i buy my bows second hand, left over, or demo from a shop they're off loading on the internet. gear is bought using coupons and credit card rewards (I never carry a balance). often I buy camo after the season when it's basically liquidated to make room for other stuff that's appropriate for the season that time of year. idk how much i've saved but it's often somewhere around 50% or more. i could easily buy more msrp expensive stuff then i do and at full price on top of that. blows my mind but then again there's a cheap and expensive version of everything this world produces.

my wife is a Disney travel agent and this really pissed her off. a good part of what she does is to basically save you money booking and use or tell you hacks to save money there. her services are free because if used Disney pays her commission but if not it's still rolled into the price so they just pocket extra.

i would drop it to the right and not back into all the crap. you run the risk of creating a widow maker and/or having the butt come back into the blind. i'd get my treestand steps or sticks with a harness and double lineman's belts. also get my 16' pole saw. trim all the smaller stuff off on the side over your blind that won't drop and wreck it. it'll add up to a lot of weight. then use the pole saw to reach out and take the bigger limb down in small sections. tie a rope or chain to the base just so it doesn't have room to shift toward the blind once it hits the ground. then i'd fell it in that direction to the right of the blind. if you're not comfortable doing any of it I wouldn't. if you are, might as well save some money. it could take me all week and it'd be like making $100 or more per day.

i think that's the reason we haven't got into canning yet: time. i look at it kinda of me getting into reloading. a lot of learning how to get prepped and setup compared to the actual process of putting stuff in jars. my grandparents and great grandparents canned crazy amounts of stuff. my grandfather had a whole setup and separate galley kitchen to do canning, so everything was in the right spot and things went smoothly. never learned how though.

if wayne county you're in a decent area to produce good bucks compared to some others here in NY. that said genetics for big antlers can be all over the place. he's pretty stout in the front and seems like he thins out a little in the back. waist line is tucked up higher. neck connects lower in the chest but not real low like 4.5 plus. respectable set of antlers but not what I'd consider big. I'd say he's 3.5 yrs old too. depending on what people typically take in the area and what's around if you can justify passing him at 4.5 he'll likely make a pretty good jump in antler size. if you're wanting to shoot him but trying harder to find reasons not to then go get him! send the teeth into a lab for cementum annuli analysis for around $20-30 and then you'll know how old he is. you could also post good pictures of the lower jaw and I can have a few people including myself look at it.

I've been busy and haven't even shot my bow. Had to pack up and winterize everything this weekend as theres snow in the forecast so still no stand time. Got some practice in though. First arrow of the season at a safe 20 yards into the block. Then first group of the season out at 40 yards. Wasn't expecting contact but no arrows busted and I'm ready to get in the stand.

i grew up with cube steaks, chops, roast, and hamburger meat with added deer fat. it was painful at the dinner table. idk how i didn't get turned off of hunting. my dad did things a certain way meant for beef and not deer. my mom cooked it but didn't eat it. couple years ago he pulled out this ancient broken commercial cuber from back when he had the store. it was all metal, stupidly heavy, and could probably cube a truck tire. i told him to just off load it. lol
if i have to cube a steak i f***ed up at processing, prepping, or cooking my deer. sure it can turn top or bottom round into steak but my wife likes those for other things that are delicious. anything I put into steak, even flat irons off the front shoulder, are cut with a fork or could be with a plastic butter knife.
i have fed my kids since they could gum venison so it's worked for me the way i do things. i've had a deer processed twice in my lifetime and both times the wife basically pitched a fit when she went to cook whatever cut it was that was "chops", "steak", "stew meat", or "hamburger" that didn't come out right and the kids refused to eat it.

don't have enclosed box blinds. only the pop up ones. could i suppose close up windows more in the front? she's got new coveralls this year. she'll be bundled.

you know this buck and the "wound" just showed up? day light pictures will help a lot for sure. typically yotes don't go for that spot even when bedded i think. they go for the hams as it's easier to latch on to. like @LET EM GROW said i'm thinking it's more like fibroma (deer warts). they can come and go. harmless to the deer in that spot.

we were shooting down into a massive chopped corn field in a valley. it's was ridiculous as i was shooting a 60gr vmax and he was sending a 285gr eldm. only rifle i had that could dial elevation. 22LR whole world apart than a 223/556.

pick and choose your battles. need lots of snacks, won't be very quiet or sit, and they get cold fast. I started taking my daughter at 2 yrs old and now my son out. to start, it's mild weather though to check trail cams and scout from a distance sitting in a tractor or truck. now at 8 yrs old my daughter can be with me in a blind hunting. still gets cold quick though. evening hunts too so you're not trying to get them up and out before daylight.

i'll add to what Phade said. not just terrain topo but habitat and what we call edges also play a big role influencing wind direction and thermals.

Wind affects where I hunt. Pressure affects when I hunt. I don't mean cherry picking a certain day when conditions are perfect. I can't do that but hunt when I can. If the wind is cranking I might ditch a stand with perfect wind for a marginal one that's protected from the wind where deer might be loitering more and not on edge. If low pressure is rolling in signally inclement weather I might hunt the whole day over a more open but higher energy food source to ensure I catch deer packing in food before riding things out. High pressure I'll cherry pick times only for a specific reason (patterned or spotted buck).

Must have to paint it and use high power scope or spotting scope? Otherwise you'd never know you hit it. I've shot further with a buddy. I had a 223 and he had a 338 lapua. Couldn't even tell I hit it except the splatter and faint knock sound. Sounds like fun.We shoot a 400 yard 3’ steel plate with 22lr. Drops like 20 feet lol

Not complete information here but I just might. I shoot NRA indoor precision pistol. 3 courses of fire slow, timed, and rapid. At my local rod and gun club on Thursdays after pistol some are breaking out the rifles. Not sure what people are bringing but it's informal so I'm sure I could shoot what I got.If you want to see how good you really are try shooting Sporter rifle it's only at 50ft. A perfect score is 300 have fun.

So as a follow up...
As of right now it's sighted in with Aguila Super Extra 40gr HV stuff that says 1255fps for MV on the box. I'm thinking this should be breaking down into subsonic somewhere around 30 yards with what i've got. Zero'd at 75 yards it was a 4" group but it was pretty windy on the mountain. constant of 10mph with gusts higher.
Might be a bit much but the setup is inevitably for my kids. It's a BCA upper with 16" heavy bbl, 1:16 twist (cheaper). Warne single piece mount with a 3-9x40mm duplex scope i had. right now it's sitting on my Springfield Armory Saint Victor lower.
I might walk it out from 25 yards and see if group clearly breaks down anywhere. Maybe change distance it's zero'd but 75 yards seems like a happy medium. at 25 or so it's well within an inch for POI.-

At 50, it was very easy to put a solid group together. I think as they slow down and start to lob in past 50, they move.
yea at the point where they reach subsonic i know bullets encounter stability issues. shooting Aguila super extra 40gr at 1255fps per the box. it a pretty nice setup. not any custom bolt action 22lr but nice. it was a bit breezy too despite i setup on the leeward side of the barn. just don't have much 22LR experience with anything other than a pistol at 20 or so yards and in. mostly indoors.
