A little bit of everything outdoors... including NJ/NY Metro Jeep Owners!!!

Thanks guys! Thanks, it was awesome! Coolest thing is the one guy got to send the link to his mom and dad in Florida, they love fishing and it was a nice mothers day present for his mom!
-
Thank you!

After having no luck in the morning turkey hunting, our luck changed in the afternoon for trout!
-
I guess everyone interested has something to look forward to next turkey season... thought I would post a video showing how much fun crossbow hunting for turkeys is...

Thought it was now part of "bow"???
-
Who is going to hunt turkey with the crossbow?
-
I was just kidding... and exactly the point I was getting at, you can argue what sport is better... really, a free college education from any sport is a home run! lol... and the debate can go on like this thread... and at the end of the day, just enjoy what you like and what fits you best!
-
IMO, T-Ball is a big mistake, lacrosse is the sport to play in the spring!

I posted 3 videos of hunters taking their "firsts". The young lady I did take earlier with the vertical bow and she shot awesome on paper... but after unloading her quiver on deer out of a blind, I had her practice with the x-bow and she was successful as seen in the video with her first shot out of the x-bow. My point with her and I see it at the hunter ed classes etc... dads (the young lady was not my daughter, friend of my buddy) are taking their young daughters and sons out with the crossbow first! Lets face it, it is an awesome option, nice fall weather with a youngster with minimum poundage that they struggle to get back or hand them a cocked crossbow with over 100 LBS of KE? I see it a lot in NJ and I think it is awesome, the young lady I took was frustrated with the vertical and the x-bow put her on top of the world! Saying she is hooked is an understatement and she is still looking to work hard on her vertical... so really, I think it can be a stepping stone for beginners, like I said in the beginning of this thread, same thing with my son, he is an experienced deerslayer now, the x-bow built confidence/experience and he is now looking to take his bow hunting to the next level with the vertical this coming season.

Sure! Got an extra drink if you need?
-
Thought I would join ya... pass the salt please!

Thank you, exactly, the youngsters that could not draw heavy poundage or young girls wanting to get out with dad/mom and the family during bow season now can use a crossbow and hunt too. That is okay because like said above, younger hunters will be more involved... as much as it will hurt you to accept it, I have seen more youth and women hunters taking their hunter ed tests in NJ with crossbows... try to think outside the box or just deny all you want and continue to whine...
-
There is a medium for hunters in the crossbow... some find vertical bow hunting difficult and some don't like gun hunting... the happy medium.
-
You are wrong... I did not say they are against elderly/disabled, I am saying that they are the only ones that they feel should be hunting with them. Here are newbies now hooked... and they were not "gun hunters" like you say! Young lady and her first awesome buck! This is my cousin, he got frustrated with the bow, got him out with the crossbow and now he is hooked... he never got into gun hunting! Fail?
-
Funny, I was like you... totally against them at first... then I tried it... My son told me he wanted to get into bow hunting right before the season, first I got him shooting my recurve trying to build his bow muscles and also got him shooting my crossbow. With the season around the corner, we decided the crossbow was the best for his confidence at that time... in the video above, you can see the confidence and quick ethical kill shots... he took 3 shots at deer and not one deer ran over 80 yards! He never hunted before... but the cool thing about it is, his confidence and experience... he is now looking to move from the crossbow to the vertical this coming season! Think outside the box... I was against it at first and then saw the light!
-
Congrats NY!!! Sad that a number of vertical guys don't like this and give that disabled/elderly garbage... hey, but it is okay for fit/young people to hunt with shotguns and rifles... look outside the box, crossbows will add people to the hunting side... PERIOD! Also, I have been bow hunting for over 30 years and have taken plenty of newbies out with their vertical bows... I have also taken newbies out with crossbow for their first hunts... what I have found is that crossbows build confidence and success quicker! Successful hunters means more hunters hooked on... hunting! We all win! Congrats!!!

Thanks Paula, yes, the ground hunts in this video are not over bait... before bait and trail cams, you scouted and saw where the deer came into the clover fields... really, were you seeing where they came to the bait field? I used to hunt an apple tree at one of my spots before baiting was legal... was that the bait tree? Or was it hunting? Today with trail cams, who needs bait? All a corn pile on a deer trail does is stop the deer for the perfect shot scenario, kinda like that deer in the clover field when it puts it's head down broadside, it's makes for a quick ethical kill! My sons first buck, not over bait... bet some verticle bow guys would say... man, with a crossbow??? But if it was a rifle or shotgun, that would be okay! Hunters just need to take a deep breath and be happy we are one against those that want to take away hunting PERIOD! No food bait in this hunt... but the doe bleat and grunt call was baiting?
-
Baiting in NJ has only become legal recently... had no problems before it was legal taking deer... with that said, there are towns in NJ where the deer population is out of control and the towns are opening up parks to hunters and are issuing special permits to reduce deer/car collisions and residents are complaining because expensive landscaping is being destroyed. So I am in a local town program that screens hunters and you have to take a number of deer to stay in the program, permits are limited and they give hunters a quota because they want the hunter to reduce the numbers and not just take a spot and trophy hunt... so, I am in this program, I bait and reduce the numbers and last year I donated 8 deer to Hunters Helping The Hungry, sounds like a win for the township residents and those in need had healthy venison at the food banks... is that really about being the greatest hunter? I just happen to bring a camera and I am having a great time with my hobby!

Video: GoPro Hero3 Bow Hunting Footage
TheFieldArcher replied to TheFieldArcher's topic in Bow Hunting
The doe at 1:49 was not a yearling... at 3:05 was a yearling and that was my cousins first deer. But with that said, I do prefer the younger ones and donate the older/bigger ones to the food bank (HHH). Last year I donated 8 deer, but I kept the young tender ones! lol One of my donation hunts is in this video: -
Here is an all GoPro Hero3 footage video, anyone interested in this camera can get a good idea of the quality. They are not very good in low light and you can see the difference in the video. The remote works good, not great... it is a little touchy in temps below 32. Make sure you head out with the batteries fully charged, especially on the remote and make sure you shut off the Wi Fi when not in use or your batteries will lose power. Great secondary camera and I would not use it as my only camera, get a camcorder with 25X or better for single camera use, today you can pick up a very good quality HD camcorder for under $400.00.

I just put this together with deer and predator bow hunts, some of my best footage shots... I hope you enjoy it!
-
I think they were her offspring because the other doe swatted at the one... but there were more deer all around that didn't come through yet, I am in a township program in NJ that has no bag limit on doe and runs Sept to Feb 15th!!! They are trying to cut down on the deer/auto collisions and landscaping damage in the area...

You ever have that one doe that always seems to have your number? She just always seems to know? Well, I finally had a strong wind in my face... she actually stopped on my path that I walked when I set up my GoPro, even after spraying down! And looked right in the stand after checking the ground... she was a very smart girl... but the steady wind gusting to 25 MPH in my face was not in her favor on this day!
