  1. Luckily not my gun. I will let my friend know and let him decide. Thanks again for all the great info.
  2. Sorry if its a dumb question but my buddy got a Mossberg 500 from a relative for free and I haven't seen this before. Any help appreciated.
  3. So we all know about the blizzard but how will 3+ ft of snow on the ground affect the deer this coming weekend? I know they have to eat but were talking snow over their head in some spots. Thanks for your input!

    My 1st buck

I'm in the stand from 6-11. I'm cold n hungry so I get down to head to the cabin. I planned on going to another spot so I smoke a cig, trudge around getting my scent wicks and go back to the stand for my backpack. I put it on, clip the belt and look up and there's a huge 8 pointer staring at me at 50 yards tops. In the next 5 seconds I grab my shotgun, aim fire, he doesn't move an inch. I rack another round aim fire and he takes off. I could only see his head and top 1/4 of his body as he was behind a downed tree. I missed him both times. I couldn't believe it. Missed my first buck and first kill. This is my rookie year. It was so fast and he caught me so off guard. I'll be thinking about this one for years to come. If only I stayed in the stand 5 more minutes. If only I aimed an inch lower. If only this if only that. Just unreal.

  7. Yea it sure does. I closed my eyes at one point cause I figured she'd see my eyeballs Lol! When you can hear leaves crunching under they're footsteps you know your close. I've enjoyed every minute this season. Bird or no bird I'm hooked. I've come so close so many times and had a ton of action my first year. I can truly say if I went with a shotty instead of a bow all season I most definitely would have tagged out. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  8. Not one gobble today for me either. Did have a hen come in and sit on my lap tho. About 5 feet away, was quite the experience. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  9. Well not a sound today, but I had a hen come in and just about sit on my lap. Was less than 5 feet away... Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  10. Yea I use a mouth call. That bird was responding every time I hit a note on the box that's why I stuck with it. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  11. Yea ill try playing hard to get tomorrow with that one. I'm counting on those other birds coming by at 7...we'll see. It was more of trial period vs. an actual patterning I guess. I went with 3" #6's with the full choke vs. the modified. Tried those and 4's & 5's with those two chokes. Just using the stock chokes till next season. Setup at 40 yards had plenty in the kill zone to get the job done. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  12. Looking for any tips you guys might have for late season turkey. It seems like that they have quieted down quite a bit. Always coming in silent now, and there's a gaggle of jakes I've been spotting in the same spot at 6:30-7am the last two times I was out. They're about 60 yards into the timber where i will make sure i am at 5am tomorrow morning. Do they start to follow more of a "pattern" this time of year or just coincidence? Last week I also noticed one tom keeps sounding off right at 9am. This time I went to him. I must have closed the gap to 75-80 yards and he was responding well to my box call. Got setup in a clearing but maybe he pegged me cause he disappeared. I don't know maybe I should have called less who knows. If you guys have read any of my previous posts I have put the bow down. Went out on memorial day, got my veteran discount, and bought a Benelli supernova... Yes I'm that determined to get a bird in my rookie year! Patterned and ready to go. I got Thursday-Saturday to make this happen! Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk

Yea Whaler that has given me my best opportunity, but when your new like me everyone & everything said for bows buy yourself a blind, get some decoys and get out there Lol. I just thought that's how it was done. I'm sure it works for a lot of people but obviously I'm missing something when I do it. The only other thing you vets have turned me onto is if in a blind use a natural obstacle to my advantage. I have 4 more times to go out before the season ends. I'll try both ways mentioned and hope for the best! Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk

Honestly, I think the blind and the decoys have hurt me. I went on foot one time with the bow and got within 25 yards of three Jakes I just didnt have a clear shot I set up in a spot where I thought they were going to cross that road and they crossed about 20 yards further down. This will be long but here's the setup. I'm on the edge of a property I can hunt. To my East is where they are roosting a good 200 yards in. There's a field between me and them. Then on my side of that field is woods then a logging road then more woods and I'm on a game trail branching off that road. (Can't hunt the road or fields). So I'm getting them into that logging road really. The first time I was there I was facing north they came from the east and walked 30 yards to my right on that road. I was sure they were going to turn up the trail when they saw the dekes and it would have been game over. I look out the window and 6 were walking in a line away from me Lol. They kept right on going. The last time I was there I setup facing that logging road and for whatever reason 2 came in, circled around from south to west and again kept on going. Only the last two times i did. There's just so much action there. I've been moving around before that trying to get different positions on them but they're staying on a bordering property then coming to my calls and like I said 50-70 ish yards then they just keep on going. Saturday i thought about moving on the opposite side of a small ravine they go toward. Try and get em coming up that side where I could see them coming then if they do come over the lip they would already be in range. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk

Thanks for the vote of confidence Meat Manager. Yea with all the research I did on turkey hunting this year I never read a thing about using the terrain to my advantage while in a blind and I never thought about it. As in using an obstacle they need to clear putting them in range when they do. I've learned so much this year and I'm definitely hooked. Even if I don't get a bird I've had a great time out there.
