Dick's Sporting Goods has 25% off this model today and tomorrow. I know we hate to shop there, but between the 25% discount, 5% cashback through Rakuten (Ebates), and the MIR for B1G1, it works out to be around $180 plus tax each for two. Tempting indeed, Phade's feedback/review notwithstanding.

Buckmaster talked me out of taking it to the Adirondacks this weekend, because he said that water would run off the "tucked-in" pants, into my boots during a creek-crossing. No creeks to deal with here, and I left an old barn plank to use as a bridge if necessary, next to the ditch that I got a good soaker in a few year ago. I had to ford that ditch multiple times after shooting a doe on the other side. Walking the plank with the tucked in Woolrich pants should work out fine if need be. At the very least, I will try to report back here how warm they are.

You know, as much as I want to love Cutco knives, I hate the shape of the handles (the bulge grips, or whatever you want to call them). I have a Cutco chef knife sitting in my tub of extra kitchen gadgets. I do love their kitchen scissors, though. They can cut through just about anything.

Yesterday while in the stand I noticed that the housing for the trigger assembly for my Mossberg 930 automatic shotgun was a bit "loose". I decided to get it checked out by a gunsmith. In the past, I would go to Gander Mountain/Gander World in Tonawanda, but with that location going out of business, I wasn't sure if they still had a gunsmith. i did an online search for gunsmiths near me and found Gunboat Outfitters in Clarence Center on Salt Rd. That's not too far away, so I decided to go there. Doug Payne, the owner, runs his gunsmith and machinist business in an outbuilding behind his house. I took in my gun, explained my concerned and he said "Let's take a look". He popped out the two pins that hold the trigger assembly and showed it to me. He said that there was nothing wrong, and the manufacturer allows a certain tolerance or wiggle room for the assembly. He then put it and the pins back in place. I asked him how much I owed him (Noting the sign on the wall that said minimum charge of $35.) He graciously said, "How about just a gratuity?" So I jumped on that, and gave him $10 (My wife yelled at me and called me cheap when I told her this story afterwards.)
We then started talking, and he gave me a tour of his machinist shop. I know nothing about these things, but it looked cool. I said, "I will need to find something I need for you to make for me". He said, "Well, if you have your pistol permit, I can make a single shot black powder pistol for you". He then showed me a couple of (manufacturer-made) ones he had for sale to give me an idea of what they look like. (See pics below.) I don't think I will get something like that, but the point is Doug was a great guy, and if you ever need some gunsmithing or machinist services, I would recommend that you consider him. I put all my clothes and equipment in a closed closet, run the ozone generator for 45 minutes the night before, and grab my stuff on the morning. There is some residual smell,but not bad. Just don't stand by the ozone generator when it's running.

Spypoint cell cams come with a Verizon or ATT sim card. They take care of the activation; you don't need to provide a line on your cell plan. They give you 100 medium-resolution pics per month for free. If you want high res, you need to get them off the memory card or pay an additional fee to get them over the air. Reliability in my experience has been fine. There was one time they did a software upgrade that required you to physically turn the unit off and back on. That was annoying as mine is high up in a tree. A downside to me is their cost, in terms of both the initial outlay and what happens if it gets stolen or vandalized.

So I processed my 66# (hanging weight) button buck. Spent about 3 hours Sunday morning skinning and breaking down the carcass, then about 9 hours deboning, cutting and trimming the meat on Monday. Foodsavered and weighted everything tonight. Overall, I yielded about 29 pounds of meat, or 43.7%. I can't remember my yield for past deer, but this was a little better than I was expecting for this one. I think saving the flank meat really helped. I will try the Barbacoa recipe that was posted with the flank meat.
Below is a breakdown if you are interested. Don't get too caught up in the labels, it really just comes down to the size of the chunk of meat.

Yes, you are right. Thank you for reminding me I will apply this week. I was planning on becoming a member, but didn't make the connection about going there to sight in my muzzleloader. Any idea how long the application process takes?
