I actually had a weird experience this season. I purchased an aerosol doe in heat can some how it went off in the bag i have thats attached to my climber. I tried everything to get the smell out and decided to just leave it. Well this season ive had more bucks running down the same trail i walked down, looking for the doe than i think ive seen in my 5 year career combined. And shot the biggest buck of my life while he came from down wind with his head down no idea i was there.

Be careful with the muzzy trocar hybrids I believe they are not legal in NY because they do not rotate forward like the rage do. Ive had DEC “inspect” my Rage xtreme 4 blades I assume it was for that reason. I gave the G5 a shot this year lost my first doe went right back. I do agree though a well placed arrow will kill with just about anything.

Haha thanks everyone! But yea I just wanted a rough idea he's currently at the taxidermist so I cant measure till I get him back. Each year with no success i figured it was the last time id see him and he kept showing back up on cam. Having mixed emotions about the story coming to an end.

Blind called this monster into 20 yds today. Saw him for the past 3 years with no success getting him within shooting range. Any guesses on score?

I live in Suffolk as well, I always make sure to take advantage of the bonus DMP’s. But you no longer have to bring in the head to a check station. You still can but starting I believe last year if you email DEC with a photo of both sides of the tag and I believe your hunter ID number and address they will send you another one in the mail. https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/10001.html

Now that deer season is officially over on Long Island, I am looking to plan out a spring turkey trip somewhere upstate. Being from LI I don't know much about turkey upstate, I'm looking to do a 3-4 day backpacking trip carrying all my gear/food/water in on public land. For me its more of a camping trip and less of a turkey hunt so I wont be to upset if i get skunked. I am just looking to increase my chances of getting a bird. If any one could give me any sort of info it would be appreciated! Thank you -Keith

Maps showing cities/roads and WMU overlay?

I use GAIA gps its an app but for 30 dollars a year it gives you all land owners and public lands. You can also save the place you plan on hunting and even if there is no cell service, your phone has a gps which will tell your exact location. It also does everything else that a gps can do all in a cell phone. -
Thanks for all the knowledge everyone! This photo was taken on shelter island which is on long island. It is probably one of the last places in ny to get a stable turkey population (due to the fact it is only accessable by ferry and on the very eastern tip of long island). Very cool to not only see turkey numbers growing here but also a genetic rarity.

I was very taken back by it. The thing is it wasn't as white as a normal farm bird, but it had a clear difference than the other birds. Wouldn't mind seeing a few more of them around and maybe a tom some day haha.

Has anyone ever seen a white wild turkey? It was a young hen, mostly white in color had some brown feathers too. If you look at the two other turkeys near the bottom of the photo you can see the difference in color. I was just wondering if anyone had ever seen anything like that? My first though was a hybrid, wild and farm raised turkey.

Ive never hunted outside 1C and don't plan on it, for this season at least. My dad got me into bow hunting at a young age and I'm obsessed with the challenge. I don't know if you bow hunt but 1C has deer and a lot of them. Public land is pretty scarce but not impossible to get on. Defiantly not an ideal drive for you but if you do plan on it the DEC website lists all the long island public hunting opportunities. Ive had the most as i go more east. Good luck wherever you end up! Hopefully you can fill a tag. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hit a lottery to hunt a national park right across the street from my house 100yard walk doesn't get much better than this! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a 4j I'm looking to give away. Correct me if I'm wrong thats Albany. I have no plan on hunting that area because I'm from long island. My girlfriend has family in that area, i don't even know if that tag is hard to come by but if you want it let me know! Hate to see a good tag go to waist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
