Trading DMPs

Why the hell do you guys apply for tags in areas you dont hunt then try to trade them. Sorry but this really tweeks me. Dumbest thing the DEC did was allow you to sign over tags. Why because its turned into a trading game. Now the ones that live and hunt in areas that want and use a DMP are losing opportunities to get selected because Joe Blow just had to have a tag in an area he will never hunt in because the opportunity was medium or high for second chance. I call bullshit on this trading crap.

If you dont like it, dont do it. Its all legal, and not morally wrong, so why do you care? I know for me, 90% of my deer hunting is done in 3N, and a small amount in 3G. That being said, I certainly wanted to get a tag for 3N. 3G had no tags available for a second chance this year. I wasnt going to make 3G my first choice, and 3N my second, and then most likely not get a 3N. So, I put in for two 3N's, and, for the first time, to my suprise, I got both. So, whats wrong with me trying to trade one for a 3G?? I don't need two for 3N, I already have a bow either sex tag, and I wont take more than 2 does from where I hunt in 3N. I'd like to have the option to take a doe if I should see one during shotgun season in 3G...

Whats so wrong with that...? No body is saying they dont hunt where they have their tags for... They most likely have 2 for that area, and would like to open up their options.. Or, they have acquired new hunting land since mid august when most people bought their licenses.

I dont do it and wont. If no permits are available where I hunt I dont apply for an area in hopes of trading and taking the chance away for someone who actually hunts that area from getting one themself. Thats my whole point.

Ok... And I dont believe anyone else here does that either.. I would not agree with applying for a DMP in a place that you do not hunt in whatsoever, and thats something I personally would not do either... Like I said, 90% of my hunting is in 3N, so I always just apply for 3N. I have always just gotten one, this year I was lucky enough to get 2. Since I was lucky enough to get the 2 for 3N, I'm trying to trade one for 3G, where I will be doing a little bit of hunting this year, and I know there's some nice does where I will hunting. What's wrong with me trying to get a tag for 3G, since I was able to get 2 for 3N, and help someone else out who's looking for a 3N tag at the same time... Sportsman helping Sportsman...

You and me are talking about 2 totaly different scenerios, or so it seems....

I live in 6P and have a friend who has access to land in 7J. Usually 6P has none for a 2nd choice so I put 7J in case I get a buck and get a chance to go with him I can use the 7J. If it looks like I'm not going to get a chance I will swap it for another 6P since I can walk out the back door and hunt there.

I completely understand why one would do that. See you have a plan and a place to use that tag. Its just applying for them and then trying to trade with strangers on the internet in hopes someone has the tag you want that is a tad disturbing to me.

Now that I totaly agree with. Anyone who just applies for a random DMP tag in hope to trade for what they want dosent sit well with me either. I didnt really think of anyone doing something like that, and as you said, I would call bullshit on THAT as well. That is not at all what I intended this thread to be when I posted it, nor is it what I am trying to do. I'm sure my 2 3N tags will get used this season, whether by me, someone I trade it to, or, one of my hunting buddies that also hunt in 3N. Being I got 2 this year, I'm just trying to see if anyone would rather have a 3N tag, that has a 3G tag. For example, 3G has no chance for a second choice, but high for first. 3N has high, and medium. I'm looking for someone that mostly hunts 3N, hunts a little 3G, and put 3G as their first choice, and 3N as their second, hoping to get both, but only got 3G, and would rather have the 3N, even though do they a little hunting in 3G, or, like covert said, maybe 3G is where they hunt if they get a deer at a different location first.

Sorry for the long post, hope it all makes sence.. lol

I figured we where on the same page just not understanding each other. See you have a plan and hunt the area you apply for. For years a couple guys at camp would apply for 7r just because the chances where high and not once did they even attempt to use them. Thats the stuff that irritates me, opportunities lost for other hunters that would of loved to get those tags but maybe got denied and there sits a couple guys with tags burning holes in their pocket. Life is all good, have a great hunting season!
