Parts of the military have switched from lead ammo to non-lead, with soldiers in Afghanistan now carrying non-lead. Although it is not available for civilians, it is reported that .223 non-lead out preforms .308 lead. The Army's PowerPoint shows the reasons.

But I've got a lifetime supply of very expensive lead bullets that I have to use up before I die. There's no way that I'm going to throw them all out and buy all new no matter what the benefits .....lol.
