What about wild fire ?
doesn't it happen up there .
Or do they put them out so fast that it does not improve anything up there .

It's not a stock, it's actually a new SCR lower made by a company called Ares. It's compatible with pretty much all AR uppers and designed to comply with laws in restrictive states like NY. I like it a lot, especially since it lets me change calibers/uppers at will, but I wish it was priced a little more reasonably. My lower ran just north of $600.
They sell the whole gun like that there up there in price and every place you look says out of stock.
Look nice but
I really rather buy something in a 30 -06 cal

+1 on what TCIII said. The private land I hunt used to be about 45minutes to an hour, depending on which place I stopped at to get mt drive up coffee. Even after only hunting until noon or a bit later, it was rough driving home.
Now, that land is close to an hour and a half drive, and the only two times we got up there last season the fiancée only made it a few hours in the cold. So even heading home around 10:00AM both of us had a hard time staying awake.
I would hunt the closer area, pressure should be letting of a bit now in most areas.
Yea you are probably right the farthest I have tried to drive back from a hunting spot same day was a 2 hour drive each way years ago and it would really take a toll on you .

Depends on the class of buck. I would not drive the extra distance for a 2 year old but if the bucks are in the 3 year old plus range I am driving the extra distance especially if it has a larger amount of them.
Well let me put it to you this way my cousins also hunt the 3 hour away spot which for them is more like 4 or 5 hour drive .
Over any other place we know because it is the only place we know that we or are friends ever get your typical looking 6 and 8 pointers .
They will not even bother with the closer area . But they. Usually stay up there overnight at least .
I don't think I will be able to do that this year .
maybe I will try doing the 3 hour commute once at least see how I feel maybe get lucky on the first day up there .

I hunt 2 main areas usully one is 45 min away and the other is 3 1/2 / 4 hours away. The
45 min area gets hit hard by hunting pressure but I have a dmp for it
The 3 1/2 hour area has much less hunting pressure and a much better chance of getting a buck .
What would you guys choose if it was you and you had limited time to hunt and had to be back home that night ?
Would you take the 3 1/2 hour drive back and fourth for a better chance at a big buck .
Or play it safe and go local 45 min away and boom your hunting .

Full inclusion for anyone would take care of all that
True but it would be much easier to start by passing a law for senior citizens and disabled people first something most people agree on .
Do it in Little steps will be much easier to pass .

There is a multi million dollar industry behind everything that has to do with hunting, so why pick on the crossbow. The same people that pushed compound bows, and inline muzzleloaders are pushing crossbows by your logic. The truth is that there can only be a multi-million dollar business if hunters are very interested in buying and using the item. Hunters seem to like the idea of a crossbow in NY
They should at least make it so anyone over 65 can use a crossbow in all archery and make it easier for people with physical disabilities to just be able to get a doctor's note to use one .

I'm sure that those in the know when it comes to bear hunting have their ways, but I have always wondered just how you get a huge bag of several hundred pounds of jello with no handles, out of the woods. I wouldn't even know where to start.

I don't know but I always, got the impression that the reason you don't see much wildlife anyplace in ny state is because of human activity be it over hunting or loss of habitat even to many roads maybe .
Like in a place like the Adirondacks this could be happing
Maybe near access points there is not much deer activity because those easy places to get to have been already over hunted . Maybe
the most hard places to get to acually still have a good population of deer in the Adirondacks because very few are able or willing to go that far off the beaten trail .
All I know You go out west you see game much more frequently than around here.

It sure is lively around the Ponderosa! I didn't see anyone whining about legal shooting hours. I believe he asked why most other states do it differently. I'm not sure why NY is more dangerous, but it sure seems to be. If more daylight and blaze orange aren't the answers, then I don't have any suggestions. Have you ever considered moving Grow?
Why it's more dangerous I don't know if that's true but if it is it's because of more people in less space more then anything else . It's more likely you will die or get hurt driving to your hunting land or climbing to your tree stand then being shot by another hunter .

I never would of thought that not pushing the bullet all the way to the powder could be bad like someone early posted. Make sense with more space to build up pressure. I always made sure for accuracy though.
You would think a modern firearm would be made designed to take abuse like that at least once .

Hunting has been going down from what I have seen since the 80s or people just are not going out as much so maybe crossbows in all of archery would not effect much as we think only one way to know try it out in at least part of the state and let's see what happens. Then all of the state and lets see what happens except maybe not have them in areas of state land that are already devoid of life from over hunting .

