Head over to the lakeontariounited.com classifieds. Many more items are bought and sold from this site, and it is also a fishing site. You should find someone with some DR weights available fairly quickly.

My take is they are are individuals with different temperments and life experiences that have shaped how they react to certain situations. A six month old deer that hasnt been through a hunting season yet is probably going to act different than deer that has been pushed around or shot at before. All depends on what each deer perceives as danger.

JGS Whitetail Challenge thread
JGS replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in 2014 HuntingNY Whitetail Challenge
11/18/14, 7J, 8pt, after royally blowing a chance on a different 8 pt opening day I got back at it and got him at 30 yards. -
80 yards with the bow is a little outside of my effective range.
-
I would have loved to have stayed on stand all day to find out what he would have done on his own but 11 am came and I had to go.
-
So I shot a doe today at about 9am that had a 3 pt following her the whole way in. She went about 80 yards and tipped. About 20 minutes later I looked over my shoulder and there was a good buck pacing around the small thicket where the doe went down. I thought he had left but then about ten minutes later saw a deer rear end bedded right on the edge of the thicket through my binoculars. It was the buck bedded and I tried grunting, snort wheezing, rattling, and doe bleats but nothing made him move. Finally, close to two hours later I had to help the farmer do some work so I got down and tried a stalk but ended up bumping other deer and saw his white flag bound away into the brush. I found my doe and noticed that the bucks bed was within arms reach of her. I figure she was close to estrous and he could smell it and was just hanging around waiting for her to wake up. Has anyone ever seen this before? You can see the matted leaves between me and the doe where he was bedded.

JGS Whitetail Challenge thread

11/10/14, 7J, Doe, had a 3 pt nudge her past me at 15 yards. -
I wish!!! j/k never touch the stuff! But seriously I'm just wondering if this was written in for farmers to protect crops or some other reason.
-
Agreed, should never have to worry about unnecessary dangers. Serious question, do you know what the DEC's definition of cultivating is? i.e. land within a farm or only in crops?
-
Well no sh*t, thank you, never seen that one before, guess i skipped over it, good to know.
-
And that's fine, if they get out of their car and harass your animals or step foot on your property, then believe me, I think they deserve even more than a talking to. That would also be incredibly frustrating and mind boggling to me also. All I'm saying is you have no right to tell other people what they can and connot do on a public road if it does not affect your property in any way. Think of it this way, I hate when people ride their bikes in traffic, however, I have no authority or right to tell them to get the * out of the way if they are using the road legally.
-
Not bitching, just pointing out that you have no control or say over what people look at when they drive down the road. I agree 100% that if you catch someone tresspassing there should never be any lee way given, I agree.
-
That is intersting, I've never heard or read that before. Is this tucked away in the game laws somewhere? Just wondering because I'm 99% sure it isn't in the gen reg guides.
-
The answer to your question, yes, because that would be something that was legally mine. I paid for it, it was not there until I put it there, and it will not walk off my property under its own power. Again if someone drives by during the day and stops to look at a deer on your land would you be upset? As far as the spooning, if I want to do that inside my living room I have every right to do that as well, but if I leave the curtains open and someone drives by and sees, then I feel sorry for that unlucky soul, but it is what it is. Nothing illegal or immoral done by that driver.
-
You are correct but if it were yours when it was on your land, there would be no season and no license purchase made to the state in order to "do with as you please." I understand completely the arguement made but at the same time you cannot tell people when and where they can look at wild game while they are on public ground(road).
-
Just asking: How is spot lighting not moral or not right? Do you get upset or concerned when people look at "your" game when they drive by during the day?
-
Who has a waist of money, I'd sure like to meet this person with a money waist. j/k j/k. I can't justify spending the money on it either, but if I was buying one I would listen to someone who had actually used the thing first.
-
You would be correct. Then again they didn't have modern archery equipment, rifles, modern camo clothing, binoculars, plastic grunt tubes, farmed deer scents, metal tree stands, or a pickup truck to throw the deer in to get it home to their families. So why do you use all these things? Just another tool my friend.

I don't think he is getting defensive. I think he is just trying to say don't listen to nay sayers who have no experience with the product. I'm sure most of you have experienced as a child when your parents tried to feed you something new and you said "no its gross," then they would say "just try it," and you'd say "no its gross." Now some years later you've tried it and actually love it, we've all done it. Its kind of the same idea here. "Don't knock it until you try it." With that being said, Lucky- come back after more than a few weeks of using the machine and give us your thoughts.
