  1. Until 5 years ago I was a Brown and down Hunter. Being on the PA border area and seeing what the antler restrictions have done for PA has changed my thinking some. I have spent most of my life hunting high pressure areas that rarely see older bucks survive. For the past several years I have passed smaller bucks in archery season waiting for something bigger. That being said, I can not remember a year that I didn't get a doe in the freezer. Some years I have literally filled my doe tag on the last days of muzzleloader season, multiple times in the last 30 minutes. Last year was my best year for deer sightings and I have to admit that just seeing the amount of deer was as much fun as harvesting them. A "trophy" is very much dependant on the person harvesting the deer. This will be my 28th season in the woods and have never shot a buck larger than a 5 point. The last 5 years, I am the only person in our hunting group who hasn't harvested at least an 8 point. My one buddy who is fortunate enough to take 3 weeks of vacation during the peak rut has harvested a mature buck for each of the last 5 years. Last year, I was the only one of us to not harvest a buck. My time will come..... Hopefully this year. Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk
  2. Nice, they don't get that big without being smart!
  3. Is that buckwheat in that mix? Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk
  4. I had seen that planted brassica more than two years in a row can cause problems with the soil. Some kinda fungus. Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk
  5. Or does anyone have any other suggestions for seeds to plant on wet/swampy ground Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk
  6. Same here, have found that over 25 yards the incidents of misses, problems increase substantially. Pretty much everyone in my hunting group, same thing. 20-25 yards tops.
  7. I used to be about 15 years ago. I make my living as a paramedic and am active in local volunteer fire department. I started using the name a long time ago and just kept it.
  8. Hey everyone, Name is Scott. Grew up and lived my whole life in Chemung and Tioga counties. Been hunting for about 28 years. Deer and ducks are my passion. Joined for some networking to learn and share experiences. I have lerked on here several times in the past, figured I would make it official.
  9. Looking to see if anyone has planted balansa clover? Trying to reclaim some fallow property, marginal soil, holds water during wet conditions like this year. I have researched a lot of annual clovers and this seems like it may help build my soil but not sure of results in our climate. My plan: I have no equipment, all I do is no till/broadcast. I figure on two years of planting an annual clover in the spring, burning it off with round-up and a prescribed burn in late summer with two fall plantings of tillage radish and turnips. My hope is the annual clovers will add organic matter and the brassica plating will help aeriate the soil and improve drainage. My hope is to improve the PH and drainage over this 2 years so a clover/chicory blend can survive. Thoughts? Suggestions?
