  1. Awesome Chris! I gotta get out on a walleye bite one of these days. Just gotta drag myself away from chasing those smallies lol.
I hear you, smallies are more fun for fighting purposes, but not for eating! Oneida will be getting better and better right into November.

  2. Hey Chris, that is a heck of a deal, I have the little Christensen Ranger 22 and it is a tack driver and I am very happy with it. Wring that new Creedmoor out and give a report on how she does.
    Al
Will do! The scope should be here soon and I'll see what it can do after break in. I bought 5 different rounds to try out although the majority of people report that it loves the Hornady 143 ELDX, we shall see.

  3. So if by chance anyone is interested in a new Christensen Arms rifle they have a real good promotion going on right now. You get $400-450 in e cash for their site if you buy a Mesa or Ridgeline to use toward anything including optics. I purchased the Ridgeline in 6.5 Creedmoor which is a carbon barreled 6.3lb rifle with a Trigger tech trigger, muzzle brake. They are beautiful rifles, they come with the 1 MOA guarantee. I received my e cash and put the $450 toward a Leupold VX-3HD 3.5-10x40 and I paid $50 out of pocket for a $500 scope. Pretty killer deal! 4. I'm still being dumb, only dumber.
The third series of broadheads I bought came. Helix FJ4.  "Damn these are dull. Really dull."  I tried sharpening them. I'm no novice at sharpening things. Tried and tried and worked on one of them. After quite a bit of effort I could feel it was sharper, but nowhere near what I'd call sharp. Then the next day I saw a picture of one with the tip curled over.  Hmmm.... (though it could have been a knockoff)
So last night I ordered even more of another brand.  (and I keep buying more expensive ones every time. Pissing away the money.)

Been experimenting with different fletching styles. Not really wanting to remove some because I may go back to them, I figured heck I'll just order another dozen arrows. Then I'll be set probably for the life of this bow (or more likely for as long as I'm physically able to shoot one).  So I did.
Shooting 300 spine, what I've been trying to shoot was being fussy. Trouble with tuning. Zero confidence in it.  Then for the heck of it I tried some heavier, 100gr inserts. Same exact problem but amplified. Hmmm...  I wonder if I'm just underspined?  So for the heck of it I bought a couple 250 spine shaft.  Ended up moving nock height a smidgen and its shooting bare shafts perfect at 30 yards. M@tha#^^**&!!!   So I ordered enough to make a dozen.  Now I have more in arrows than I paid for the bow. Doh!

(last night I went through everything I've bought, good and bad and totaled it up. I was stunned. Did it twice because I swore I must have made a mistake. I've almost spent seven times more on other stuff than I did on my "cheap bow".  Some of which you may see for sale here soon! lol)
I hear all of that. I'm the same way, that's part of the fun I think. You can look into certain things as much/little as you like. I typically look into more than most, but to me it's just part of the journey, experimenting with vanes/shafts/combo's/FOC/spine etc... I just put together what I'm hoping is a winning combo for this fall, more range sessions will tell if more tinkering is warranted but so far they're doing exactly what I hoped for. I went 250 spine this time around, the archery shop guy thought it wouldn't work but my research told me otherwise, thankfully I was right. Victory XV 250 shafts (8 gpi) with 3 true helical AAE Max hunters, 100 gr. Ethics inserts, 100 gr heads put me at 470 grains and roughly 18% FOC. Strapping a few "Tooth of the arrow" heads and Magnus black hornets on soon for the real flight test to 75 yds.

  5. I can respect your enthusiastic appreciation for coyotes, and agree with your assessment of their intelligence. But, I think there are many, myself included, who don't share that same love. It is not for lack of understanding of coyotes, or lack of respect for nature. I would guess people have their own, well founded reason for not liking them. In my case, for years I have personally watched them cruising my fields for fawns. It is one of the reasons I let my field go wild and stopped haying them. I figured it made it safer for the fawns and nesting turkeys. I think it did help with the deer, but not so sure it made any difference with the turkeys.
I also had them come in on my beagles several times while rabbit hunting, and one actually had them kill one of my beagles. I have several friends who faced the same problem while running rabbits with beagles. We all began running our beagles with bells on their collars to try to keep the coyotes at bay.
On a couple of occasions I had coyotes barking  at my big  female dog at dusk in our front yard, trying to lure her over to them, and I thankfully was there to call her back to the house. They will have one coyotes bark and act all playful to lure your dog close, and then others waiting behind and out of sight will bolt out to ambush your dog if it takes the bait. A dairy farmer neighbor once had a coyote trying to take his black lab down by its back leg, in his barnyard. Luckily, he got out there in time to run it off.
I have heard neighbors complain of losing livestock to coyotes, but myself just got into chickens and have not had that issue so far.
Without exaggeration my property and the surrounding area is thick with coyotes, and the eruption of several different packs all going off at the same time right behind my house I find hair raising, and certainly not pretty, at least to my ear. It would please me and my wife to no end, if one of the folks in my area who like to hunt them, by any means, would rid my property of every one of them.  Unfortunately, I know that is not realistic, and agree it is entirely possible coyotes like cockroaches will likely be that last critters on earth.
Again, animals are animals. Coyotes are trying to survive the same as a tree blocking undergrowth. They are not malicious or have bad intentions. I'm not in "love" with coyotes, I don't like seeing a fawn eaten either but it is nature and nature has a better handle on things than man ever will. Anecdotal evidence is not science. Do coyotes cause issues at times? Sure. So do feral cats, beavers and raccoons. There are people out there who will cry wolf (no pun intended) because their "observations" are so different than seemingly anyone else's that certainly their problem must be greater than the average. It's easy to look out on a mountain range and think "what a peaceful place." When in reality everything is trying to kill everything else for its own survival, coyotes are no exception, neither are humans. To hate one species and glorify the others is not conservation. You don't have to like them, but you should respect them.

