  1. Haha yep, brand new so we had to weigh everything today, including that 7 oz bass in the pic you mentioned
  2. Spent all day on Allen Lake, then ditched to a small pond that holds some giants but not a lot of luck. Pond is half covered in thick scum but I managed to put together a decent punch rig and pulled in a pounder.
  3. My brother caught an absolute beast tonight at a tiny pond... I couldnt even get a bite >.< My scale is broken and we didnt bring a measuring tape but pictures hardly even do it justice, it was a lunker!
  4. Taught my kid how to fish barely a week ago... hit a pond last night and final count was 3-0. How does that work! Don't mind his horrified face, I practically shoved the fish into his hand, after taking off the first two for him!
  5. Well nothing nefarious of course! but I'd pay good money too. Been trying to find someone with a good pond or private access they would share but no luck.
  6. "Only 3.1" I'd do some sketchy things to catch a bass that size. I'm lucky if I can find a pound! Great fish!
  7. Nice catch! I'm also jealous of the dog.. mine would be overboard with excitement!
  8. Got approved for the day off Friday so my brother and I are planning a full day "on the water". Haven't decided where to go yet though . Taking suggestions in/near/around (or maybe not near) Allegany County, since we have the whole day and can make a longer trip. No boat, he fishes for anything that bites, I'm in it for LMB.
  9. My bad! 2 extremes--80 degrees and bright sun vs 55 degrees and windy as all get out.
  10. Pulled a decent (10.5in) largemouth out of Allen Lake this week, and this chubbier guy out of a private farm pond (with permission!). Still trying to chase the trout (or decent largemouth) at Allen Lake with nooo luck.
  11. Allegany County is the same as above...fast and muddy.
  12. Gahhh. I was going to take the day off too and last week the forecast called for rain so I figured I'd wait. Now the sun is shining and all I'm thinking of is worms and eggs :-P
  13. I did hear that the Winterkill at Alma Pond was bad this year. I think for today, I'm going to go solo and head to the river to see what I can find!
  14. You know, I've been to Allen Lake 3 times now (twice last year, once the year before) and NEVER caught anything there! Not sure what the deal there is, but we always shore fish. I definitely have a license, I go alone or with my brother most of the time but the kids are at the age now where they want to come along so at some point I'm sure I'll bring them! We like Palmer's Pond (Palmers Pond State Forest) between Belmont and Alfred but that's usually one of the last places to thaw.
  15. I'm itching to get out and fish again, since the season starts tomorrow. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on good places to take kids, for when I want them to come along. Mostly just looking for somewhere that will keep them busy with bobber and a worm (sunfish, rock bass, suckers, whatever). Also, is there a better place for rainbows along the Genesee that anybody knows of? Thank you in advance!
  16. 6ish inches since yesterday here. The cold is pretty bitter though, which really kills it for me.
  17. That's what I was hoping for, thanks!
  18. I laughed when I read it. It's great that he's super defense and all but...ya'll really need an offense. Just sayin.
  19. I was too excited to take the hat off So it's a little hard to tell in the pic, but under the arms and on the outside of the left sleeve is pink. Is that going to cause me a bunch of trouble come May?
  20. I'm too excited to not share with someone and my husband is supremely uninterested... I finally got (well...ordered) my camo for next year (turkey)!! I was waiting for who knows what, but Cabela's has all women's Browning Hells Belles apparel on sale up to 50% off so it was a smokin' deal that I couldn't pass up. Won't be here til after New Years but holy smokes I'm excited! No idea how I'm gonna last 4.5 more months!
  21. I have yet to actually shoot a turkey but I will never forget the first time I went out. I was about 15 years old. I woke my grandpa up about 45 minutes earlier than necessary and he laughed at me... I had a diaphragm call but didn't know anything about different types of calls or anything. We walked out and found a place to sit, and I called a bit. And a bit more. And a bit more. Finally I decided to be quiet for a bit so I leaned back against a tree and the next thing I knew, I was starting to drift off. Out of nowhere, I heard a gobble! My head jerked up and without thinking I whipped around to where my grandpa was sitting and said "Was that a turkey??!" and he laughed at me and nodded. I never got to see the darn thing but I was so excited to know that at least they were there! My grandpa has since passed away and he will be on my mind when I go out there this spring!
  22. Stopping by to introduce myself! I'm in Allegany County, and I'm quite novice. I hunted with my grandfather when I was much younger, and was hoping to again but unfortunately he passed away last fall. I'm determined to go out for spring turkey just like I did when he was with me. Looking forward to picking up tips & info, I sure could use them!
