I think you right about politicians but I think what I said has to do with it also traditionally crossbows have been associated with poaching game .

They are Already legal for turkey and small game during bow season. Sorry but the logic just doesn’t add up. Probablys and opinions don’t add up to any type of proof. Just more sky is falling mentality.
Yea but how many guys you see hunting small game with a crossbow at 4 am or coming out of woods after dark when u can use a gun more effectively for small game already you would look suspect to a game officer they are not born yesterday . Its about deterrence . You never going to stop everything you know what I mean.

So again, I ask Why would full inclusion increase poaching. If people are poaching, they don’t give a damn about the laws, so they would already be doing it. It’s not like you haven’t been able to buy them in NY before they were legal hunting implements, and they have been legal for a few years now. Do you have any proof of full inclusion in other states that already have done it seeing an increase in poaching?
Think about it you look suspicious walking in or out of the woods with a crossbow loaded with a Broadhead if it's not in season . So that is a deterrent from people using them for poaching But if you make them legal for all of archery it makes it easier for them to use it before light with the excuse of well I was just walking in to get to my stand . When they could be going in before light or after just to jack light deer . And with know loud sound and better range of a crossbow and being able to have it cocked it makes it easier for them to get away with it . This know doubt already probably happens during archery with bows .but With crossbows if let in for all of archery it will only make it easier for pouches to get away with it . And easier to shoot and kill more deer when they do try it . As it's much easier then using a bow to do the same thing.
It's going to happen the question is how much and what the effect will be less tags maybe don't know.
But it will change things if that happens just saying .

Why would xbow increase pouching well let's see maybe because it's easier to shoot then a bow little better range makes know load noise like a gun can be held cocked like a gun with a flash light attached at night or before legal hunting hours I can see lots of that happening. You already get that now I always here guns going off before and after sunrise and sunset . With a xbow you just tempting people to do even more of that I would think at least that is what I here The people against crossbows saying . I guess they could just give less tags to account for that .
Probably not going to help the size of bucks shot in gun season either .

Why would crossbow inclusion cause more poaching to happen?
the real reason is because in this state, hunting laws have to go through the legislature, you know, a bunch of politicians that don’t know anything about hunting. Makes no sense whatsoever.
Well if that's the case we probably will never see full inclusion politicians like to get MONEY from both sides lobbyist

All my guns I got in the 90s and 80s I never did shoot them much they all still like new except for my small game guns 22lr and shot gun
And now that takes a rest to my Pcp airgun .
The reason I don't shoot the large hunting cal guns much is 1 range is 45 min drive
2 ammo gets expensive and some times hard to find
3 I want my big game hunting guns to last for ever and stay like new
4 I don't need to shoot them much I don't hunt in a place that you can see farther then 100 yards or less mostly . And any time I do shoot them once sited in shots are always on the money at that distance.
-
Hmm 175 acres if you went a expert opinion let me hunt there for a season and I will tell you what I think . Lol
Just joking maybe your neighbors have better food on there land so they stay off yours or maybe there is a lot of pouching going on around you .

Yep, the bill has been sitting in Albany for at least 2 years now. It's waaaaaaay past the DEC now.
Maybe they are worried about the extra pouching that will happen with full inclusion of crossbows .

Is there a state that has spear airgun crossbow basically anything you want tag .
Just out of curiosity what state let's you hunt with the most types of weapons ?

I once killed a big doe, that woke up after getting knocked out by a car, using a pocket knife with a 1-1/4" long blade. Now I carry one with a 1" blade, just in case an opportunity comes along to best that personal record. The key is keeping the blade razor sharp, a good half-nelson with the left arm and finding the jugular on the first cut with the right. After that, it will be bare hands I guess. The local cops appreciate not needing to use their own weapons for that job, and the extra paperwork (and sometimes embaressment) which that entails. Much of this road carnage could be eliminated, if they would just let us hunters have at those deer a bit earlier with the crossbows. In this grossly overpopulated area (9F/9A), a vertical bow is next to useless on antlerless deer, because they always travel in groups and one pair of eyes will almost always catch the draw.
52. How are you able to predict what the DEC will do ? Have you killed deer with crossbows and vertical bows ? How about Reeltime with the crossbow ?
Lacking experience with both weapons, what you say is just hearsay and adds no real value to your arguments. I have personally killed more than twice as many deer with a vertical bows than I have with a crossbow, but I also wounded a few with those that I never recovered. My shot and recovery percentage with the crossbow stands at 100%. That makes this personal with me.
Gun hunting is the most popular way to hunt and most effective. What ever they do is going to take that in account.
If you tell most hunters if they want crossbows in all archery most will say they don't care or are for it .
Now if you tell them they may get less tags or less deer during gun season .
What do you think most hunters would say ? And
That is why we don't all ready have full inclusion in archery season .
Btw I have hunted with Both crossbow and bow . I like bow better because its, lighter I don't take long shots with them . That's what guns are for . People want to take things like crossbows slap a scope on it and use it like gun it's not . I rather use a gun in fact I would rather them shorten the other seasons so I could use a gun.
Which is really what most guys who want crossbow in archery probably really want a longer gun season .
Let's be honest or people would use them in place of guns in guns season .

We got to keep whittling away. If one or two more can be convinced on full inclusion it is a step in the right direction. Sooner or later it is bound to happen. There is no point in slowing down while we have the momentum.
Just wondering how old are you ? The dec is not going to give crossbow the same season as archery if they know it's going to effect the deer take of gun season. It's that simple at least I would be willing to bet that is what they are thinking or you would have had full inclusion all ready .
And the thing about less wounded deer and bad shots from crossbows I don't think so
more then likely guys will take longer shots because they have a scope on it and you will still get the same amount of wounded deer anyway.
Anyway you can use your crossbow in regular season to so you have plenty of time to use it . If it's so great why not just use it in regular season then ?
I personally like spot stalk tracking gun hunting the best so I don't really care one way or the other .
-
I say let people hunt with what ever they like as long as the amount of deer taken in the archery season does not change much if it does then it's a problem then you have to either change or shorten the season because as it is by gun season it's already slim pickings .

