Sterling forest idea

So, I was thinking about bow hunting sterling during the regular season. Going into one of the bow only areas and seeing what happens. I know that place is a war zone opening weekend and the deer all try and find a safe place to be. I wonder if the bow only areas will be seeing a lot more action with all the shots going off. Any opinions.

I have thought about it a number of times, but have never actually done it. It sounds like a good idea to try for sure. I think trying to find a spot in one of the many swamps is a good move too.

I have never had the orange army feel about Sterling. In fact I can count the other hunters I have seen in the woods over the last five years on one hand and still have fingers left over, and I have hunted a whooollee lot there in the last five years. I will say I have never hunted opening day though, only bow, regular after opening, muzz, and turkey.

That's interesting that you don't see many other hunters in a park so close to NYC.  I was looking at a map of the park, and noticed quite a few woods/logging type roads that cut thru the park, along with other hiking trails.  I would think that one could be successful still hunting from these roads/trails, especially later during the gun season and the M/L season.  I've never been to Sterling, but have hiked in Harriman state park on the other side of I87 for years and have come upon plenty of deer walking the trails.  I think an observant still hunting may see MORE deer in a park like Sterling in comparison to someone hunting from a stand.  Harriman is only a stones throw away from Sterling, so I can't imagine it couldn't work there.
