  1. I was desperate Lol. No didn't make it to the freezer, but you can bet your ass I'll be after him again tomorrow! He's officially my first turkey nemesis Lol. Unfortunately where he was is land I don't have permission to hunt, so I have to get him to come to me. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  2. What's your opinion on this decoy setup? Maybe he didn't like it I don't know. I had it so the mature strutting tom was 10 yards out looking at me, and one hen about 8 yards out looking away. Maybe try just the single hen tomorrow? Or nothing at all? I know its all trial and error and learning just thought I'd ask your opinions. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  3. OK thanks. Any input is welcomed believe me. Unfortunately I can't get to where the 1st one was cause its an adjacent property. I have no choice but to coax him in. Ridge line might have been the wrong phrase, really it's the top of a hill that butts up against a pond. So imagine uphill then flat pond, he was walking right along that edge that's why he was silhouetted. G-man the gobbles must have been with hens like you said, they were in different areas. I'll definitely try the call tactics you guys mentioned Thanks again! Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  4. Congratulations! Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks you too. I did call that way he just wasn't interested. When he got really far out is when I picked up the pace. I'll be gunnin for him tomorrow. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  6. Thought I would just share the results of my first time turkey hunting. (9H) I have 3 spots, all private land. Didn't scout the area I was in today but chose it because of the weather. I wanted a more open field. I was there setup in my blind at 4:30am. Dekes out all pumped and ready to go! Hit the owl call a couple times from then till 5, nothing. About 6:00 I put out some yelps, still nothing. Didn't hear one peep. I'm thinking this spots a bust. I'm facing East at the top of a hill and out of the corner of my eye I see it. He's about 100 yards to my right walking a ridge line. I could see his beard silhouetted against the skyline. This bird never made a sound. Now the adrenaline immediately starts pumping. This is the first wild turkey I've ever seen. It looked huge to me. I keep calm, throw out some soft clucks and purrs and he's extending his head up as high as it'll go checking my area out, but he keeps on going. Finally he gobbles once, then again but I can tell he's going further away. I can't hunt where he was headed but I was so hopped up I don't think I could have shot him if he was on top of me. From then till 9:30 not a sign of any turkeys nearby. Headed out to one of my other areas that I scouted. Got setup, starting cutting, had 4 gobble back before I was even done with the call, then nothing from them either. No matter what I did I couldn't get a response. Stuck it out till noon but none came my way. Maybe the weather gave them a case of lockjaw I don't know, but I'm pumped for tomorrow. That first bird is going to be my nemesis I can feel it. I may not have gotten a bird but i'm definitely hooked! Seems to me I'm doing something right. It's only a matter of time.
  7. Thank you. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  8. That's what I meant (sorry still a newb). So license on you but back tag displayed, during any open season? Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  9. I need an Atty to understand the DEC website. Do you have to display your license on your back at all times or just have it on you? Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  10. Have a full strut tom out 1 hen. No he didn't see me Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  11. Got a big tom 100 yards out. Moving away. He definitely saw my decoys. I'm playing hard to get. Just soft clucks and purrs sparingly. He's gobbled 3-4 times but they're getting further away. Just stay the course? Bow hunting so no run n gun. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  12. I don't know why I'm wasting my time, actually in a dispute with someone about an avatar pic but here it goes. I'm not contradicting myself pal, and this is the last thing I will say or entertain reading about it. I honestly didn't know it was a problem. You not noticing didn't even cross my mind. I'm new to forums, and didn't think something so petty was a big deal. You messaged me, I said it was a beautiful pic, is it not OK I use it? Sincerely asking if that's something people do/don't do on forums. You went on to throw the first insult and make a point I'm misrepresenting myself and i should be proud. A simple no, its common courtesy to ask would have sufficed. I would have apologized and that would have been that. I then said you need to relax guy. Its not a priceless work of art. In your mind I could care less. Is it on display in a art gallery? No. Do yourself a favor. Don't post something on the internet you don't want used, because it might hurt your precious sense of self worth. I could care less what you think of some guy in the crossbow threads or me. You clearly are insane, and a whack job by my definition. I apologized twice and removed it immediately. Be the bigger man, get over it. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  13. Well I didn't mean to make it an issue. I was obviously wrong, and can admit that. Thanks for the helpful input! Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  14. Thank u got it Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  15. I did compliment him after the fact. Said it was a beautiful picture, is using it not OK? That's when I got the you should be proud of yourself message. Sounds like a whack job to me, hardly a priceless work of art, but as I said I changed it anyway. I'd hate to think somebody somewhere is losing sleep cause I used his picture he put up on the internet Lol.
  16. So I'm new to the forums. Saw an awesome picture of a turkey this guy put up on the forums...so me being the excited newb I am used it as my avatar pic. He decided it was worth his time to message me saying I'm basically stealing his picture and misrepresenting myself by using it. I since changed it but is this guy insane or am I wrong for using it? Do I need to get used to whack jobs on here or is "stealing" another's photo a forum cardinal sin?
  17. Thanks you too. Yea it was snowing this morning at 5am...friggin ridiculous... Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  18. Gonehntn I didn't notice a difference in how they sounded, but honestly I wasn't listening for it. Just was focused on hearing them at all. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  19. Thanks, lots of good help. Heh live in Tonawanda, hunt in southern tier. The problem I have is I can't get closer or cut them off in any direction. Its all private land and they all said no...so basically I don't have a choice but to call them to me. I thought they were crossing from north to south, passed where I was to this field I mentioned. Mind you I'm bow hunting so the run n gun is out. Its basically a strip of cleared power lines with woods north and south, steep drop off ravine on the west side, road on the east side. I've located at least 4 gobbling to the north & south. Early April the neighbor counted numerous times a flock of 20+ birds in his field 80 yards south of me. (Yea he's nice enough to tell me what he saw but won't let me on his property. Haha). I think I just need to put in my time and be patient. I just get itchy cause I'm a beginner so I second guess everything. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  20. I haven't seen anything or heard anything since 6:30. Wonder if this is a bad spot Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  21. The stream is at the bottom of a huge ravine. About 150 yards lengthwise then it levels out. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  22. As I've said a couple times now I'm new to hunting, forums, the whole 9. Here's my setup. Today is my last scouting/ dry run. I've been in my blind since 4:45am. Hit the owl call, had 2 start hooting back, one came within at least 20 yards of me which was pretty cool, anyway I heard 2 toms then. About 5:45 I heard 4 toms distinctly gobbling like crazy. (Didn't hear any fly downs). I would guess they were 100ish yards away. About 6:30 heard some yelps/clucks and more gobbling. Haven't heard a thing since then. I did throw out a few yelps but maybe 3-4 in that hour timespan. I'm hunting in a narrow clearing. (along power lines, there's a huge field to the south of me which I don't have permission to hunt, where I heard 2 of the 4 toms gobbling. I'm surrounded by woods in all directions with a stream to the west). Is this silence probably due to them getting busy? Then once that's over the toms would be back out looking for more? I was hoping I could just see them cross through this area on their own but no such luck yet. I suppose I'm in a great spot, just need to be patient and relax, what do u vets think?
