Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkSo Westchester is not part of the southern zone ?
From the DEC website...."The Holiday Hunt will occur in all Southern Zone counties this year"

Maybe i'm not following what you mean? Westchester has always been 10/1 to 12/31 for deer/bear. No holiday season but it always ran all of december.
I may of missed it, Westchester does not get a holiday season this year? Admittedly I've not paid that much attention. It doesn't effect me up here. I thought that if they did get the special holiday season they would gain 1 day.

I find it difficult to narrow down my list to one thing.
It may be a pair of lightly insulated bibs. Not even sure about the brand. They are stretchy. I will never by another pair of work or hunting pants again that do not stretch. Unbelievable how much more comfortable and freeing they are. Wether kneeling, climbing , or falling. Ha.ha .ha

nope. always been 10/1 to 12/31, 2 bucks whenever you want.
No holiday season? Seems strange.lol
If we are not supposed to hunt on the last day listed on the DECs dates , then I may have hunted a lot of days out of season .;)

It always showed 12/31 since the summer
They should get the 1st as well though, right?

Deer are used to certain area food sources I think. In 8N , you plant anything and they will eat it. Too much AG country in 8F so they are picky
Most likely. "His" deer probably never saw a beet or turnip in their lives, except maybe if they raided someone's garden. Pretty much all the local woods are brushy thick cover
(not like the open hardwoods I've seen a lot of in 8m, for example) we have a few fields that have soybeans or corn ,depending on the year. I'd say 100% of the deer make it to the ag fields at night. For many its a decent walk, 1/2 mile or so, they are happy to munch on his foodplots during the daylight on the way.lol

Never touched any turnips in 8F region 2 yrs in a row.. switched to soybean and they destroyed it before the first frost.
I wonder what the reasons are? Alternative food sources?

Bucks are hitting brassica plots this week now. Almost non existent previously. All at night however. These temps just are not forcing the feed bag.
It's funny how deer hit food sources differently depending on the area. A buddies brassica food plot just up the rd has been hit by the deer hard since mid Oct. Back in Oct/ early Nov they were mainly browsing the tops, now they are kicking up roots and eating them.

The closest I've been is the Bronx zoo. Kinda funny..to see animals..

30-40 miles north of Pittsburgh, in and around Morraine state park. We have a cabin at the park reserved .
We have no idea what the hunting is going to be like, but shall find out.

Nothing like a big bull screaming at you just outside of bow range. Get the right week and it’s the best hunt in NA
We are going to Colorado again this year. We are going 1 week later 9/18-26. Hopefully not as warm and no full moon this time. I cannot hardly wait..

Nice! I have a cabin booked for 7 days, starting 10/29 in PA. We will finish up our 2 week trip back in NY.
It will be the 1st year we have tried another state for whitetail.

Deer are crepescular. Most active at twilight on ether end of the day. Look at how their eyes are built and structured for low-light visibility. They see best at twilight. While we think they see well at night - they actually don't see as well as they do at twilight, but it's still much better than we see and interpret at night with our own eyes.
The reference to nocturnal is misleading in the way we see/view/interpret the rut, too. But in reality, they're crepescular. We just understand and rationalize what we want or think we see.
Look at you getting all geeky..;) I like it . I learned a new word.

Are you familiar with the VERS report? Dr MC Cullough has said one of his colleagues will pay anyone 2 million dollars to sit down and dispute his findings when the info from the VERS report is not manipulated or altered to fit their narrative ,nobody will take him up on apparently.
Do you mean the VAERS report ?

Nice! What part of Kansas ? Public land or private.
Kansas and Missouri are on my want/to do list of places to hunt.

It is not really that difficult to kill deer from ground level or certainly a lot closer to the ground than many folks seem to prefer.
True, bit if you are comfortable there is often an advantage especially during archery. During bow season I probably spend 90% of my time in a stand. During firearm season I spend maybe 33% of my time in a stand.
Depending on the area , it's nice to be quickly mobile, and there is not an to advantage being in the air.
