  1. It's a toss up for me. Deer in bow season, and spring turkeys, depending on the time of year. I like to hunt small game, birds, predators, and waterfowl too, but deer and turkeys have always been my favorites. I like to bear hunt, but not being able to use bait here in NY makes hunting for them specifically, a tough proposition. For me anyway.
  2. Yeah, the garden is loving it. Me, not so much. It didn't used to bother me, but I seem to like it less each year. I try not to complain too much though. In the blink of an eye, I'll be shoveling snow again. Good luck with your tomatoes, and peppers.
  3. I'm new here, and I can't speak for anybody else, but I've looked at the profiles of the people that responded to my introduction. Just to get a feel for who I'm talking to, I guess.
  4. I'm glad to hear that some of you are seeing poults, and turkeys in general. Things have been going downhill here, and from what I've read, other places around the state, for quite a few years now. This spring was the worst I've seen here around home in a long time, and I think some of it had to do with the bad winter, combined with a few lousy nesting seasons, and of course, some of the other critters that hunt them. I killed a turkey the first couple days of season, before I realized how few birds there actually were here this year. I quit hunting once I did, and felt guilty about killing the one bird. Fields that have always had at least a few birds in them each spring, were basically empty this year, I've seen 2 hens, and a tom since spring, and I haven't seen a poult. It's a sad state of affairs. I hope a combination of the new fall regs, and some drier weather during the nesting season, if we can get it, will help over the next couple years.
  5. Thanks grampy, and good luck to you too.
  6. Thanks for the welcome everybody, much appreciated. Bob
  7. Thanks greg, I appreciate it.
  8. My name is Bob. I live in northern Otsego Co. and do most of my hunting around home, but I hunt the Adirondack foothills a few times each deer season too. I live to hunt, and spend as much time in the woods as possible. I do most of my hunting with a longbow, and I'm hoping that there are a some other trad archers here too. Regardless, this looks like a great site, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
