  1. Im curious to see what factors you think are most important for stand site selection. Rank these factors that make up your decision. For information/conversation sake...please dont simply answer "all of them"...add a little insight into your answers... *not in order -food sources -cover -trail cam pictures -physical sign (tracks, rubs, scrapes) -funnels/pinch points
  2. check with your local county government website. for example, i live in orange county ny. i can look on the website using several tools to find out about property...for example. i can type in a name or address and find out about exact acreage, ownership, purchase price, and property lines. its usually a good start for getting contact for permission!!!
  3. A question to you guys starting to use drag lines...will you be using regular Doe p or will you start using the estrous scents like tinks estrous?
  4. something does not add up...if you are shooting from 15-18 yds and i can still see the "arc" of the arrow flight then your arrows are moving entirely to slow. im not saying that you need a 60-70lb bow...but your arrow needs to reach the deer on a straight line to at least 25 yds...
  5. lets use this thread for a reminder to everyone who will be making that first walk into the woods this saturday! hopefully all your gear is tuned and shooting straight, clothes are bagged in leaves, stands are hung, and all other gear is in order. post reminders to everyone else for the night before or that morning!!! -Dont forget your release and hoist rope! -when you get into your stand...be sure to brush off any leaves on the platform. (i noticed when i checked my stands last weekend when i stood up i heard "crunch crunch" if i had done that opening morning with a deer in front of me he would have heard it and pinned me in a second!) -dont forget the key to the gate/lock at your property/trail -dont forget TP if you are doing an all day sit!! what else do we need to remember??? good luck on saturday and BE SAFE!
  6. we all know that bowhunting is a life long process and we should learn at least one new thing every time we step into the woods...but what is ONE thing you learned last season(mistake/observation/tactic etc...) that you will follow this season? for me...it's not to burn out a stand location!!! at the beginning of last season i had a bunch of great bucks on trail cam and plenty of sign around. i sat in one stand for morning and evening hunts for several days in a row...i went from seeing a few deer opening weekend to not seeing any thing after that yet i continued to sit in the same stand. this year i have several stand on different areas of my property and differnt properties all together. i will try to set a goal to not sit in the same stand location during the same day... what will you do differently this season??? ***runner up*** when i am ready to pack it in...STAY FOR 20 MORE MINUTES...i climed out of my stand twice last year and jumped 2 bucks that would have walked up to me!!!
  7. i have been thinking about trying mock scrapes this year. i have been researching different methods but im still not clear. this is what i have so far... -make a mock scrape near existing deer sign(real scrapes/rubs) -clear the ground with rubber boots or stick -make scrape under licking branch(this is the part i dont get) -use buck urine in scrape and freshen frequently what exactly do you do with the licking branch? do you put scent on it? do you break it with your hand? any other tips? thanks guys
