Upstate Redneck- 2nd to last deer has an antler on the left side- its just in the process of shedding velvet. Just a spike though.

Oops- I meant September. i guess in my excitement I got a little lost in time

No- I actually have 6 of these cameras, but the 1st one I put out in July with AA Lithium batteries still reads full and has taken thousands of pictures and several hours of video.

I just used Windows Movie maker and you can burn it to a DVD. You can add titles and subtitles too

Do it, you'll love it.

Here are some clips from a camera I haven't checked since the 1st week of November. Some unique looking bucks there- especially a really tall, but extremely narrow 9pt that has velvet hanging from his antlers. There is also a series of clips towards the end with not only bucks in the foreground but also a buck in the background making a scrape and raking his antlers in the trees.

The magic of an artificial licking branch

As far as branch species- I pick ones they browse normally - maple, apple, etc. I don't know that species is as important as location and height. (Travel corridor and a little below shoulder height on me @6ft tall) -

so far so good, but a lot can still happen -
Their numbers are growing fast. I now see more moose and moose sign than deer.

Planted are oats and austrian winter peas, although I have seen no sign of the peas. -

Me too. I did pee under the branch about 2 weeks before they started scraping. The scraping video was from 9/18/10. I have hung branches in the past and done nothing and had them start scraping on their own. There seems to be something about a convenient overhanging branch in a conspicuos place that makes it automatic for them. -

More pics from my brother of moose in the Adirondacks. 3 obviously different bulls and a cow/calf pair. Maybe in my lifetime we'll be able to hunt them?

Here is video of my newest foodplot- created specifically for this tall 8pt. I have read in the past about wiring branches to trees for licking branches to intsigate a buck to make a scrape. I used a soft maple branch here. I actually prefer to bend over 2-3 inch saplings for "living" licking branches. Have to say- works like a charm.

Here are some other bucks from CT. A nice 9, not much mass and a hole in his left MB. The rest are a sorry looking lot. Not sure why they have so few pts. I shot a nice 10 on this farm in 2005 and have seen some really nice bucks, but this group sure is lacking pts department. There's at least 3 bucks over 3yrs with less than 8 pts.

Oh yeah- its a classic funnel. Works like a charm

Here is a series of pics at a passageway in an old stonewall. Pic 1 is a bobcat. Notice the doe pic is 1 minute later. She appears a little agitated. The smaller racked buck is actually 4, -he's not particularly impressive, but you can see the difference in body size and type when compared to the younger, nicer racked buck. I passed on the older buck the past 2 yrs and had him at 70yds friday night, but didn't come close enough. There are tons and tons of acorns this year.

This is a compilation of red fox activity in one of my food plots. There is a clip of me urinating in a scrape, which seems unecessary at first, but sets the stage for the next clip. This is intended for mature audiences only. Some images may include graphic scenes as well as hilarious antics. Viewer discretion is advised.

Abruno- there is no doubt that the 9pt is over 140. (buck's ears are 7-7.5", I used them to "measure him") Its hard to judge main beam length- I guessed 23 because they come all the way around- and I used average 4" mass all the way through- trying to stay on the conservative side. He could really surprise you though. Regardless- he's fully mature and ripe for the picking. Only one sure way to find out...

You guys need to look at more deer. That 9pt is 140+. 125+/- without inside spread maybe. That deer is a big, mature stud. Good luck.

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
sampotter replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I went hunting with a group of the aforementioned idiots ONCE, never again. Bullets flying everywhere, shooting at deer silhouetted against houses. SAFETY is one good selling point of ARs. I want ARs for the same reason other people want them, but you can't argue that safety is important. But- if you are happy with your spikes and forkhorns and believe you can never do better, have at it. I'm happy with MATURE bucks, not SCORES. Does taste better than any buck anyhow.- 1885 replies

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
sampotter replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
The situations in PA where hunters shoot a buck and then leave it because it is too small is against the law. My support of ARs is because it causes hunters to positively ID their target before pulling the trigger. Idiots that shoot brown movement don't deserve to be in the woods or own a gun. They're just plain dangerous to themselves and anyone else. If you had to verify that a buck met a certain criteria you also subconciously ID'd it as an actual deer.- 1885 replies
