  1. I live and hunt the the southern part of northern teir, about 5 miles from the line. For all intents and purposes the conditions seem very similar to the southern zone. (Lots of ag fields with pockets if bigger woods here and there) I think for the area, firearm season is way to long. October 14-December 3...51 days. That is a long stretch for deer to evade hunters and not slip up. I wouldn't mind seeing the NZ season brought in line with the SZ.
  2. Mossy Oak Gamekeepers because it's a little more educational and Relentless Pursuit because Tim Wells is just a savage.
  3. Thanks guys. I was just looking for something a bit different. I was actually just going to cut the antlers off but a friend talked me into keeping it whole.
  4. Nice I like the barbed wire. Did you just eyeball your cuts along the back side of the eye sockets more or less?
  5. Was that a kit or did someone do it for you?
  6. Yeah I've seen them. Pretty neat looking. Not lookin to spend much (any) money on this one.
  7. I've done a few Euro mounts myself and they came out pretty good. Just looking for something different. Anyone ever done a Euro that gets cut flat? Is there a special name? Just wondering where you'd start your cuts and such
  8. Just got an email from Parker Bows urging me to do the same thing, (Thank Cuomo, Silver, Skelos and Klein)...I think I'd give up a nut before I thanked any one of those A holes.
  9. Anybody know if this applies to components or just loaded ammo?
  10. Ratings were probably slipping...wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing was a publicity stunt. Worked too.
  11. Yeah the first couple times we tried posing them then one time we had them circling back and landing so quickly we kind of realised it didn't matter...like breeth said they're not that smart lol
  12. We shot them in the hay mow with BB guns for obvious reasons lol. They are like anything else some die easy some die hard
  13. We used to shoot them on the farm when we were kids. Never bothered with decoys at all. Used to walk out back shoot 3 or 4 and thr flock would disperse...then we would just leave the dead ones where they dropped and wait. Decoys are nice but nothing like the real thing. 5 or 10 minutes later the flock would come back and we'd open up again....
  14. I've been tinkering with the idea of doing something like this for the past couple years. The only problem I have is that I'm cheap and don't want to pay per month for the wireless card. I've been looking to build a long range WiFi antenna from an old satellite dish attached to a WiFi repeater. PM me if you want and maybe we can bounce some ideas off each other

    The Luck

I get sent out of town for work a handful of times during the year, maybe 5 tops. Monday my boss tells me I have to go to Plattsburgh on Tuesday...start the job Tuesday, spend the night and finish today. I get a call from my uncle at 6:30 this morning and this is how it goes Uncle: What are you doing? Me: Nothing up in Plattsburgh working, why? Uncle: You know that big 9 point you've been hunting? Me: Yeah? Uncle: I just shot him. Me: Ha Ha you d**k. Where did you get him? Uncle: No, I'm just kidding. I saw him though. I could have shot him. Me: Where did you see him? Uncle: Tailing a doe, came across the road, crossed your driveway then went and crossed the big lot behind your house. He was trying to cross the other road (to the farm next door) but I drove down and got him and the doe turned around...they stood there 10 yards off the road looking at me before they turned around and walked under your treestand. They joys of working out of town during hunting season lol
  17. Never had problems with the Grim Reapers. A buddy of mine used to shoot Rages before switching to Swackers which he swears by. Might be in my head but I like the idea of having 3 cutting surfaces instead of 2.
  18. How high do you usually go? I feel like since the tree can't have any branches I would want to be pretty high up to avoid sticking out like a sore pecker. Do you use anything to brush yourself in?
  19. I had a climbing tree stand about 8 or 10 years ago and wasn't to comfortable using it so it got put up in a tree and used like a hang on. I find myself thinking about purchasing another more and more frequently now adays. Anyone have success using one? It kind of seems like a pain having to find a perfect tree to fit the bill but I like the idea of being more mobile I guess. My thoughts would be to pick a few spots while scouting and find 3 or 4 different trees at each spot to suit different wind directions? Any feedback on others experiences would be appreciated.
  20. " I want to shoot monsters" "Screw you, I want to protect my right to shoot babies" "Well I just want to do what's right for the herd" "Screw it, I guess the DEC will decide and we'll all have to live with it" I think that about sums it up lol.
  21. Let me preface this by saying that I have limited experience hunting outside my WMU...That being said, does anyone hunt or read the harvest reports for the WMUs that have very low deer populations? If so, are the bucks that do get taken in these areas typically older deer that have less than 3 points on a side or younger spikes, crotch horns, ect.
  22. No, I am not trying to be argumentative. The main purpose of antler restrictions is to reduce the number of yearling and1.5 year old bucks taken. So you let that crotch go and next year he's a 2.5 year old 8 that would be legal under the AR's. Would you classify that 2.5 year old buck as older or younger? In my opinion its a win win. You get your younger deer and the "he-men" get a decent rack.
