  1. The furlough has been in place for the past two weeks. Salary employees worked, while hourly employees got laid off for the past two weeks without pay. Everyone is scheduled to go back tomorrow morning but theres another week coming up in December that they get laid off again.

Sure, Remington isn't what it used to be, but they aren't as terrible as some make it out to seem. They still make a quality gun at an affordable price. I own many remington's both new and old, all of them work flawlessly.

  2. I hope for my next gun purchase to be a 35 rem pump if i can find one for a decent price. It seems like they're going for around $1000 on gunbroker when you can find one. I feel like the 35 calibers are perfect fits for the 7600/760s and am looking forward to breaking in my new 7600 carbine this upcoming season. I would like to make a 358 win some day also.

  3. In my opinion, no one makes a "bad" truck today, its just whatever you prefer. If i were to buy a brand new half ton truck tomorrow, it would definitely be between ram or GM just because i like the GM's and my dad has always owned rams with no problems at all. The ram interior is nicer than GM's in my opinion. I get what you're saying about fords not rusting because they're aluminum, however aluminum does oxidize. I'm sure we'll see what the NY winters do to them in the coming years.

Kind of off topic, but If i was in the market for a 2500 or bigger, id probably go with GM because their new HD's look the best and their diesel has 950 ft lbs of torque.  I do like the cummins engine however.

  4. Forget about the shotgun, I love the finish on that scoped rifle.  Is that a Remington 700 BDL?  Sure looks like an original BDL stock.  Looks like you stripped the original stain off of it and then re-varnished it in natural wood color.  Looks great!!

Thanks, I just picked that up also. It's a 300 win mag bdl with a curly maple stock. Pictures don't do it justice.

  5. Just picked up an older 870 magnum a couple weeks ago. Think I'll use this one this year instead of my super mag. I kind of like the "vintage" camo pattern on it. Made in the early 90s I believe. Here's the only picture I have of it because I have yet to take it in the woods with me.

  6. If you're good on keeping up with cleaning them, then id look for a nice used Remington 7400. I have the 750 and i love it, but they got a bad reputation for jamming. Mine however shoots great and I've never had an issue.

I saw the benelli r1 at herbs last week and was really impressed with the looks of it. The price also wasn't bad at all.

If you're looking for a semi auto shotgun you can't go wrong with either the Remington 11-87 or 1100. Super easy to clean, and you get the advantage of being able to swap barrels for different occasions.

  7. I'm not trying to start any arguments with anyone about this topic, however, i disagree with the whole situation. One occurrence was where two young boys were home alone arguing with each other when one of the boys pulled out his 700 and aimed it at his brother when it "accidentally" discharged. Is it a sad occurrence? YES, but where is the proof that it accidentally went off? There is none, and if i remember correctly, the news said that the rifle was later inspected and deemed to be in perfect working order. Of course the family doesn't want to accept the fact that maybe, just maybe, their son did in fact shoot their other child. Maybe if the kids were taught proper gun safety the accident would have never happened. I do feel sorry for the families loss, but in no way do i believe it was the guns fault.

  8. Even though I have no real attachments to 788 I have always loved the utilitarian looks of them. I bought one in 30-30 10 or 12 years ago because I had never saw one in 30-30 before. The same family I bought it from also had another in 44mag for very little money but I passed because I couldn't imagine why someone would want a rifle in 44mag let alone a bolt rifle. Now I own about 10 pistol cartridge rifles and one of them is a Ruger 77/44 bolt 44 mag and I would pay 4 times what they were asking then for that 788 in 44mag.

Wow I never knew the 788 came in those calibers. I don't have much to say about that gun because I've never actually handled one but I'm sure they're nice little rifles.

  9. I've turkey hunted in that general area a little bit. Lately the turkey population up there has been great from what I've seen. There are some thick spots but a lot of it is very accessible and with a little bit of time and work put in, I don't think you'd have any problem bagging a nice bird.

  10. Heres the only picture i could find of my wingmaster. I could just take a current pic of it but its getting late. Its the sixth one in starting from the left. It looks like at the time i had the slug barrel on it, although I've never shot slugs out of it. Every one of these guns means something to me and i could probably tell a story about each one. This picture is fairly old and only shows a portion of my collection and doesn't really show any of my rifles. I've added quite a few more since this was taken.

  11. I have many guns that mean a lot to me. Coming to mind right now is my full frame 20 gauge 870 wingmaster that my grandfather handed down to me when I turned 12. I have a skeet barrel, mod barrel, and a smoothbore slug barrel with it. Beautiful wood back when they made guns with really nice wood on them. I'll take a picture of it later on if I remember. Another one would be my 870 express that I deer hunt with. I got my first deer with it when I was 16.

Lol, just the guts, which imo makes the gun what it is. I love that I can buy junk trap ammo and never have a jam. All my shooting partners have an issue at some point, even the pumps jam on the real cheap stuff. I have prob put 3-4000 rounds through mine. I also leave without a sore shoulder...

I agree. I was running some really cheap federal target loads through mine and one of them actually had the brass come completely off of the shell when it was being ejected. I was surprised that it still cycled it and ejected both pieces. Wont be using that ammo again!

  13. Just got back from camp. I put about 25 rounds through my v3 and it shot flawlessly. I'm very impressed with it so far. Definitely the lightest and softest shooting auto loader I have in my collection. It patterned great with the mod choke. For those of you who have shot an 11-87, it handles and swings just like one, but lighter. d71e9bb0225e1528708f0245df0c213f.jpg

  14. Looks sweet. I have the versamax which I'm sure you know is basically the same gun with option of 3.5". Best autoloader I have ever shot. You will love your v3

Thanks! They are in some ways similar however the versa max and the v3 actually don't share any of the same parts. The only thing they really have in common is that they both use the "versa port" gas system. The versa maxes are awesome guns, I thought about getting one but I really wanted wood and I don't need another auto loader that shoots 3 1/2s.

  15. As some of you may know, around Christmas time I ordered a new Remington v3 walnut. I'm not a huge fan of synthetic guns so as soon as they came out with the v3 with walnut furniture I knew I had to get one.

My question is has anyone used one and have anything good or bad to say about the v3? I've heard some good things about it but would like to hear the opinions on here. I plan on using it for clays and maybe an occasional bird hunt.

    Thanks guys!

Edit - I'm going to bass pro to pick the gun up tonight after work then I'm headed for camp. I'll report back after I shoot it tomorrow. I'll post some pictures of it in here also if you guys want to see how it looks.
