Musings on Christmas Eve. I don't suppose any single Christmas memory defines Christmas for me although some are certainly more powerful and evocative. The expectation of all my cousins arriving for the day, anticipation of each aunt's specialty dish. The apparent chaos of the kitchen, back then filled with aunts to today just as likely aunts and uncles or just uncles! I am quiet sure that when I was a child I thought it was magic but as a teenager I recognized it as pure pandemonium, and from that delicious meals came forth. My cousin a chef knows the mysteries of the kitchen and while he would say it's hard work I would add it is also magical. Food was and is the centerpiece of an Italian Christmas, sure it doesn't have the weight it once did, the table isn't as large the meals perhaps less traditional and the waistline more cautiously watched but the table, yes the table, with all the voices the laughing the shouting and the tears of joy is what I miss most. Grandma would say that at the table with family and friends you don't grow old. I agree with a full heart but the struggle to keep us all at the table has become harder. My evolution at the table once of course I had moved on from the “kids” table was first careful observer, then occasional fact shouter, budding nut job, and with full nut job took my rightful place at the dinner table. I had long ago come the the realization that if you can't ID the wacko at the dinner table then you're it. With all our differences we came together at the table, broke bread, and enjoyed each others company. That perhaps is my best Christmas' memory. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

All summer long I would see a flock near the Stargazer sculpture (southern end of Otis Pike) each morning driving east to work. I know from working the east end there is no shortage of turkeys, some even becoming a nuisance in the towns.

I use it on all my hunting clothes and on my hiking/walking clothes here on Long Islands east end and I've gotten pretty close to deer and they haven't seemed spooked. However i do believe on Long Island scent is less important.

Rumour is they have footage of a New York State cougar! The two-part mini-series “The Story of Cats” premieres November 2 & 9, 2016 at 8 p.m. (ET) on PBS (check local listings). Cats are among the most feared and revered creatures on the planet. Their power, strength, and enigmatic nature have fascinated us for centuries. They’ve dominated human culture since the dawn of civilization. Go from the rainforests, to the savannah, to the mountain peaks all the way into the comfort of our homes. Get an in-depth look at this unique species and the evolutionary tricks and adaptations that truly make a cat, a cat. Part 1: Asia to Africa In the first episode, we discover how the first cats arose in the forests of Asia, how they spread across the continent, and later came to conquer Africa. We reveal how they evolved flexible limbs to climb, giant bodies to survive in the cold, and super senses to catch prey. Ultimately we discover how becoming social made the lion, king of the savannah. Also featured in this episode are other larger cats such as the clouded, snow and African leopards, the Bengal and Siberian tigers, and the cheetah. However, the introductions of smaller and lesser-known species like the serval, the caracal, and the fishing, Pallas’s and sand cats are just as fascinating. Part 2: Into the Americas In this conclusion, we discover how cats first crossed from Asia into North America and how they went on to become the top predators of the continent. Today there are 13 feline species in the Americas – from the mighty jaguar, to the urban mountain lion, to the curious ocelot and from the Canada lynx to the nimble margay. The story of how all these cats came to be is an epic tapestry of pioneering spirit, powerful natural forces, and a battle for supremacy with their age-old rivals, the Canids. Then a few brave wildcats moved into our villages in pursuit of the hungry mice that followed the farmers’ grain. There are now more than 40 different breeds of domestic cat – from the exotic Siamese cat to the hairless Sphynx – who are still evolving. “The Story of Cats” continues.

White defendants, white jurors: Outcry over race in verdict's wake http://www.oregonlive.com/oregon-standoff/2016/10/white_defendants_white_jurors.html That an all-white jury would acquit an all-white band of armed protesters of all wrongdoing in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge standoff riled people across America, many of whom pointed to counter-examples that they say prove a similar band of blacks or Latinos would never have been cleared. The scenes of white Malheur refuge occupiers walking free on the same day that police and National Guard officers used mace and batons to arrest and drive away unarmed Native Americans protesting an oil pipeline at the Standing Rock Sioux reservation raised particular ire. The acquittals also follow police action against a diverse group of protesters in Portland who opposed a recently approved police union contract.

‘It will be a bloodbath’: Inside the Kansas militia plot to ignite a religious war https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/10/15/it-will-be-a-bloodbath-inside-the-kansas-militia-plot-to-ignite-a-religious-war/?utm_term=.307eb5f9f64a Home grown terrorism, the price of losing our ideals is becoming what we hate most.

oooooooh look Chicago!, if i had a nickle foe every idiot that said that I'd be Trump. Oooh look at Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Illinois. Rhode Island. Maryland, Hawaii, New York, Massachusetts. New Jersey and California. All of which have passed tougher gun laws and saw dramatic drop in gun deaths. Notice that Illinois (the state with Chicago in it) also saw a statewide drop in gun deaths. FACTS LJC not stupid internet memes repeated ad naseum

What if the D.E.C. issued as a new set of regulations as to what type of ammo be used in hunting what animal and at what velocity (many forget it's the high velocity rifles that have ammo splinter and travel far from the wound area) for all state owned land, it may also be valid for private land as other hunting laws are in play on private land also. I'm just wondering how hateful an idea this is.

Snow or no snow I've been using a plastic kids tub style sled about 4 ft long, maybe 8 - 12 bucks. I've not been a lucky hunter but it's worked fine the few times I have used it. opps just saw Ants post - Ditto!
