Look up one night this weekend! Mars Is Ready For Its Close-Up: Red Planet Easy To Spot This Weekend http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/05/20/478865020/mars-is-ready-for-its-close-up-red-planet-easy-to-spot-this-weekend Sometimes astronomy can be challenging, but spotting Mars this weekend should be a breeze. Step 1: Head outside right after sunset and look toward the southeastern sky. Step 2: Find the full moon. (So far, so good, right?) Step 3: Look up and to the right, and find what looks like a bright red star. That's Mars, our planetary neighbor — getting up close and personal.

Aggressive, man-eating Nile crocodiles lived in the Everglades for years https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2016/05/20/aggressive-man-eating-nile-crocodiles-lived-in-the-everglades-for-years/ It’s a small problem, but invasive species almost always start out that way. Researchers at the University of Florida examined the DNA of three reptiles pulled out of the Everglades swamp and found that they were invasive Nile crocodiles, and that they were probably related. Here’s what worries scientists: Like other species humans have dumped in South Florida — Burmese pythons, Argentine tegus, Nile monitors, Cuban tree frogs — the Nile croc can thrive there. It’s the perfect environment. The crocs were caught between 2000 and 2014, and their diet and growth were studied. One escaped a zoo and survived for years, proving they can adapt, Kenneth Krysko, herpetology collections manager at the Florida Museum of Natural History on the university’s campus, said in a statement. And, he said, there are probably more.

http://vegasseven.com/2016/05/18/meet-bundy-familys-political-allies/ Meet the Bundy Family’s Political Allies It’s nothing new for politicians to hitch their wagons to celebrities: Reach out to George Clooney or Kim Davis and try to turn a few of their fans into your voters. Most do their best to not confuse the famous and the infamous, but that hasn’t stopped some Nevada officeholders from continuing to cuddle up to the Bundy family. Perhaps the Bundys’ most ardent supporter has been state Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, who got her first taste of sweet, sweet national airtime during the 2014 Bunkerville standoff. Fiore recently brushed off the numerous photos and videos of armed militants pointing guns at and/or threatening law enforcement. “Once you point your firearm at me, I’m sorry, then it becomes self-defense. Whether you’re a stranger, a bad guy or an officer,” she told a local radio show. Insisting that shooting an officer who might shoot you is within your Second Amendment rights is surely an idea armed criminals everywhere can really get behind. Fiore then backtracked—sorta—insisting that only Bureau of Land Management agents should be gunned down, not Metro cops. No word yet on where the FBI or state police rank on the shootability scale. Fiore is running for a Republican congressional seat—clearly a better position from which to help the Bundys. As she announced on Facebook, “My first congressional bill will be mandatory education to all jurors on jury nullification.” Jury nullification is when a jury basically declares that the law is just wrong: It’s about as common as snow on the Strip, but jury nullification is the legal holy grail for sovereign citizens. Fiore has repeatedly crossed state lines to lend support during and after the Malheur (Oregon) standoff. Her explanation: If any of her constituents is in trouble anywhere, “You betcha I’m gonna come getcha.” Of course, the Bundys don’t live in Fiore’s district so they’re technically not her constituents but, hey, the next time you get a speeding ticket in California, you know who to call for bail and a ride home. The Bundys aren’t residents of Assemblywoman Shelly Shelton’s district either, but she’s been standing with them since Bunkerville—hell, she even brought her newborn grandchild because it was really more like a family picnic than an armed standoff. They grilled burgers! Shelton doesn’t miss a Bundy rally or court date;her official Facebook page is largely dedicated to “LaVoy [Finicum] clearly had his hands up” and the Bundys are “political prisoners.” Shelton’s constituents, Glen Heather’s mid-century hipsters and the Ph.D.-carrying professionals of the Medical District, also undoubtedly appreciate her disparagement of “urban people” who, according to her, do not work or pay taxes like rural folk. Another assemblyman who seems to be focusing on the Republic of Bundystan is John Moore. He represents the 8th District, which is basically a bunch of industrial buildings and suburban homes in the southern part of the Valley. He has frequently declared at rallies and court dates that Malheur occupier Finicum was “murdered;” during a conference call hosted by Bundy supporters, he said of the shooting: “I haven’t often shed tears, but I will say I’ve shed more than one tear on seeing that.” (Apparently other police shootings are not so sad.) During this same call, another invited participant declared that any law enforcement officers who cause an issue for anti-BLM forces “will be met with hot fire.” The politicians may not quite be representing their constituents, but the folks they lionize aren’t exactly what they seem to be, either. Not quite noble patriots, those facing government charges included an assortment of unemployed musicians, bipolar potheads, deadbeat dads and guys who had fake military records but real police records. Not quite a rural farmer, Ammon Bundy owns a truck repair company—“centered in the heart of the Phoenix industrial area,” according to its website—that received about a half-million dollars in government (government!) loans, as well as a six-figure home in an Idaho suburb. Sometimes a cowboy hat is just a hat. Shelton and Moore both face re-election this year—and both won their last elections by less than 1 percent margins—while Fiore is battling six other candidates to be the Republican nominee for the 3rd Congressional District. Politicians’ tough talk may comfort those locked up for their actions at Bunkerville and Malheur, but it probably doesn’t do too much for the nature lovers living near Lone Mountain or the gated communities on Greenery View Lane. Come November, all three may find themselves losing to candidates who worry about schools and stoplights rather than Admiralty courts and the enclave clause.

