  1. I hunt mostly with my son either in Northern New York or Central New York. If I am not hunting with him I will be hunting with my brother inlaw's in the Albany NY area.
  2. I think the most exciting moment deer hunting outside of getting my first buck was when my son got his first one. I hope my next exciting moment will be when my grandson gets his first deer, but I will have to wait a few years until he can go deer hunting.
  3. Hello my name is Jim W. I was introduced to this site by my son jimbodwb. This looks like a very good site to be on. I have been on other sites and but this one seems to be alot better. On the topic of Balze Orange to wear or not to wear. You can go back and forth forever but everyone has his or hers own opinion. If you want to wear orange wear it, if you don't, don't. Either way when you walk into the woods to hunt, trap, hike, or ride a bike anything can happen. you can trip, fall and injure or shoot yourself, you can be shot by someone else, you can fall while climbing a tree, you can be attacked by an animal. As I said anything can happen. Be as careful as you can. I have a;ready made a few post about blaze orange, antler restrictions & cross bows. I enjoy everyone's opinion and hope the enjoy mine.
  4. If I forgot to say it Congratulations. I was long overdue. I drag out was hard. but getting it up into the back of the truck I think was worse. Dad
  5. I wear an orange vest when I am walking into and out of my blind. When I get to my blind I take the orange vest and hat and put them on branches near my blind. I do this even when I am hunting on public or private property. It just makes sense. I have had people walk towards my blind and say they never saw the vest or hat hanging there. Must be blind.
  6. I recently heard that the legislature passed a bill to make crossbow hunting legal to everyone in New York State. Doe anyone know anything about this? If so let us know how to find out about it.
  7. I have been hunting for many years and have probably passed up more spikes or 3 to 4 points than all the deer some of you have seen. I agree somewhat that a spike this year could possibly be a good 4 pointer next year but it all has to do with genetics and food source. A spike with the proper food will develop into a decent 4 pointer next year. A spike with good genetics and food will develop into a very good 4 to 6 pointer the next year and a spectacular 8 to 10 point in about 2.5 to 3 years. So antler restrictions is only 1 key to bigger and better deer.
