  1. So far so good. Yes- there is a little bit of activity right now- but not what you would expect for mid-November. There definitely was rubbing, scraping, fighting, and breeding in the last week of October. Also- there were a lot of big bucks killed at that time too. I have hunted in the Adirondacks and Massachusetts in the past 10 days. In both places there was little active rut activity but quite a few older scrapes with leaves in them. This morning I finally saw 2 really torn up fresh scrapes, so I would have to say that things are going to Alsheimer's plan so far.
  2. thanks- its the 1st one from camera to harvest for me.
  3. thats cool to get one 2 years in a row. kind of a gnarly dude
  4. I was bored, but using ear length, etc. this is what I came up with.
  5. Yes- I agree, but I never had a chance at a good buck last year, so I wasn't going to pass this dude up
  6. Some of you may recognize this setting from previous posts. The oats are ridiculously high. A couple of familiar bucks and at least one new one.
  7. Thanks- the painful part is having to wait until the 20th to hunt around here again. I'm still getting big bucks on camera. I already had next week off, so I am going to Mass. to bowhunt there.
  8. I didn't post this pic to cause a ruckus- I just think the deer in the pic is huge and want know more about it. I'm kind of hoping it is real. The word in the local bowshop here is that it is real and the guy is a consistently successful hunter. I DO think this whole post belongs in this forum- this is a New York hunting forum after all and that is supposedly a New York deer, and most of us on here are interested in big buck kills in the state regardless of whether or not a "forum" member killed it. However, I do apologize for originally posting it in the "members only" harvest thread- I guess I din't read the rules and regulations clearly enough. As for HORN PORN- I love it! Show me more. I do not apologize for liking big deer antlers, although the doe venison I am going to eat for dinner tonight is going to taste better.
  9. Yes-past tense. You could consider him alumni now.
  10. Thanks- it was just like in the movies- with ears back, all puffed up. A huge thrill
  11. Going to do the European mount. The cape is a really nice blondish color though.
  12. Rumor has it that this deer was taken near or in Cato, NY last week sometime. Details are vague at best and the picture could be better because it came from a text message. I've heard several 3rd and 4th hand verifications, so this is all I know for now. If anyone has more details- please fill us in.
  13. Some of you may have seen the trail video of this dude already. Came in to the decoy, ears back, snort wheezing, making scrapes and rubs. Right under the tree. Had to wait for him to get out to 3 yards. Hit him just below the loin and in front of the last couple of ribs and angled forward, center punching the heart, burying in the brisket bone. Only went 60 yds. No exit wound though. Will take better pictures soon. Make you want to fall out of the tree...
  14. Yeah- I guess I have to remember that the bodies are a lot bigger up there too
  15. Here's a couple pics of a true monster from the Adirondacks, somewhere near Long Lake, but he won't say exactly where... Give it your best guess on score. I'm coming up with 160+.
  16. Here's a cool 8pt that just got promoted to the hit list.
  17. Broken off drop tine on left main beam and another drop tine that comes off the left base and straight down the side of his face. Look close on both pics. Cool
  18. Here's a buck my dad's neighbor got with his bow earlier this week. Said to have 15 points. Estimating a 145-150 8pt frame w/ 20-25" of nontypical points. Note how symetrical even those points are. Also- droptine on left main beam broken off.
  19. its a nice deer for sure, but it looks bigger than it is when he holds it away from his body
  20. I came face to face with the buck I mentioned at the beginning of this post last night at 5pm literally in the back yard (20yds from the house) of the property I hunt on my late entry to my stand. He bounded into the overgrown xmas tree patch behind my stand. About half an hour later I heard something directly downwind of me. I couldn't see much because it was so thick, but I caught a flash of antler. I figured he would snort and blow out of there, but instead he marched right out at 10yds in the open and quartered across me. He's a nice 3yr-old with a split on one brow tine and a 3" sticker on the other side. I snapped a cell phone pic of him just before he went into the woods. Sorry for the poor quality. He is at the left of the pic.
