  1. Doc, I believe it covers this a little in the frequently asked questions of the syllabus. It says there is no certain amount you have to be as long as its beyond guardrail, fence, or mowed section because it is considered the maintain part of the highway.
  2. As long as you are across a guard rail, fence or beyond the mowed section of the road. Thats where the wardens around here get ya.
  3. I believe they still have land up this way which is about 2.5hrs north of cortland
  4. But its not trespassing if you are spotlighting.
  5. I see nothing wrong with spotlighting and if you were to follow me around and take my plate number I would notify the law for harassment!!!!!
  6. AWWW TOO BAD JETS. I am a STEELERS FAN. Jets already beat them once and now Pats beat them.
  7. During the spring and summer I did notice more pups than usual. This fall I trapped more fox than ever. I have also noticed more small game in my area. Could this be a factor?
  8. Ultramag, while there are bad apples in the hound hunting fraternity, not all are or tresspass. Hound hunters should not be labled as such. There are bad aplles in every sport. Calling, deer hunting, trapping. From last years syllabus While it may be lawful for a dog to pursue game on land that may be posted, it is not lawful for a hunter to knowingly release a dog on posted property. As long as a dog is being used to hunt small game species during an open season it is not considered at large. The use of tracking devices is allowed to be under control.
  9. And with a tracking collar on a dog now it is under the control. A dog owner can not be ticketed for his dogs going onto posted land unless they are turned loose on it. Last years game book summed this all up real well.
  10. Doc, I do not know where I heard it or if it was a theory or what, but somewhere I read that 75% of the population would have to be taken every year to maintain population. Have you heard this before?
  11. It does happen, but unfortunately it is hard to stop a dog in the middle of a chase. That is why ny has a "dogs can tresspass law". It is when we as hunters go on posted land after them that gives the bad name.
  12. I love running them with the hounds. There are some land owners and farmers that have no problem with me hunting them. But there are alot more that have an absolute problem with it. This is only a fraction of why coyotes are here to stay. The ability to pursue them without harassment.
  13. Many organizations have pelt donations set up. The money goes to education, fellow sportsmen in need and legislation.
  14. Why waist the fur if you are not going to do anything with it?
  15. I have run them with the hounds for eight hours and only get a glimpse. They know how to be evasive.
  16. Coyotes are here to stay. And they are growing in numbers rapidly. Year around season will not change things.
  17. I here ya Martin. I have been working 14hr shifts starting at 4am. I get up at 2am to run my trap line. I think alot of trappers just stay out of the spotlight so they are not seen or heard. If you check out ny trappers proboard, you will find a numerous group of trappers in NY. Good chatting with ya.
  18. Mr. Martin, there are more trappers than you realize. We are not well recognized as other forms of sportsmen.
