Hi all, my name is Chris. I was referred here from a friend and have been checking out the forum for a bit. I finally have somewhere to go and talk hunting and in New York!!! Win win for me. I am a brand new hunter, took both my hunting safety and bowhunting safety courses as I was up in the air about which route to go. Right now, I'm going for the late season shotgun here in Suffolk with my girlfriend's father. I;m looking forward to chatting with everyone here on the boards and try to share and learn alot about the sport.

You will get addicted to archery.Just a heads up.Be prepared to be spending all year thinking about bow hunting and saving for gear.Archery will teach you to be a better hunter since you have to be so much more cautious, quiet, and scent free. You have to really scout hard and plan and play the wind a lot.It will get you addicted and pi$$ed off both at the same time.

Welcome to Huntingny.

Welcome! Special firearms in January is a blast I heard.

For my very first time, I'm looking forward to this and getting out to the woods. I hope to see some sort of activity although I know it's late season, towards the end of the rut if it's still in swing.

I've been thinking all year about hunting LOL. My whole reasoning behind not going to archery yet it I have no steady hand to shoot and I want to have ethical shots and not have a deer suffer living with an arrow coming out of it because of a bad shot on my end. Yes I know it happens, but I'd rather the humane shots.

A benefit to archery season is I can see all phases of the rut. Not sure if someone mentioned that here or I was speaking to a friend about that too.