Just for everyone's DYK, there is NO way to report a Xbow harvest. It's either gun or bow (or ML). Can't assume just because a harvest was reported within Xbow's 2 week season (SZ), it was not a vertical bow kill!!!! So... the DEC will never know how Xbow useage has influenced the harvest numbers until they change Decal system to include Xbow as weapon of reported harvest. Just saying...
I see a lot of parallels with OP's included story and what happens on this forum every time the word "crossbow" is mentioned.
Good point but I think they could get a idea by using pre crossbow year data .
If there were x amount of deer taken pre crossbow in bow season and now there are 2x more . It's a safe bet to assume crossbow have effected the deer take numbers . If nothing else has changed .
But a better way is to have separate tags as you have said . You would think.

i'm curious about something. who here is against full inclusion but would be fine with simply lifting restrictions of maximum draw weight and minimum axle-to-axle requirements that prevent hunters from using some of the newer recurve or compound crossbows that are out now?
As long as it does not effect negatively on the deer population I could care less what people use . I'm assuming the reason archery season is longer is because the success rate is much lower then gun season or muzzle season .
So if dec stats show full inclusion is not going to make much difference who cares .

Posting a magazine article from a writer that told of his actual real life experiences when he first wrote about trying a crossbow and the backlash he received from his readers and friends is "manufactured" friction!
Have you read your posts? Are they not the same old tired arguments you have always used? Does your continued bantering and divisive garbage give you a thrill?
Anyone can obviously comment anywhere in this forum they choose. But to constantly troll every discussion about crossbow inclusion is about the same as a Cowbow's fan going into a Giants bar and and talking trash about them ever day. It appears the ones on this forum that truly carry on the discord are the ones that constantly hijack any thread that promotesIt all depends if DEC sees a big jump in deer take I guess .
If they don't see a difference then why not .
-
I'm guessing you mean Rome New York
-
I think it will not make much difference in deer take and if it does they can always change it back. I find crossbows to be heavy and awkward to carry around the woods with me I personally rather carry a bow.

Hunters did it to themselves...over 20 years of hassles, words, nasty phone calls...Oh and love this talking about it on here,a hunting site, and getting dumped on by more than a few on how I was the bad neighbor. Well last night after 20 + years and they FINALLY. made their first call to ask for permission to recover. What they got was an OK and another neighbors phone number. Now if they do ..because I'd planned on hunting there anyways this morning I'll offer to get the Gator to get the deer out. Should I see they found it. It's a hell of a drag up hill.....All it took was a simple call...20 years I have been saying it.....So when you act like idiots you get treated like one...Because of 20 + years...nearly being shot several time..daughter nearly shot...I would NEVER give permission for anyone to hunt my land...I actually don't like hunters, most talk out both sides of their faces..If nothing else the internet taught me that...just being honest....
I can't say I blame you I let one guy fish off my property one time next thing you know. I had trash beer cans all of the place . He denied it but it started to happen soon after I gave this guy permission more then likely if it was not him it was one of his friends who new nobody lived there all the time .so they took advantage. If I ever give permission to anyone again not likely , but if I did I would tell them up front you responsible for any trash that I find here . If I find anything wrong anything you out of here . No excuses no second chance .

20$ an acre may be fair but my point is 20$ an acre isn't near enough money to make it worth the hassle and I would be willing to bet that I'm not the only landowner that feels that way.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI think if it's a,land that the landowner lives on he is not going to want strangers near his home hunting even for $40 a acre .
So that rules out a lot of land out there I think I know near me its almost impossible to get a lease and the ones
There are they want $$$$$ much more then $20 acre .

$20/acre is pretty fair. Your land may be worth more than that to you, but not on the market. State shouldn't subsidize. Merely act as a relationship maker in some capacity. Maybe a private entity could as well, there may be a market for it bigger than the current lease sites, which seem to never have land available at least not in my neck of the woods.
I know it's free market but for me 20 /Acre is to high to pay for a lease in the blind unless I new for sure there were some really big racks on that property.
Especially since usually hunting leases are always far away from me .

Be it bow, crossbow or gun
Bad shots from deflection or panic or wind or acts of God will happen to even the best of hunters . Its hunting nothing is 100% guaranteed.. you just have to try to use your best judgment and don't try taking shots that you know you can't make. Or don't practice at .

I'm out of state for a week o so but when I get back it will be either my trusty 25 yeae old rem 1187 or rem 700 in 30-06 depending on location I will be hunting that day . Usually that means shotgun.

Again, some spots of land are low on bucks because the hunters there are fighting over scraps as it is. Many will be happy as a clam to even take a single doe, so more restrictions mean lowering their odds of a harvest even further. Now that this year I've been on private land and I have seen what it can be (see deer every time I hunt) it is shocking to me how hard the land I hunted prior two years was to pull deer out
Had same experience
Maybe they could do a lottery in some sections of state land like other states do . Seems like they could do more for the hunters that are willing to pay more but not on the level of going and buying there own land just for hunting .
I think they have done a lottery thing In one local park in western ny if I'm not mistaken . Don't remember the name or details about it though .
But I remember reading people saying they pulled out some big bucks out of there when they did that .
A cool gun with a cooler story on why it's mine.
