  1. Legality will hinge on how each state words it's definition of what constitutes a ML.  If it includes anything about the propellant being loaded from the muzzle it will be illegal until the legal definition is reworded.  When BP substitute first came out it was not legal for hunting in some states because their legal definition of a ML used the words "black powder" without the words "or equivalent".

The other challenge I see is that if this doesn't "catch on", these FireSticks will be like the Knight discs.

and if you go to AT, you'll see these aren't all they're cracked up to be. None the less, the archer still needs to draw and hold at a range typically under 40 yards. This is not the case for the crossbow. Adding electronic self adjusting optics/scopes to crossbows really start to push the limits of calling them "archery equipment" don't you think?

I cannot disagree with you at all.  Vertical bow is more difficult/challenging than xbows.  When DEC created shotgun areas, they were thinking smooth bore and pumpkin slugs.  This has advanced to rifled barrels and high performance sabot ammo, "pushing the limits" and they are still included.  When DEC created ML season, they were thinking BP and round ball.  This has advanced to smokeless powder and sabot bullets, "pushing the limits" and they are still included.  When DEC created archery season, they were thinking traditional stick and recurves.  This has advanced to compounds and high let off, "pushing the limits" and they are still included.

IMO, the underlying argument against xbows is the concern that the woods will be flooded with more hunters during "archery" season; and not some other reason.

Deny ? the media is rigged against the right and also lies about the science if the science goes against  the lefts  political  positions .  lots of deny to go around .

The corona virus and COVID19 is a medical issue, not political.  That is the simplicity of infectious disease, it does not discriminate along any lines. It infects any and all humans it can.  The politicizing of it (like everything) may be the biggest problem for this country in managing it.

I surely do not trust everything China says about the COVID situation in their country at the moment, but please post some sort of evidence from any reputable source that their situation is anywhere close to what ours is right now?  I have no doubt that it's nowhere close.  We are doing worse than freaking India for crying out loud.  For a country like ours that is supposed to be an "advanced" nation our numbers are pathetic any way you want to look at them.

Comparing USA to China or India is actually not a valid comparison.  China does not have a free press while we do.  Our press/media will publish anything no matter how damaging it is to our country.  In fact our press/media overly reports gloom and doom over positive stories.  China press will not; and in fact will do the opposite.  History has shown that.  During the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the 1980s China declared that they had no cases and that this was a Western disease.   I have nothing to post one way or the other because there is no good data that can be trusted at this time.  India does not have a developed healthcare system like the USA.  We will have many many more documented COVID cases and deaths because we are testing for it and recording it.  India does not have the infrastructure or resources to do the same.  The more fair comparisons, and these too have limitations and pitfalls, is with European countries that have similar free press and similar developed healthcare infrastructure and resources.

I don't think China ever denied its existence.  Hell, they pretty much put everyone in Wuhan under house arrest to stop the spread and it sure looked like it worked for them.  Wearing masks to stop the spread of colds and flu in countries like China, Japan, Korea has been the norm long before COVID.  We on the other hand are definitely deniers and all we care about is ourselves and could care less if we might spread it to someone it might kill.  We even had a president who fanned the flames of ignorance.  We consider something as simple as wearing a mask in public as an infringement of our freedom, so what more can we expect than to have this pandemic rage on for close to a year now while China where it originated seems to have things under control.

You're first and last sentence I do not agree with and the words " We on the other hand are definitely deniers".  The rest is all valid.    First, initially China did deny its existence.  They were "hiding" it from WHO and other countries and denying the international reports of it.   Only after it was irrefutable they acknowledge it.  Remember too, they arrested the doctor who brought it to the government's attention!  Second, China "seems to have things under control."  That is precisely what the great PROC wants the world to think and believe.  They are a communist propaganda machine of their superiority that can not be believed or trusted.  Lastly, we are a mix of believers and deniers.  China probably too.  The difference is we have individual liberty and they do not, so they will appear to be in patriotic lock step while following their government recommendations and mandates.

When my wife was going to physical therapy for shoulder pain, they used a CBD cream on her. She thought it worked so well, she bought some from them. I’ve since developed shoulder and arm pain (suspected torn rotator cuff) and have been using it. I don’t think it helps me at all! Then again, nothing much did, not even Vicodin, oxy, or codine (and/or booze). Had a Cortisone shot, that seems to be helping after ~10 days.

You have an injury with inflammation.  The Vic, Oxy, Cod only address pain, not inflammation. The cortisone shot addresses the inflammation but not the pain. An NSAID like ibuprofen or diclofenac addresses both pain and inflammation.  This is the more appropriate medication for you condition if you are a suitable candidate for treatment with an NSAID.

Can we just do what china did ? They didn't need a vaccine.

We already do a lot of what China does right on this thread.  Deny it exists, deny science, deny it is pandemic, regurgitate fake news and propaganda....and as long as you live and believe in that bubble/world you don't need a vaccine.

If you had Instagram I would send you hundreds of real videos (not media) of people I personally know in Florida at bars and restaurants. There’s no masks and no social distancing

...and in science this would be called anecdotal evidence.  It is of zero/no value in comparing NY to FL regarding mask wearing and social distancing.

It depends when and where you are hunting. I tend to sit all day as I know multiple drives are going on ! WEAR LOTS OF BLAZE ORANGE!

Agree it depends where and when you are hunting.  Regarding the public land: I prefer to move and cover ground.   Appreciate there has been 3 months of bow hunting already (plus small game hunting) and by day 2 of the firearm (shotgun/ML) season the deer are on high alert and well aware they are being aggressively hunted.  Many bucks will have already shed their antlers and if you do get one with antlers DO NOT drag it by them.  Lastly, there is a contingent of locals/regulars that like to act/behave like this is their private property (example "don't shoot shed bucks or big does that could be shed bucks").  Ignore their attitude and don't be intimidated.

i'm sorry but the medical companies and the government have some seriously sinister partnerships . Big business and government have one thing in common ,they're only worried about themselves.

