cup of tea, but these stories seem to come up every couple months or so,, its purely anti hunter driven, like the girl who shot the giraffe couple months back, and the rich texas girl who went on a few safaris before that ,,they post their pics and let the ignorant masses have at em.... What baffles me is I thought African "dangerous game" had a caliber requirement of .375 or more,, so why is bowhunting even allowed?? Wounding and tracking these bowshot monsters all over creation just draws attention and adds fuel to the fire,,,if youre gonna pay 50K to add a lion to your big 5 bragging rights... just wack it with a big rifle and be done with it...Stop trying to be Fred friggin Bear! JMHO
  3. Not to get into a xbow debate but if using one on nov 1st was ok last year, it should be ok this year, if gun starts a week later this year than why not 3 weeks of crossbow? closer to the rut doesnt matter because last year I had a rifle in my hand on this years "closer to the rut" crossbow week, so Im not really gaining any advantage am I?
  4. I see your point but its the dates that are lost, not so much the amount of time that bother me. Im usually tagged out by the 7th, this thing seems useless to me now.
  5. I just checked out the dec site, crossbow starts nov 7th this year.. it was nove 1st last year...So I shelled out 700$ for a crossbow and I only get to used it for 2 weeks assuming I havent tagged out with my compound yet. SMH
  6. Surprised no one said "Big bucks the Benoit way" best deer hunting book ever written!
  7. Thank you sir ! Think Ill let #2 go till the fall, need more fishing and reloading time> Good luck all
  8. Got on this huge group of birds before fly down time. The live hens didnt seem to interest the 3 gobblers as much as my calls and the hens actually followed them to my position which led me to believe most breeding has already occurred?? when the biggest one stepped into the 30yds zone I let him have a shwacker tipped arrow. He went 10yds and died with very little blood loss despite the huge holes the arrow left in and out at the base of the wings. Im guessing over 20lbs 10"beard 1"spur . Nice redemption after missing on May 2nd Carbon Express- Intercept Supercoil 175# Executioner arrows/Shwacker 100gr (425gr TAW) HS strut diaprham
  9. I believe these are angle eject, they wouldnt be drilled and tapped if they were top eject..Good choice though, win94 (clone) is superior in design/quality to marlin IMO. I pondered one of these till I found a AE 94 cheap but they didnt have the laminate stock marine finish then, nice upgrade.
  10. I must say Ive been truly blessed in 2014...started off with a nice limit of geese over cut corn on 9/13 followed by a beautiful bear on the 14th.... bowhunted hard in oct with no luck on a buck, but did get a decent gobbler from the stand to christen in my new Martin Nemisis...after seeing nothing but groups of does for 5 weeks I scored on my best bow buck to date, a 19"wide 2.5y/o 8pt.... no luck on opening day of gun but the next day I scored my 1st handgun kill with a nice doe at 70yds(missed 2x @ 50 lol) with my S&W 29... Nov 30th I killed my best gun buck, a heavyish 3.5 y/o 8pt ......with the freezer busting at the seams I was feeling greedy and gonna pack it in, but yesterday I decided to jump in the stand and score a little "give away meat" with a transferred dmp. Got busted by a FAT doe with 3 fawns around 9.. at 10 I almost decided to pack it in when a group of 3 mature does came into range and I double lunged the biggest one at 20yds very enjoyable late season bowhunt with snow on the ground ....I gotta say this was my best season in my 15 years of hunting and still cant believe my luck, but what Im most thankful for and proud of, was that all kills were quick and clean and required zero tracking.
  11. 1st handgun deer....70yds...Smith & Wesson 29 44mag 240gr hollow point
  12. Shot this wide 8 pt yesterday not long after getting in the stand around 9:30am. He was grunting and following a group of does. He walked into a clear lane at 30yds and I let a 125gr Sonic head fly, hitting him right behind the shoulder with a complete pass through. He gave a slow short run before stopping and falling over. This wasnt his 1st time having an arrow flung at him as you can see the huge gash along his left side belly, took a nice chunk outta his rt leg too. Didnt slow him down a bit. Hes now my best buck to date with any weapon as he beats my 2010 bucks 18" inside width by over an 1" The sharp rear molars tell me hes most likey 2.5 yo. Local: Rockland co. Bow: Martin Nemesis 35
  13. Its delicious! Ive taken 3 bears in 11years all were tasty and worm free, I actually find it to be more tender than venison but to each their own. Tric is found in pigs too
  14. Exactly, I have used my API for 15 years dont plan on ever changing, I can chain it to a tree, climb, and be sitting securely with my bow hanging next to me in 10-15min, its like 2nd nature to me, noise is not even an issue, if I owned thousands of acres i would still hunt from it. I feel climbers are safer than hang ons because you eliminate the motions of stepping on and off the platform from tiny steps. hanging hang ons is even scarier if you dont have 3 arms. and ladders?? I wont even go there. The only downside is finding thick, straight and soft trees to climb but in the rare occasion I find myself in a hot spot with no trees I just find a good place to sit on the ground and brush up.
  15. Congrats thats a big one...what are you shooting? (bow, weight, broadhead, arrow)
  16. Congrats! glad to hear you're still at it and now bowhunting. My # is 845 499 0584
  17. Yeah! forgot about that, how are you, did you ever ger a deer?
  18. I hunted SF for 10 years when I lived in GWL. Did most of my bowhunting in the Clinton woods area off 17a. Killed a few deer, turkeys and a bear. Gets hit hard in gun season though. Been some changes since then but you got a green pkg pass for your car and a small permit to carry on you. A good and overlooked area of SF is the access point on Candle rd off W. Mombasha rd in Monroe, lots of deer and bear up there but its off the main rd so youd probably wanna scout it out before opening day so you can find it and get a feel of the terrain. Hunted West point couple times, didnt care for it, you needed a 3p doe tag and have to shoot a doe and check it before you can take a buck. Cant hunt opening day unless youre military and by the time you check in and get to your spot its at least 1/2 hour after sun up. You also dont know where youre gonna hunt until you check in and unless youre there super early all the best spots are taken. Not sure about now but then you couldnt shoot a bear either.
