growalot
I made a home made hang on for camp but well I'm not thrilled about camp right now so brought it home...I have one down there I made years ago and took my first rifle deer from it and some nice doe..any how ..I finally got it set yesterday over the radish planting and 60 ft off the trail where the deer go into the hemp/soybean/ bracc plot...200ft from a water hole...along pines and near the apples...I do have to remove a couple of fence stakes..not thrilled about them being under me It's nailed to the tree at 6 seperate spots and has 4 ratchet straps as back up...Even though its set in a Y of a tree...my back drop are wht pines...so my back is covered...it's 13ft to the platform...that's all the ladder I had...lol.. deerpassion
now that's some ingenuity right there... how much did the thing cost ya all said and done with the wood, hardware, and the four ratchets? seems like it mighta been cheaper just to by a moderately priced hang on? growalot
Family is in construction...so all wood was free scrapes...the nails a few dollars...the 2x6 deck hangers I think 3.00 and change each the chains 6.00...eye hooks 3.00 each...ladder was a OSHA throw out.....Rachets I had around the house...and are removed after season so not counting...maybe 25-30 dollars I'd be hard pressed to find a commercial hang on with a platform that big... wdswtr
I built a few of them when I was younger. Pretty similar to yours. The problem I had they arent so much portable after the first time trying to hang one up. They are heavy lol. There is still remanace of one in a cherry tree from about 20 years ago when I hung it up.
growalot
Your rt. not portable...and I did nail her in ...but if any thing happens to the tree...it's more recoverable....I attached a pulley and then took the sm JD out and pulled it into position...ratcheted it on then went to work nailing....rolled it out in a wheel barrel ...learning to let equipment do most of the work...lol
