I posted this on FB last night....Seriously, I’m not into drama. Someone mentioned me being an essential worker, and after thinking about it, I’m going to consider myself one. What‘s the difference between me and a store employee? Nothing....we’re both supplying food. I’m open for business.

A bear has a stronger scent, but surprisingly their scent washes away quicker in the rain.

Our tracking season cannot start until October 6. I spent a couple weeks hunting in Idaho and I’ve have to quarantine for two weeks upon returning. The Health Department had screeners as I got off the plane in Syracuse, and they now text me every day. I’ve had to turn down three bear tracks so far and it’s killing me! Since the state issues my tracking license, I’m not taking any chances and will wait this out.

Well, no elk, but enough memories to last a lifetime with USCG vet buddies. One of the guys had a clean miss on a 6x6, but that was the only shot we had. 13 days of up and down the mountains has certainly prepared me for tracking season! It would have been nice to shoot an elk, but I can honestly say the hunt was still a success. We had to deal with smoke from fires nearly the entire time which was unfortunate at far as glassing went. Grizzly sign was everywhere, but we only saw one. This nearly 65 year old man didn’t slow these late thirty and early 40 year olds down a bit.

Both blinds are finished now and cut lanes for one of them today. Cutting lanes for the second one on Saturday.

Brassicas in some of it, winter rye and clover in some.

Got 1 blind finished today except for windows and got the base up for the second one. . If you look closely at the plot pic, you can see the blind tucked in the trees.

They do have an any weapon season in which you can use a crossbow. Unfortunately, that’s not during the rut. I’m very anxious to experience bulls bugling!

Pups are staying here and preparing mentally for tracking season. I will not shoot beyond 40 yards....if it’s meant to be, it’ll happen.

They’re going to be wondering where I am, that’s for sure. Bear season will be open when I get back, then northern bow opens 5 days later!

6 seasons ago I lost a buck I shot with my bow. I took the next day off from work and spent 9 fruitless hours searching. I tried to find a tracking dog in the area, but there were none. I was so disgusted with myself I sold my bow and gave up bowhunting. I got licensed and bought a tracking dog. I now have two and have been successful at helping other hunters find their game. A friend invited me to go to Idaho on an otc public land elk hunt this September. Hunting out west has been on my buck list, and at almost 65 years of age, I thought if I don’t do it now, I never will. I bought a bow months ago and have been practicing daily, and I feel very good about how things have progressed. Sept 6 we fly out for two solid weeks of camping and hunting the Rockies. I’m pumped!

Something else that works good is to broadcast winter rye into the beans as the leaves yellow. Works great!

The only one I have is on OnX and I don’t want to publish neighbors names. The “ridges” may be misnamed, they’re only about 5’ higher than the swamp. The deer definitely relate to both of them though.
