I'm going to say 3. A little too much body for 2, but not enough antler mass for older than 3. For whatever reason he seems hard to judge in that pose even if he is broadside. If he really is 3 or less then he will be a Christer in another year. Nice photo.

The only thing the midwest has on NY is genetics and more restricted gun seasons. The debate here is about letting that guy mature, not whether he would ever he would ever grow into a B+C buck. For the guys that say there are no mature bucks in their area: A) they are there- you just aren't seeing them, and you would see more of them if you didn't shoot them when they are young. If you pick all the low-hanging fruit (less cautious bucks) when they are <4 yrs old, then all you have left are the spooky, smart ones. The midwest, managed-land video hunts are on properties where NO bucks <4-5 yrs old are shot. That way when you get a 5yr old buck that is inherently dumb, hot girls make it look easy to kill them, which it is.

Thanks guys! Lawdwaz- My son (if I had one that I knew of) would have to been born when I was in middle school to be legally hunting with me in CT this year.

Went back to my homeland of CT for the bow opener last thursday the 15th. Saw 4 total bucks and managed to tag 2 of them. Both nice 8 pts. The velvet one won't quite make P&Y, but the other one should. Despite not having a lot of antler inches by NY standards, I'm pretty sure the hard-horned buck is 4yrs. His ears are all torn up from a previous rut or 2. These guys are my 3rd and 4th biggest bow kills and a full velvet doesn't come by every day! No acorns in the woods this year, but lots of apples. I intercepted these guys on their way to an abandoned orchard 21 minutes apart. (Yes, CT does issue 2 antlerless and 2 either sex tags for bow). I can't imagine a better start to my season; no pressure whatsoever.

I haven't had any problems in 3 years unless I catch one on a branch. The blood trail can't be beaten- thats why I use 'em.

These are the 2 biggest I have seen while hunting, and was luckily able to kill. The first one (2006, bow) scored 166, the other (2008, gun) scored 164. I saw a very symetrical 12 pt last summer I thought would go 170+. I met a guy last week that showed me a picture on his cell phone of the buck- with his friend's wife holding it! It was her first buck ever and scored in the low 160s.

Here is a pic of a 45" adjustable offset disk I made. I started with the 10' horse drawn disk in the first pic. Works great.

Headed to CT for the bow opener Sep. 15 and SD in November for deer and pheasant.

The droptine buck's left browtine actually splits onto 3 points. Don't know if you saw that. Both are STUDS.
