  1. I don't  know how old you are but I can guarantee that there are more predators now than there was when I was a kid in the southern tier area. When I was a kid there was foxes and an occasional bear sighting.
Coyotes, bobcats, fishers, and bear populations have definitely increased. They will continue to increase with hunting land access declining. Its perhaps decs plan
I would kill a "varmit" without hesitation, but maybe I am just a city boy, lol.
    Or maybe you are soft
It's "varmint"... And you'll be ok, make sure your nighlight is on, fishers, bears, wolves, coyotes and Gremlins don't like the light. You guys watch too many horror movies.

  2. my point is that knowing something is dead/no longer a threat can be important to a father. versus assuming and hoping.
Can we stop throwing around the "imminent danger" BS now!? You guys are introducing drama by the truckload, I'm killing every animal in sight for my kids safety, please! your kids are far more likely to OD on meth or get abducted at the mall than be attacked by a coyote and you're worried about a damn hole in your woods!? When we were kids we ran all over the big woods with every predator around and never even so much as saw one, my parents never worried about us kids being preyed upon by coyotes or any other animal for crying out loud. If it was a damn grizzly den behind your house you'd have reason to worry. Hell, half of you guys couldn't even lay eyes on a coyote at night with a predator call and now they're going to come up and snatch you while you sleep?

  3. it's not apples to apples. but they frequent my camp a lot. and we have a gun on hip or in camp. wouldn't hesitate to shoot one if threatened. in the case of the op... he's addressing it first.
    broad daylight 8/16.

That's not apples to apples but you're comparing coyotes to rapists getting the death penalty!? The guy attempted to poison a den full of whatever happened to be in there without having a clue and regardless of law! So now we can just kill things before they "threaten" you!? If nature scares you guys this much just stay inside...

  4. i've trapped all sort of critters from coons to opossums and shoot squirrels that mess up my bird feeder. so sue me.

whats the difference between coyotes and putting out poison for moles, mice etc. Where do we draw the line?
Let's say it was a bear den... Would you still say the same?

  5. The Vermin lovers would cry big tears if they went to states that really know how to make game laws and control useless pests when they would have to watch whole den full of vermin cut down with someones AR.
To the Op....Its much faster to just blow dens up.Not much top hurt and blast takes out everything underneath.( So i have been told of course) Your property and your family..Do what ya gotta do and lose no sleep.
We get it, your the site macho Man, no feelings, no remorse, just pure masculinity. So admirable.

  6. Im not forgetting anything. The deer living 40 yards from your back porch is not going to go after your kid or pets.
What if it was an elk or moose? They have attacked people, they can be dangerous?

  7. Some animals that would be considered pests are. Grey squirrels, coons, etc.
So if you consider an animal a pest you're going to disobey game laws and take matters into your own hands? Why not call and remedy the manner legally? If the DEC tells you to kill them then have at it, this wasn't the case...

  8. So then you wouldnt kill a woodchuck, rat, chipmunk, red squirrel, mouse, or any other pest.
There's a difference in killing out of necessity and just killing. And if it comes down to killing, then a quick painless death is the way to go, not burning, drowning or gassing. You seem to be forgetting, I hunt more than most, I kill often. I'm not PETA or anti hunting in the slightest, but I am for letting things live that don't NEED to be killed. If this mysterious coyote was causing trouble or killing livestock then measures could be taken, this animal was simply living in a hole, protected by game and fish laws. Would you condone me shooting deer out of season for eating in my garden?

  9. The way I see it... The OP didn't have a clue what was or even if there was anything in that hole. He could've put a camera on it to verify. If it was a coyote den, a very minor bit of harassment and it would've left (with pups if it had any). I don't and will never advocate burning, drowning, gassing, clubbing etc. any animals. The hysteria in adult men who are supposedly sportsmen advocating to burn them alive is disgusting. If I were to have a litter of pups I didn't want so I created a post saying I was going to gas them or burn them I'd be an asshole. Correct? So how is this any different? Sportsmen are supposed to be stewards of the land, not "I'm going to torture or kill anything I see fit on my property regardless of game laws." If you can justify some of these actions then some of you are no better than the anti hunting crowd paints you.

  10. I’m going to try and not use fowl language in my response to you. But you are a special kind of stupid. I’m certainly not afraid of every hole in the ground. But when there is a active coyote den 40 yards off your back porch with la deer front quarter mostly dragged down the hole it makes you think. Maybe we should dig a hole and bury your dumb A$$ In it.

So now you know it was an "active coyote den?" A few days ago you were asking us what it was? Seems to me you still don't know what was or is using the hole. Next time you decide to do stupid and illegal things maybe you shouldn't post it online. #stupidcriminals

We better not see you bashing anyone this fall that gets caught poaching then in one of the many articles that pop up. You are no better... Is it safe to assume you'd be jumping all over your next door neighbor for shooting the deer in the summer in his garden? After all, they're just a worthless pest to him... Im not one to believe but I do hope Karma is real...

  12. 1.) Have you voted in this poll ?  2.) If so, did you vote for or against full inclusion ?   When I asked you last night, if you supported full inclusion or not, I suspect that your reply may have been alcohol-induced because it was less than perfectly clear.
Maybe after sobering up, you could attempt an answer to the two questions.  If not, as a supporter of full inclusion myself, I do appreciate your extensive contributions to this thread thus far.  If nothing else, your shear number of posts have brought the truth of the overwhelming support of the membership here back up to the top for all to see.   It looks like several opponents of full inclusion have given up this fight, after I pointed that out to them.
One final question :  Would you mind if I called you "bumper914" ?
I haven't given up, my vote is still a no... I just don't care to waste my time justifying my position to you. Put that vote in your diary.

  13. I went out shed hunting this morning around 9:30am and I got into the hardwoods and 2 gobblers started hammering, I could hear a pile of hens clucking almost nonstop for half an hour so I started creeping toward them hoping to get a few strutter pictures. I started hearing hens real close so I tucked into the shady side of a tree and out came 7 hens, no gobblers. Over the course of an hour they fed up to 20 yards from me while in blue jeans and a hoodie, I got a few pictures off, the gobblers went the other way with other hens as they continued to go crazy. I later jumped the same group of hens out of goldenrods 300 yds away.turkeyx5.JPGturkeyx4.JPGturkeyx3.JPGturkeyx2.JPGturkey.JPG

  14. We we're doing a deer drive and pushed a buck past my cousin and he shot a couple of times, he saw the buck go down. When we got up to it one of his shots had taken both front hooves off, the buck must have jumped over something and he tucked his front legs up and caught a 308 projectile. Weird things happen on occasion. This particular deer caught one in the lungs too but I imagine there are a lot of deer out there with some real odd injuries.

  15. I've been trout fishing all winter! But no, I won't be going out on Sunday, I'll wait until May/June when the hoards of "suddenly trout fisherman" disperse and the water warms a bit. I hate fishing on weekends as it is, too many people, fish get spooked and lock up. Good luck to you though!

  16. Went 1 for 3 this morning and landed this spawned out hen, how I landed her is beyond me, I knew I was fishing a risky spot due to being in between 2 logs but I don't worry about landing them until I hook up. She took it and went around on the inside of the log and went screaming downstream, long story short, 10 minutes later and wading out into 4' of rapids I was able to work her back. d01c33038252c4ee866d3fb9763f723f.jpg03939e8a6e0fa86ff3e299bcc4aa7618.jpg