  6. I want coyote to be around, as they have their place in nature and being wile E, are a worthy opponent.
NY having a hunting season for them will guarantee their presence in the state and if they overpopulate and start killing the easy picking house pets, I'll keep getting calls to hunt them.

With or without a season they will always be around. I find them easy for people to hate because they're far smarter than most people are and we don't like that. I believe indian folklore put them as the "last animal on earth." I respect the hell out of them, they're beautiful, extremely smart and even their midnight chorus is pretty if you truly respect nature. They have their part, as we all do. It's a shame we hate what we don't understand so easily.

  7. I like to try out a myriad of heads but I favor fixed heads now for the most part, big cuts aren't always the answer. Last year I used Ramcat Diamondbacks at a 1" cut, neither deer made it 40 yds. This year I've picked up some Tooth of the Arrow heads and Magnus Black Hornets so far. I just picked up my new bow, built arrows using a different recipe and figured I'd try some new heads as well. My new rig is an Elite Era (carbon) and I'm shooting Victory Velocity Xv's in a 250 spine, max hunter vanes with a true helical fletch, with 100 gr Ethics inserts to a finished weight of 475 grains with about 18% FOC. I'm excited to put it to use. IMG_20230707_144153880.jpgIMG_20230707_135122488.jpgIMG_20230707_135134336.jpg

  8. Predation is natural and healthy. I know people get butthurt when a coyote eats a fawn but its nature's design. Deer are not strictly for human use as many people seem to believe. If a coyote kills a fawn it's hunter outrage, but when a hunter shoots a fawn it's "doesn't get any better eating than that, congratulations." Coyotes are not the problem most people believe them to be, it's just an easy scapegoat for everything deer related it seems. Deer are in no danger of eradication, and coyotes will never be eradicated either, it's time to live with both. I'm not a coyote activist, I've shot and trapped plenty, but I'm also not uninformed and willing to fall into the old school mentality. Studies have debunked A LOT of what people used to believe through bar room chatter. Balance is the key, eradication is rarely ever the answer. Feel free to flame me, I don't care, we're well past demonizing animals for old campfire hysteria I'd like to think.

  9. I bought a Glock 40 last year, it wasn't easy to find with 10rd mags though. I like it so far, I bought it for deer hunting and of course the day I left it in the truck because it was really cold and windy is the day a doe came by at 20 yds. Next year I hope to use it more.

  10. Chris if you dont sell this I might be interested. Let me know I am in the capital district area.
It's definitely going to sell in the next 4 days, I've received a bid on ebay for my starting price so it's essentially sold, just waiting to see who highest bidder is at end of auction. If something crazy happens I'll let you know though.

  11. Hi Chris, I sent you a PM. If you replied, I didn’t get it.

My messages haven't worked right in quite awhile. I never got anything from you when I just looked. I just sent you a message, if you didn't get it let me know. The arrows have already sold on ebay, the bow is currently listed on a 5 day auction on ebay also.

  12. Yeah I learned about a new product I didn't  know existed before traditional Nitro fire thats close enough to a single shot that if I would have known  about it  I probably not have  bothered to start this thread  lol
I'm still trying to understand why you started this thread at all? I'm not sure what you're even trying to say? Can you not afford a muzzleloader but have an old single shot smoothbore in your closet? Where do you fit into this? Do you even hunt the muzzleloader season now? Do you even hunt? You don't sound well informed of anything hunting related. Or is this the typical, "Well if they'd just add an implement that's easier and more beneficial for me then I'll gladly start hunting that season."?

  13. Anyone interested in a 55# Bear Super Grizzly Recurve? I bought it a couple of years ago but have only put like 40 arrows through it. I just don't find myself devoting the amount of time to it that I'd want to hunt with it. It's like new, comes with the stringer, I'll even throw in a dozen gold tip traditional arrows (shafts, unfletched/uncut) and a shooting tab and the field points that I had bought for the arrows I never set up with the deal as I won't be needing them either. I'll include some actual pictures and more details if anyone wants them. I'd like to get $400 and I'll pay shipping also. Screenshot_20230225-222159.jpg

  14. That’s going to be a sweet setup! I’m now an Elite shooter as well. I bought a Remedy last summer and liked it so much I bought another one as a backup.

That stinks you have to wait til June, but it’ll still be plenty of time to get it dialed before you’re in a tree with it.

Yea, I ordered it but the dealer was told 12 weeks out. As long as it comes by June I should have plenty of time to get a bunch of shooting in. I've always liked Elites, but for whatever reason I just never ended up with one.
