DEC Tagged bears in Allegany County

Ok folks.  This weekend I was bowhunting and had a male bear that had blue/green ear tags on it.  The bear was not afraid of humans at all.  I was yelling, throwing things at it and was about to take the animal but was not offered a shot.  But at least I got alot of video.  Contacted the local DEC bear biologist and he stated that there is an area in Ceres, NY off Bells Brook Road that is an "authorized release zone" for garbage bears.  The bear that I saw was released less than 30 days ago.  So I guess I will have to live with the face that there are going to be more bears in the neighborhood.  Which really sucks because of the reading that I have done, an adult bear can take 10-12 fawns a year.  Not very happy with the DEC right now.  We put alot of time and effort into our land and to know that the herd if going to be effected like this is not good.  I may be bear hunting this weekend.  Oh and to make things better, the bear meat is not good for human consumption for 60 days after it has been sedated, but how are we to know that by the tag on the bear.  Not that I would eat the meat anyway, which is why I do not hunt bear.  I am a conservationist and use the whole animal.  But I will take the bear rug at this point.

I love bear meat. but there is a HUGE difference in taste between garbage bears and a bear on a natural diet. Kind of a "you are what you eat thing.

They really should publicize the 60 day thing. This is the first I have heard of that and it would suck to take one and not know it until it was checked in.
