  1. I went last year and it was just dead. None of the trenches/holes were holding anything. Shore shelves were also kind of dead. It was just a bad weekend for us. I DID, however, catch this bad boy while sitting around a camp fire drinking at around 11pm. Dragged my pole about 20 ft into the water before I could catch it. If you are fishing from shore (north side of state park), it stays kinda shallow for about 20 ft, then drops off. Try to cast out past 20'.
  2. Also never received an answer to PM. Was ready to order/promote as well!
  3. I ordered 2 books from Tandy a couple days ago. Would still love some hands-on though. It just seems like a really cool skill to have!
  4. Does anyone here have any experience with leatherworking? I'm not really talking about tanning, but working with cured leather. I have been researching for a while and would really like to start with small projects. Knife Sheaths, belts, maybe a rifle scabbard. I'm really a "learn by watching/doing" kind of guy, and would love nothing more than to physically get together with someone with experience and sit down for a couple hours and work a small project. Other than online, I wouldnt even know the first place to obtain leather to work with. I've researched tools and such, but it is actually an overload of information. Anyone?
  5. I don't usually make any type of political posts at all, but I needed to say something. As I was walking by the break room at work, I noticed Hillary on the television. I didn't hear a word that was said, and only say the tagline running across the screen. "Hillary Clinton calls for Justice Reform" OK... Hillary Clinton, who just got away with treason because "She Didn't Know" she was breaking the law mishandling classified information, is calling for Justice Reform? Anyone else find this to be completely ridiculous? I spent many years in the military handling top secret material. You can't even imagine the penalty if I, even as a 19 yr old soldier, "mishandled" classified material. I really have no words, and I truly weep for the future of this country.

    SIlver Lake

Thinking of fishing Silver Lake this weekend, weather depending. Never been. Any color/style tips? Heard it was good for Pike and LM Bass. Any insight would be appreciated.
  7. Also interested! Looking for a variety of styles in watermelon and motor oil/crawdad. Also want to know about attractants or salt.
  8. You would choose the McMillan platform over the Accuracy International? Granted, I would give my left eye for either (need the right to aim!), but I'm curious as to why you chose that way. Either way, I applaud your choice! That's what my wife calls a "Boner Gun."
  9. Oh the Vulcan... (gau-4) They ran them at Drum all the time. The ones there hadnt been switched to the 30mm. Same thing though. That burp is pure shivers. The trenches they left were truly something to see!
  10. Dream rifle? Accuracy International AX338. Love my rem 700 .308, but the AI is just on a whole different level. Like over 10x the level/price lol.
  11. "Mosquitos so big they could f$@# a turkey flat-footed" (description of Ft. Polk right before a JRTC deployment made by the CO of a Scout company)
  12. Shawn; I just received your package yesterday, and thank you. I have had some issues with mail since we are not currently living at that address, but they seem to be worked out. I really am grateful for the lighting system. It is a great step forward in getting back out there. Thank you so much! To all: We had an ...interesting Christmas. We do not have any family in the state, so it was just my wife and two children. (My oldest was home from college) It was actually kind of cool. We were 1 day into our apartment, no furniture or food yet. My wife bought a little Charlie Brown tree and we sat around it indian style passing out the presents we had rescued, as well as another package from a member here (Thank you!). We went to Denny's for food, then just hung out together playing cards. Very simple, very satisfying and very therapeutic. Thank you all for your support. It is appreciated by the whole family. Joshua
  13. You all really do have my gratitude. Update for those who are interested: We may have secured a sub-leased apartment for a couple months, so we hopefully can get out of this hotel. We met with the adjusters and the advocates today, and it looks like our house is definitely out of commission for at least 6 months. Most items inside are able to be cleaned with the exception of anything fabric (beds, couches, carpet...etc). Insurance looks like it is covering everything house-wise, which is fantastic. Still working with Geico regarding the boat, car and truck. Definitely going to take big hits on those, but we'll manage. Ins. gave us an advance on living expenses today, so that covered most of our lost work and some of the food/cost of living expenses. We are keeping positive attitudes, and making the best of things. I give some credit for our mental well being to people like you guys. Your comments and support really do mean a lot to us. So, for me and my wife, Thank You. Joshua

  15. I had someone tell me today that they wouldn't be able to accept charity in my position, and implied that do so so would be greedy... Allow me to rant for a moment as I am super pissed-off and I need to get this out before I punch someone. My family just had a huge fire at our home Thursday morning, as most of you know. NO ONE WAS INJURED! I am not forgetting that fact for a second, trust me. Our garage is gone, along with everything in it. That's 20+ years of accumulated "stuff." Both of our vehicles are total losses, burned to a crisp. Our boat (which I worked my ass off for and just brought home this last spring) is also ashes and melted metal. The house also caught fire, and while there is contained fire damage, the fire got into our roof and filled the house with smoke. Keep in mind that this is a chemical smoke from all the contents that burned, not your average campfire smoke. The walls, furniture, carpet, clothes and contents are mostly a total loss. The truck was loaded with my hunting supplies for a next day hunt I was planning, and the boat/garage had over 20 years of accumulated fishing gear locked down for the winter. Needless to say, the house is unlivable for the unknown future. We are currently living in a hotel. Yes, these are material things. Yes, it's only money and "stuff." Yes, we have our relative health and it could have been so much worse. Yes, others have gone through much worse than we ever could imagine. Yes, these are 1st world problems. Now to my point: Charity has ZERO to do with any of the above things. Charity is the people that care, doing what they can to show love and support: Friendship and just an overall caring for a fellow human. Charity is a gift that is not chosen by the people it is meant for. Charity in this situation is actually pure, with honest and honorable intent. People aren't helping us for personal gain, gratitude or recognition. The only possible way I can honestly show gratitude is to graciously accept and pay it forward in whatever way we can. That's what a "Community" does. So to those who claim they would not accept charity, and who look down their noses at us for accepting it; you can have my middle finger and my mental image of a foot shoved up your selfish ass. I need to feed my family for the next few months. And if you think that we are going to come out ahead financially after the insurance and construction are done, you need to stop using common core math. On that note: https://www.gofundme.com/ocampofamily - Share it with everyone you know and ask them to share it as well. /end rant
