Looking for a .177 pellet rifle...

for my twin 9yr old twin boys. Trying to keep it under $200.00 , should I look into buying used, benjamin nitro piston looks cool + it comes with a scope. Just looking to plink and rodent control for myself.

The Benji nitro's are a good option. Most notably, in cold weather. Cocking effort, and size of the gun, of course, is an issue, when it comes to your 9 year old sons. Are you getting 2 different ones-1 for your sons, and one for yourself? If so, the Nitro Venom/Raven combo is a good deal. You'll get 2 air rifles for just a little over $200.

I'm thinking that the Benji Nitro is more than likely too big for your sons. I've never seen a Benji Nitro in a youth size, but I could be wrong.

Yeah guys thanks, just looked and 8 lbs is kind of heavy, thanks for that link 13BVET, maybe thats the answer but the kids gun has no sites and no scope mount. I'm in no hurry so I can wait till I find something.

Plenty of other reasonable options on there. I deal with them exclusively. There is another option for you! Try airgunsdaily.com. They tend to sell refurbs (which can actually be better, since they're totally rebuilt) for some very reasonable prices.

Just so I understand, a spring piston is not good in the cold but a nitro piston is. You guys think a nitro is better to be looking at and I should forget the spring. I dont know a lot about guns, I like archery more and have not shot my pistols or shotguns/rifles in a long time.

A Nitro is definitely much better in the cold!

Springs are a thing of the past, more and more break barrels are coming put in gas pistons rather than springs. Springs have many disadvantages, and only one advantage, it's wallet friendly.

I wouldn't look to get a break barrel for your kids, but rather maybe a multiple pump. They are lighter weight and much easier to charge up than a break barrel with a cocking effort of nearly 20-30 lbs. For plinking, you can't beat a multipump.

For yourself, you can get a nice Benjamin Trail or if budget conscious, Crosman Nitro Venom. Both are gas ram rifles, and both comes equipped with a factory scope. I firmly believe picatini rails are a must on magnum springers.

Here's a tip, get the gun from pyramydair.com and load up on a good 8 different tins of pellets(JSB 8.4 gr is a must) and pay for 6 tins. Shoot a couple hundred through the barrel and settle on the most accurate pellet out of the 8 quality pellets selected. If none shoots to your satisfaction, call PA and request an exchange of the airgun until you are satisfied. They will cover shipping both ways.