"Seriously sinister partnership"?  Medical companies are regulated by the government. This is not a partnership; it is a healthy adversarial relationship that benefits patients/citizens.  I cannot argue against your second comment.

Right we could lock people inside like China did.  Why do you think the US has struggled worse with this?  I think a vaccine might help us the most. Being a free country is great and choice is great. I just hope enough people choose to take it so that the reason it goes down is from the vaccine and not the people with weaker imune systems paying the price.

Interesting comparison.  China is a country that puts personal liberty second to the country greater good.  The population, brainwashed or culture or otherwise, puts the country before themselves.  An argument could be made that patriotism plays a role.

  12. This is a great example of why it is hard for the DEC to manage the NYS herd and for hunters to not judge each other or put your standards on others.  Public versus private land, old growth forest, new growth forest, farmland, suburbia, access/opportunities, deer densities, herd structure, local capacity, hunter pressure/densities, gun versus archery only areas, DEC DMU harvest goals, etc etc etc.  All different throughout this state geography.

These tags way back when were the best. 1/2 on deer and 1/2 mailed in. Check in stations and mailing back unused tags would halt a whole bunch of the taking of illegal bucks. Most of which are younger bucks.

Back then was no better than today regarding hunter behavior.  In fact, it may have been far worse.  Even though it was "drop in the mail" reporting versus telephone/online reporting many people just still did not do it.  I do not believe check in stations and mailing back unused tags would halt a whole bunch of the taking of illegal bucks either.  Unethical & illegal hunter behavior, just like criminal behavior, cannot be changed by legislation, rules, and regulations.  Those exist for prosecution/punishment after the fact.

You think there are top 10 whitetails killed and not entered? with all the $ out there and fame for shooting a top 10 whitetail? no way. unless they were illegally killed. You're talking about a 195-200" + typical killed with a bow. Extremely rare

One other exception than illegal kills are those killed on the deer farms/factories (which are ineligible).

Didn't they (meaning governor) find a way to tap into those funds - Like the lifetime licenses. I remember them somehow tapping into them and using the money for other than hunting or wildlife causes.

There is nothing to tap into.  NYS does not have dedicated funds.  DEC license money is not earmarked for DEC.  If DEC has surplus money, it does not have to go to DEC.  All NYS taxes, fees, licences, etc money goes into the state general coffer and the Governor decides what and how much to fund with the budget.

From what many here spend on ,land, leases, atvs ,  clothes  , cameras , on top of guns , glass and bows ,I’d figure most would be ok with $500 licenses if that’s what’s needed to, properly fund the DEC .

The problem is licenses do not fund the DEC.  In NYS there is a general coffer where all money goes.  No money is earmarked for specific places or uses.  Recall NYS was going to close the pheasant farms and stocking because there was no money in the state budget to cover the costs.  The NYS small game hunters proposed a pheasant stamp with fee and all that money to go to the pheasant program.  The governor refused that and "got" the money somewhere else.  The governor would be thrilled to raise hunting licenses to $500 annually but the money will never be earmarked for DEC or hunting.  It would most likely get spent on his pet projects.

Mandatory check stations and mail in of unused tags would help the cause big time.

...and ALL of this will require DEC resources ($$$).  Are you willing to pay more for your license(s)?  Do you trust the Governor to increase license fees only enough to cover this or excessively to be another revenue stream for the states general coffer?  History has shown it will be the latter!  Be careful what you wish for in NY because the Governor is not interested in hunting and views everything as an opportunity to get more of your money.

Taking a shot that they say will not stop you from getting it. Not stop you from giving it and is only 70-90% effective?                                             The survival rate of the virus itself higher?

Not one credible healthcare professional has said "the vaccine will not stop you from getting COVID19".  The three vaccines available are 95%, 94%, and 70% effective.  The survival rate of COVID19 is just one measure to consider.  Both the flu and COVID19 are killing people and preventable, that is why vaccination is advocated.

Local nurse here had the shots, now has Covid ...

im sure this is not the norm but no shot for me thank you ! Not this soon

To get COVID19 you have to be infected by the virus itself.  The vaccine is NOT injecting the virus.  There is no way the vaccine gave her COVID.  In fact, she was almost certainly exposed and contracted the virus, by her profession, prior to getting the vaccination.  Unfortunate timing for her that she did/could not get the vaccination earlier.

Funny how people who can't complete a sentence are suddenly infectious disease experts. And fer that matter I don't need no Bill Gates Micro chip put in me!!!

exactly , thats why i listened to the experts and got the vaccine.  And if Bill Gates needs to know i go to work and home everyday then to the lake or hunting on the weekends i guess he must be pretty bored. lol

There is no need for a micro chip in the vaccine.  We all already "voluntarily" allow ourselves to be tracked via our cell phones, GPS devices in our cars, credit/debit cards, ATMs, EZ Pass, all the security cameras, etc.  If you believe the vaccine has a micro chip in it, I know a bridge for sale in NY that includes land that only has B&C bucks on it!

Yes nonresidents can buy green key cards but can’t purchase county archery permits. Green Key Cards are used for many different things not just hunting. So a nonresident can buy a green key in order to purchase the 4x4 permit or to use to make camping reservations

Thanks for clarifying.  As a non-Suffolk county resident I was told some years ago in no uncertain terms that Suffolk Country Park deer hunting was for residents only; and like in all things NY it appears the residents have ridiculous rules/bureaucracy  to follow.
