  1. Absolutely. We haven't done anything illegal, and won't - but I was just curious as to people's opinions. I know, probably pretty stupid to even ask, but I know we're not the only ones dealing with the coyote problem.
  2. Not all completely accurate. You can't carry a centerfire rifle in the field during deer season, where only shot guns are permitted. Where we hunt, falls under that category. As stated, makes it tough to rid the problem.
  3. I'm fairly certain you need a trapping license to trap any animal, correct? Yes, season is open, but quite frankly, we were discussing means of removing the pack that are much quicker and more efficient, but like I said - could warrant a fine. Appropriate, or not? When, as a landowner, do you get to a point where you're tired of the nuisance?
  4. I recently got into a conversation with a buddy of mine who owns a lot of land. He puts in a lot of time, money, and effort in food plots and land management. Recently, the number of deer we've been seeing has dropped significantly. The other night, while I was out bow hunting, I saw no deer at all. While on stand, I saw four separate coyotes, and then one fawn, by itself. Fifteen minutes later, I hear a pack of coyotes (could only assume they were chasing this fawn). Coyotes are big problem on his land, and in an attempt to control the coyote population, we were discussing hunting/trapping and some other topics that could potentially put us at risk for larger fines if caught. What are your opinions, about what is going too far to control the coyote population? Anything that gets the job done? Only option that remains within the legal parameters? Thoughts?
  5. You do realize that the term 'wingnut' that you used, refers to right-wing Republicans? Most Republicans are in favor of hunting. Your definition of "wing nut" does not necessarily refer to right wing Republicans. The term "wing nut" is a derogatory term for any person who holds extreme political views.Consider it a proper description for a Liberal Democrat. Thank you. I pointed this out above, as well.

  7. Where did the rest of the conversation go?
  8. While those pictures are fine among hunters, pictures like that are some of the reasons so many people are against hunters. There's no reason to be flaunting pictures like that to non-hunters.
  9. This is a perfect example of where ethics does all of us some good. Not everyone is turned on to hunting, and it's our responsibility to 'censor' these images from people who don't necessarily care for it. For example, my wife is all about the fact that I eat, sleep, and breathe for this sport - but she doesn't want to hear or SEE the details. Be responsible in who you're showing the 'graphic' pictures to.
  10. Absolutely. Based on what I've seen in the woods, I firmly believe the chase is on.
  11. A lot of variables here, depending on what's planted in the field, location, the wind direction, etc. etc. But, as another poster mentioned - it pays dividends to try it all. Nothing is wrong with that. Deer can be very unpredictable at this point, and a lot of it is being in the right spot at the right time. A hunter can make themselves sick, trying to figure out where to sit, and then nothing shows up. Best of luck, and just have fun! ;D
  12. Headed to camp tomorrow afternoon, to hunt in the evening, Saturday, and Sunday. Also, we are opening up the cabin and getting it ready for the latter part of bow season and gun season. Just LOVE this time of year!
  13. Not sure where you're located, but the high pressure system has passed WNY, and temperatures are starting to drop back to normal temps.
  14. I don't know if you read my opening post, but there was a doe in heat on my farm on monday, October 25th. The buck and doe were seen by nearly everyone on the farm. They were bedded in an open hayfield all day. She was in heat, and unless the buck was gay, I suspect she was bred. :D
  15. I spent this entire last weekend in the woods, and saw A LOT of activity on Saturday evening. One buck tearing up trees, making scrapes, snort wheezing, another one with his nose on the ground, grunting. After this warm weather, and the cold front moving in, will this be the 'hot' weekend in the woods? It appears to be so!
