  1. This map is no where close to being accurate.
  2. Good luck to everyone! Knock 'em dead!
  3. Wel you can't come to my camp then..lol...On the menu this week is venison chili...venison meatloaf...venison goulash...venison stew......and bacon and eggs in the morning before we go out....and all the Thanksgiving leftovers next weekend......come to think of it...I should probably double up on my chloresterol meds this week Nice! I never said anything about not eating great at lunch/dinner time! Just not in the morning. Mmmm.....camp food. Gotta love it!
  4. I hunt on an empty stomach for a different reason. So that I don't have to pull up a tree! ??? Seriously though, I stay bland and simple. Keeps me regulated, and in the woods longer.
  5. My father has one of those seats. Hilarious. Bright red, all vinyl. ;D
  6. 5 in the gun (when on stand), and 10 extra shells. Ya never know.
  7. These are the best reasons I love going to hunting camp. Nothing beats coming in from a cold day in the field, and reminiscing about all of the stories of the days passed. Great times.
  8. Absolutely. I was just referring to the people who just "write off" his predictions as a way to sell "Deer and Deer Hunting" along with his yearly calendar.
  9. I find it amazing that people will doubt a man who has devoted 26 years of his life as a biologist, and spends 200 days per year in the field studying these animals.
  10. Absolutely. Just as it was early in the season when they were sucking the big one. ???
  11. They are climbing their way back out of the basement. The last 5 games, they've gotten 9 out of 10 possible points!
  12. Poor dogs. Could the D&C have found a worse picture of a coyote?!? ???
  13. I'm all about being safe and wearing a harness, but that looks like too much crap to be messing around with in a tree stand. Sometimes, too much can be dangerous. IMO, just looks like another gimmick to get people to spend their hard earned dollars on.
  14. Same here. I couldn't believe the amount of bucks I saw, compared to the few does I saw. Was very bizarre.
  15. Hey guys, Just wanted to share my seasons experiences and hear yours as well. After a long bow season, mine has finally come to an end. I saw a lot of deer during the last month. Actually, my buck to doe ratio was 15-8. Kind of odd, really. Regardless, I passed on a lot of small bucks early in the season. I saw a lot of great activity, and saw a lot of shooters, but none came within range. I think next year I will have a different opinion about passing on smaller bucks. I must say I'm disappointed with not getting a deer with my bow, but I'm also lucky to be in the woods and to experience everything I saw this year. Anyone else out there pass on deer earlier in the season, and then not end up filling your tags? Hopefully late season will produce something. Best of luck to you all during gun season.
  16. The ECO officer told me that all tree stands have to be removed at the end of the season. And again, his position on the chains is that they do indeed harm the trees if left up, and indeed, all of the stands I've come across, have been on the trees for at least 2 years.
  17. When speaking to the ECO officer, he said that chains are illegal, because as the tree grows, the chain will bite into the tree. I know, some very 'gray' areas in the what's legal and not. I also do not feel comfortable ripping down any stand. Not my job. Was just surprised to hear an officer tell me that.
  18. Spoke to an ECO officer, and word for word, he told me that because they are so limited on the area they can cover - because there are so few of them, that if I saw 'illegal' tree stands (those chained and/or bolted to a tree), that I could either tag it and call him, or rip it down myself. He explained his frustration in that they are way too understaffed, and a lot of guys that put in these 'permanent' stands are baiting the deer. Interesting.
  19. I typically use Code Blue, however this year I thought I'd give Tinks #69 a try. Have had very little luck, and the deer seem very un-phased by the scent. I had a buck walk right by my scent wick the other morning, and never even stopped to take a sniff.
  20. I hope this is the right forum to post this. I've been hunting state land a bit, and have found MANY pressure-treated built stands, that are chained to a tree, on state land. My understanding was that only temporary stands are permitted. Does anyone know what really is true, in regards to what stands are permitted on state land?
  21. Is it illegal to bait coyotes with a bait pile, and then shoot them???
