  1. Didn't get out for bow except for last day saw momma and 2 little ones - passed em by. hunted opening day gun saw 3 does and 1 pretty good buck - no shots. Went out Sunday - walked out back door - 2 does in the yard under the apple trees. head to my stand shaking my head. Saw nothing while hunting. Come back - again 2 does in the yard. Monday rained all day. NOW Yesterday...worked in am and headed out to my stand about 1pm. Was still hunting my way up when i went around this pine tree and there in the opening was a dead 8 point deer with 1/2 its side skin blown off, innards intact. rolled him over, small bullet hole on entrance side. Called DEC and waited for them to come to file a report. They lopped the head off and gave me a tag so I could give the meat away to a guy i know thats out of work BUT the butcher said it was no good (Thought it was no good but gave it a try). Needless to say, the afternoon was shot and by the time DEC left it was about 10 after 4 - no hunting. In 40 years of hunting, I never came across a shot and left/lost deer. I'm guessing since no one really hunts by me (all private land) that one of our local road hunters/poacher shot it. the entrance wound was low, exit high meaning the deer was shot from downhill which would be the road most likely. Shame!

  2. I have had a projector set up in my entertainment room for many years with a 100" screen. They are cool as heaven. Watch movies, tv, and use the ps3 with it when bored. Replaced my 1st bulb a few months ago. Still have a 63" tv in the room since the projector runs video out of my a/v receiver. I'm lazy like that.

  3. Ammo still flying off the shelf. I ordered a case of 233 62 gr hp last sunday from targetsports. At the time, they had 20 cases in stock not to mention the 99+ cases they had of the fmj and 56gr 223 in stock. When i checked the following day .. sold out of it all.  Holy smokes !

I finished the hookup and it seems to work ok in the barn.   I won't find out how it works in the water for a few more weeks.  It sure is quiet compared to the old Huminbird flasher.   I know I will love that part at least.   The screen looks like it will be a lot easier to read in the bright sunlight, which was always an issue with my old flasher also.  The GPS is going to take some getting used to.  I suppose that will still work without the transducer in the water (it will only be in when my trolling motor is in action).   It seems to have a pretty user-friendly menu.

If I like it, I may get another with a portable kit to use on a canoe, kayak, or rowboat.  There are a fleet of of those up at my in-laws place in the Adirondacks.  I also just picked up a 12 foot Sears gamefisher aluminum rowboat, for use around home.  It looks to be in good shape and I got a great deal on it (same price as the Garmin Striker-4).  I have always wanted to try Hemlock lake.   If and when I get around to registering the "new" 1979 rowboat, I might give it a try.   My 1956 5.5 Evinrude ought to be legal there, but I would probably go with my older Mercury 5, since it runs 40:1 oil mix ratio compared to 16:1 on the old Evinrude.   I don't care for much extra "complexity" in my brew.  It would be cool to fish the lake where the primary ingredient of my favorite beverage comes from (thats the "Geneseecret").

I still find it hard to see in bright conditions. Also i get a warning to power off if transducer is not connected.  I took some thin aluminum to make a sun shield for it.