Harney County Votes For Candidates Opposed To Armed Occupation http://www.opb.org/news/series/election-2016/harney-county-vote-armed-occupation-opposition/ Harney County citizens voted decisively in this week’s primary for candidates who opposed the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Harney County had more candidates on the ballot than in any primary election in recent history. In discussions about federal lands, some candidates echoed the rhetoric of Ammon Bundy and other occupation leaders. But voters were clear they preferred candidates who opposed the occupation. For the county judge seat, vacated by retiring Steve Grasty, current county commissioner Pete Runnels got 53 percent of the vote. That means he’ll take office without a November runoff. For the county commissioner race, two candidates who also opposed the occupation will face off in November: political newcomer Mark Owens, who works in the hay and farming industries, and incumbent Dan Nichols, who decided to run at the last minute because he felt Harney County needed consistency in leadership after the occupation. Harney County had the highest voter participation in the state, with 72 percent of eligible voters submitting ballots.

This article sheds light on how long the federal land dispute out west has been going on as well as other points about the BLM issue.

well, most studies haven't been comprehensive but the general feeling is that they are cleaner and will get cleaner every day even if you keep the same electric car. These anti-electric car studies are silly. (And very important.)http://www.treehugger.com/cars/these-anti-electric-car-studies-are-silly-and-very-important.html Koch Brothers To Spend Millions Spewing Anti-Electric Vehicle Propaganda: Reporthttp://jalopnik.com/koch-brothers-to-spend-millions-spewing-anti-electric-v-1760127883 The Kochs Are Plotting A Multimillion-Dollar Assault On Electric Vehicleshttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/koch-electric-vehicles_us_56c4d63ce4b0b40245c8cbf6 Big oil declares war on the electric carhttp://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/motors/big-oil-declares-war-on-the-electric-car-1.2574257 Even if the electric car is equal to gas cars in the total polution cause in its life time, that number will continue to improve at a greater rate than gas cars. Why Tesla’s Model 3 Could Be the New Model T

Years away for sure but still cool. I remember when I was talking to a family friend when i was in my early teens. He was telling me about his adventures with Patton in WWII and I was struck by how fast transportation technology had come. Pete was born a decade or so after Kitty Hawk but got to see the moon landing and everything in between. In our own way these changes are happening, some see them with amazement others with trepidation, but none of us can stop it. -

LOL! invest in duracell! Perhaps instead of seeing more people put out of work decades from now by technology being developed now. We could focus on how eliminating human error we can make our already overcrowded roads safer and faster. 1) Ha! Breitbart 2) Do I really need to post 100 other examples of labor law avoidance by other companies? The future is coming, accept it. -

So I went to Taconic SP for a weekend of camping Friday, Saturday Sunday and Monday and for some turkey hunting. Scouted New Forge all day Friday in the rain and Hunted it Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning and saw NOTHING. Sunday when leaving the park i saw at least 6 Jakes in the bend of the road not 1000 feet from the New Forge southern parking lot. Arrrrrgh!! Came back Monday morning with a vengeance but saw not a bird, What a wet cold windy weekend. Hopefully next weekend will be different.

I'm sure it's true since controversies over Presidential Libraries have often happened before (http://www.chicagotribune.com/ct-obama-library-land-met-0210-20150210-story.html), or didn't you know that? Perhaps what made you notice this particular presidential library controversy is that President Blackie personally ordered those veterans out of their place. The heartless bastard! But back to the Militia news as I see it... https://www.buzzfeed.com/salvadorhernandez/armed-militia-standoff-in-oregon-drives-sympathizers-to-run?utm_term=.cvE9rwV9Z#.cqkYle1YJ I'd say the way to really effect change but there is so much money in politics... https://www.news-journal.com/news/2016/may/13/foster-oregon-occupiers-mess-raises-questions-abou/ http://www.vice.com/video/inside-the-michigan-militia BTW, PT all of these false equivalencies you post just make you seem more desperate.

Study Casts Doubt on Theory That Legal Hunting Reduces Poaching Government wildlife authorities and some conservation groups have for years argued that allowing some legal hunting can help reduce the illegal killing of threatened carnivores like wolves and grizzly bears. Their theory — though there has been little scientific research to support it — has been that legalizing hunting helps reduce resentment among landowners, increase support for conservation and decrease poaching. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/11/science/legal-hunting-poaching-wolves.html?_r=0

Meanwhile the ranchers Bundy tried to save from the horrible United States Federal Gov't tell a different dtory... Malheur Refuge standoff: The ranchers’ story BURNS, Ore. (KOIN) — The standoff at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge captivated the nation for 41 days and 40 nights. De facto militia leader Ammon Bundy staged the armed occupation under the notion of representing the disenfranchised people of Harney County. But is it true? Do the people of Burns feel the United States government is ruling with an iron fist? Gary Marshall, a 7th-generation rancher in Harney County, told KOIN 6 News the militia never spoke for him or for anyone else he can think of that owns property in Burns. “It was not true. [The militia] were just wrong,” said Marshall, “When they came they didn’t understand the situation here.” http://koin.com/2016/05/06/malheur-refuge-standoff-the-ranchers-story/

Another peaceful protester who is being framed by the awful United States Federal Gov't... 'Embedded' reporter tied to militia arrested in John Day on weapons charges JOHN DAY – Michael R. Emry, a former weapons manufacturer who was an "embedded" reporter with the militia during the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, was arrested Friday in John Day on federal weapons charges. Emry, 54, recently moved to John Day from Boise, Idaho. He was arrested at the county-owned RV park, part of the fairgrounds situated three blocks north of downtown John Day. FBI agents searching his trailer and vehicles found a fully automatic .50-caliber machine gun – a Browning M2 -- under the bed in the trailer. Law enforcement sources also said agents found explosives. http://www.oregonlive.com/oregon-standoff/2016/05/militia-tied_embedded_reporter.html
