Landowner
I have some plots on my land. I'm not sure to fertilize for the fall and winter or do I just broadcast some lime? Then in the spring do the opisite. Landowner
burmjohn
Thats a good question. Lime can't hurt, as it takes a few months to really penetrate the soil. I'd love to hear from some of the more experienced food plotters on this one. I guess it would be best to do a soil test to see what you need first though. thetrick
Do not go in it blind get a soil test and see what you need for nutrients... If it calls for lime, N, P, K, or Micros then make sure you apply then between now and mid fall before microbes in the soil shut down due to cold temps. erussell
If your plants are starting to yellow they are missing something, but your look nice and green, you might not have to worry about it.
thetrick
Remember feed the soil do not feed the plants... Maintain the soil nutrients for what the soil test calls for. By following a soil test you will be doing two things; one not exceeding an overload of nutrients that will later just run off or leach into the environment. Second you will be applying nutrients exactly what your soil needs to maintain proper plant health threw out the growing season.
gmil6184
If you are asking if you should do one or the other I would say lime. First of all it is cheaper and 90 percent of food plots are on the low end of the ph scale so it couldn't hurt to add more lime. It looks like you have brassicas planted which are annuals so I would save the fert for right before planting next spring and lime in the meantime.
