  1. Well there you go proving my point...it's every where and when you have ppl not afraid to shoot officers it's more than a sad state of affairs...not paranoia...not just DRAMA....nor selfishness to keep an eye out and expect the worst hope for the best....Hell today I approached a truck that backed into the drive and sat Idoling...actually an empty flat bed....2 ppl and a dog was all I could see...the driver stepped out and I asked if he needed something?...no I wasn't smiling like some hapless twit..it was a firm questioned asked...and yes they needed directions....asked answered and I sent them on the easiest route...I doubt he wanted to stick a 45 in my face
  2. 5.9 cummings...Oh I agree with you whole heartedly...That was PURE SARCASM to the fact nearly no one responded to the following and then JUMPED on the kid thing....double standards don't much fly with me .....
  3. It's the rabbits and chucks here...now I like a good rabbit stew....but the chucks just tear up tractor tires...good for nothing but target practice
  4. This stuffs been going on for a lot longer than I've been here and I believe the home invasions were tied to Rochester area....but with the booming heroine business that is happening in one not too far away village...I'm sure a lot of the house stripping and other copper stealing is all local... Actually Pygmy I would think with the cops being shot at and shot over the last several years in Steuben county where your from they should hire Tony...I don't need help...notice I didn't mention being robbed...I have one other neighbor that wasn't hit either..but she watches her lands as well and we both have several very lrg trained dogs....Isn't it Steuben where Bucky Philips came from?...and didn't Steuben just have a cop car shot up and a high speed chase last week?...I love radio stations from there... Steuben has some winners as well...The facts are this stuff is getting more and more common out here and it's just making the need to be alert as to whats going on more important...ie example...some of you living way out in the country try Googling how many child sex offenders you have living in your area...that will tilt your head a bit I bet...when the suburbs don't want them on release where do you think your counties are steering them to? The days of rose colored glasses are over
  5. that's too late....the sheriffs and troopers are up here a lot actually....domestic violence... drugs.....some locals are wild about the 4 wheelers...I don't much care as long as they stay on the road but others..not so much....lots of dog attacks and a real rash of home invasions that kept them busy for months...personally I only call when I've tried every other avenue...which is how I've been verbally accosted a few times...but the ppl that live near me....not the ones that come in to make trouble...have more than once told me they are glad I'm around....it has kept them from having as many problems as in the past You know I like driving around and seeing deer and eagles.... fox ...bear and turkey but I go when it's light out and have seen many a fine buck....I've never needed to go out and invade another persons property and space with a high powered beam of light...I suppose it's a do unto others thing for me...walking in anothers shoes sorta speak
  6. Well I can't blame him and 80 #'s of fright is very dangerous...all it takes is 1 well places slice/kick of a young hoof to the neck or temple and it would be him carried out dead....but I would let it do it's thing...and call the insurance company...why risk it
  7. lol..... that's just a little of it....cop suicides ...farmer suicides ....buried "growing" operations...old mofia body remains...yep.....it's an interesting area to live
  8. Just in the hills in the finger lakes...we gave police # ..color ...make and model of car from the last robberie of guy next door...right back to Rochester...they recovered part of his guns in a dumpster but never made an arrest...the owner had lent the car out!!??...Go figure
  9. one year several ago a town clerk near by opened at 4 a.m. so ppl could get extras...yep there I was...actual having to stand in line at 4am..word of mouth travels fast...now I just hit wally world
  10. Nice pics guys ...Eddie that looks like a great spot and the trail would be a nice quiet walk in for ya....I have to mow my trails on Tuesday...the frost this a.m will get the leaves dropping in earnest so I'll do clean up just before the openers...Good luck!!
  11. arrow nocker....I have to consider us lucky...guy next door had his door kicked in and all guns an bow stolen 2x's....guy below him had their place broken into and robbed 2x's....different years on those ppl...any how .. The last time they were wintering south...they had a pick up at the house...all possessions were loaded into the pick up and the pick up was stolen too...not before house ransacked and all doors left open to the weather...they are selling now...had enough so your right....but it's a lot of ppl that come in from other areas that cause the biggest problems
  12. Thanks that was very interesting....haven't tried them yet but always willing to try new things....
  13. I'm like you get them right away and then relax about it...sorry they missed out but at least now they can be signed over so...maybe the can find a friend or to with extras....I'm assuming the boys get tags for areas other than yours?..heard you mention hunting and camp areas
  14. That's right !!!.....those yungins should be drawn and properly quarter...take their guns and vehicles away and give them to the old poacher in the assisted living home that got away with poaching and killing a protected "American symbol"....because being a young dumb ass is so much more devious than being an older experienced dumb ass....Just so many WOW moments here...lol
  15. the guys at the archery shop told me every 100shots on my new bow...but I let my hunting conditions dictate
  16. Turkey are uneasy in the woods during rain ...they can't hear trouble coming as well ....so they hit the open ground....the guys are right you need to look where they are feeding in the woods....but if your not use to calling and not sure what calls are really what...I personally wouldn't go for the breaking up flocks to call in ...but rather watch and try to head them off...sit and listen to the wild birds talking this helps tremendously in your own calling....look for roosting tree which means keep and eye out for lots of droppings under trees with sturdy limbs and be in the woods at dusk...they make a bit of noise going to roost....then set up on them before light the next morning...good luck have fun.....