Can't know and if I assumed I'd make an ass out of you and me.
Ok cool but since you have one Usually do the guys who use those type guns use them with a scope more then not .
I only seen a guy once deer hunting with one on state land in my life and it was scoped .
Which I'm scratching my head thinking to my self what was this guy thinking . I wouldn't be surprised if this moron was pissed off she was jogging where he hunts and took a shot in her Direction just to scare her not thinking he would hit her . At that distance .
You would be surprised how stupid people can be with firearms just look at what you see on YouTube for example .

What are you talking about?
I'm showing that a long range pistol is capable at extended ranges as some here didn't know of such handguns. Nothing more.......
Ok but did this guy have a scope on his ? Or iron sites on it .
Either way that guy was a dummy

10,000 yrs ago was a short time after the last glacial event so wildlife density was very low as plants were just getting re-established. By human hunting I assume you mean white people hunting as humans have inhabited this region, and hunted wildlife, for thousands of years.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkBefore Firearms hunting basically ..
I know at one time all or most the animals you find now only in the West lived throughout North America brown bear

I Just wonder what the wildlife density was like there before human hunting or before firearms .

I can understand hunting big woods alone. I have hunted Alaska 12 times all but two of those trips were solo and involved being dropped off by float plane in remote areas for two weeks at a clip. Packing moose and caribou on my back in grizzly country you always carry your rifle even to take a dump. Mountain goat in British Columbia backpack hunting every ounce you carry counts.
Wanting to shave weight off of a heavy gun is understandable. Usually take downs don’t help in that department they just make tha package somewhat smaller. The savage will require you to have to reset the headspace and was more so designed so that guys could swap a barrel out if they shoot a lot and wear it out. Patrick Smith of Kifaru built at one time a custom takedown built on a rem model 7 that came in at 4.5 lbs. in a short action and would have 2 barrels for it in 260 and 358 win. He was an extreme backpack hunter. The Blassers previously mentioned are a bit heavy for long walks in the woods as they were not originally designed for that type of hunting they were more for the safari guys in Africa. Might I suggest looking for a rem mountain rifle in 06 or possibly a used custom lightweight? I know you said you had a lot of ammo for the 06 but to be honest ammo is easy to sell and pre packaged ammo can be shipped through the mail. If you want to shed some weight of of a heavy gun consider switching to a short action mountain rifle maybe in 308 if you want to stay in the 30 cal range or maybe 7-08 . The availability of sub 6 lb guns opens up a lot more in the short action calibers and recoil is a joke. You don’t need as much gun as your toting to kill bear and deer. I have traveled extensively with my 7-08 and killed mountain goats and huge 350 lb plus white tails in Canada with it. My buddies wife has killed Kodak brown bear with hers. I have another good friend who has killed grizzly with his 260. Ever think about a model 7 or just something in a mountain rifle configuration?
Yes I have thought about It also thought of times snaging my rifles on branches which made me lose my footing more then once and falling because if it . And I know from experience with a takedown shotgun and 22 I own use for small game it's a he'll of a lot easier to move through thick woods and hills without having 7 to 10 ib of gun and scope a 3 and half foot long metal object hanging from your back.
I just like the versatility of them . When you hunting it's there together when done and just want get back to the road it's packed and out of the way from snagging on branches it's just so much easier to move that way and they feel lighter when carry it that way better distribution of weight.

Look into Savage arms they make a switch barrel . Just out of curiosity may I ask why you need it? I know a lot of guys like the switch barrel if hunting far and away . Some examples include Africa where one may be hunting multiple species and would want to bring different calibers or for doing a back pack sheep hunt with a long thick walk at the front end in brown bear teritory. However the thing that makes me ask is that you are only wanting it in one caliber.
Because I like big woods hunting alone walk miles from road and would like to have less bulk on me when i drag out a deer with nobody around me to help that's why . And for travel and just storage.
30-06 is because i have already boxes of the ammo for my other gun and fathers gun
Just rather stick to what I'm use to shooting .
And its just a all around good caliber

Maybe they could do full inclusion temporally at least to study the affects of it
Just to see what happens if it does not change things fine
Or pick part of the state to try it out to see what happens then if it works out include the rest of the state .
Muzzle loader blow up
in Muzzleloaders
Posted · Edited by Storm914
modern firearm are suppose to be designed to bulge when you use a hot load by mistake
Not blow up unless the guy did not notice the bulge in his fire arm and tried to use it again .
Well at least that is what the
Industry says
Thats why it is a Good idea,to inspect you guns barrel after using it .
