I won't be able to make opening day next Saturday. But I'm going take down my Remington model 8, which I traded  for back in 1968 for a couples days labour bucking bales of hay, and give it a thourough cleaning. If If I can't be out there then I'll be out there in spirit. Let's see what this all develops into. Wingshooting NY deer. About as much fun as a man could ever ask for. Anyone got a Remington model 8?

Don't do drives but I do have a Model 8 in .25 Remington. It was my grandfather's.

Hope you made it to Pelleteri Joe's.  Good italian food and don't ask for butter!  Lol

Never made it there. I was in college (late 90s) so didn't seek out the best places. Mostly bars and places with good happy hours. McGill's was the place I was referencing for riggi's. Just remember it being one of the best pasta dishes ever and wife and I still cook our version at home.

Good base recipe but seems like a lot of heat for sure.  Take out the heat on that recipe and use some chopped cherry peppers instead and that's about Utica style and the way i make them.  Good stuff.

Spent a couple years in Utica. My favorite riggi's place used sliced cherry peppers to provide the spice...every bite is was not spicy but when you got a bite of the cherry pepper it was there. Every place has their own take on the dish. Riggi's is really good stuff.

I live about 5 minutes from BJs but have not been yet. Been open for less than a year. How were the beers?

  5. Greeneville, NY, sitting on the corner of a ridge with my dad overlooking a hardwood flat with a creek out in front and to the right of us. I was about 10yrs old. It was cool that we could hear the deer's hoofs on the rocks crossing the creek before we could see them.  Many deer were taken off that spot until a poacher shot the farmer's dog and everyone was kicked off the property. The farm got sold and was developed into a girl's summer camp. Drove down there a few years ago and it is unrecognizable from what it was 30 years ago.

  6. My expectations are that I will see a ton of doe that I can't shoot because I won't have a doe permit (don't bow hunt); I will see a handful of spikes and four pointers that I won't shoot (self imposed, 6 point or better); I will see a couple shooter bucks out of range; my dad will shoot another 8 pointer; I will eat tag soup come second week in December; I will love every minute of spending the time in the woods with my dad.