  17. Well all I can say is today marks day 6 of rain at our place and when it's not rain it's a heavy fog that might as well be rain...in the field next to us where there is ALWAYS one to four mature buck in the early mornings at sunrise and evenings an hour before sun set I've seen just one 4pt all year and 13-17 doe and fawn...nothing on any of the cams....save doe fawn and turkey,,,,but on the way home at 6pm yesterday I had a nice young 8pt pop out of the woods an 1/8 of a mile from the property line..ran across the road...stop turned back and ran the edge straight at me before popping back into the woods....that has hopes up...for he looked like something was chasing him...hoping bigger buck not yote or dogs
  18. Well I'm glad to see my thread expanded to ppl wanting to give their opinion and not decide to call me names because I gave mine ..hhhmmm hope there I have to laugh at this particular post choice though.... for it brings up another problem that many land owners I know and happend to me once.... have..I now have hard wire around them...I know one guy that went out and spray painted and orange stripe down his trees...lol not sure I'd want to see that when looking at them but he was angry and rightfully so No not the Santa clause....but the blue spruce.... hemlock or Concolor we've been growing for ten years....Just such a wonderful feeling having your trees cut and stolen or the tops cut out of them.... PS ...there isn't a place around us that can be legally spotted from the road the way the homes and barns are staggered here and if they can here me yell hey when we are 320 feet off the road they are illegal...but still it comes down to respect and lack there of...just thowing out food for thought
  19. There are two different types of sorghum ...the grain and the forage sorghum...grain is not sweet and the deer seem to avoid it .....the forage sorghum they will hit due to the starch sugar conversion but you could risk prussic poisoning ....although grain sorghum contains high prussic levels it is less desirable to deer until fully mature....at which stage the prussic levels are usually significantly less
  20. then seeing you got me on this again...you say your don't spot but some "over zealous " land owner near came to looking down your 45...gee who was the aggressor?...I now have to wonder what you were doing if not spotting to get him to approach you? See land owner don't have to deal with just idiot hunters and poachers any more...the ppl up the road had their new property treated like a public dump.....caught the guy and had to go through that hassle.....We had so much trash on our road frontage we had to dig a ditch with the backhoe and bury it.......there have been bodies dumped out in the surrounding hills....we deal with drug dealers and growers from the city coming out here So as I said respect comes into play and unless you own property and walk in any of our shoes...try wiping that sarcasm from your lips or mind as it were before typing
  21. Your response does not surprise me in the least...I see you didn't bother quoting this .... I also see you twisted it by saying "my" deer...I never said they are "my" deer ...turkey...yotes squirrel what ever...but it is my land...and if I where to go in at 3 a.m. to set up on a field call for an hour to get yotes to come in...I don't want some inconsiderate AH to drive up with his 10 million power light and sweep over that field scaring what ever is out there away....Not to mention..for I just KNOW whats coming next.....not being able to shoot for fear that same AH would call the cops and say I was shooting at him....your response is just stellar really
  22. Now that you got me back to this,,,Just think about this...especially you guys that spot and have your own hunting properties to go to and work to bring deer to... You do a bunch of work at your hunting grounds.... but do you really go there and bother the deer at night or in the wee hours of the morning by shining lights in their eyes while they are trying to bed down or feed?...especially you guys trying to hunt "trophies"...or do you drive around the area spotting other ppls lands to see what in the general area so not to disturb your spot....ohh see where respect may come into play there?...hhmm never mind...I suppose not.............
  23. Ya know I'm not a bad nor paranoid person...but when you've had the consistent craziness that happens in this part of region 8 happen and a DEC that doesn't much care... it gets to you...and when you step out on your porch to see 2 idiots drawing down on your WHITE GOATS in the middle of the day with a bow from a truck bed...well having guys cruising and spotting your property puts the radar up If my pointing things out bothers ppl well...that may be their problem...other I believe can relate to some of this stuff...I don't think the DEC is out to get me...and apparently not anyone else that "might lie" but seriously I've spoken to and met many good DEC officers ...one in reg 8 but mostly other regions...9
