Hunting the Erwin State forest

Hey guys, I'm new to hunting. jusy wanted a point of direction on where to start. I've been researching a lot, but that's all I can do for now. Anyways I've started plotting on where I'd like to hunt for my first time. I've been reading 8X in Steuben is an exciting area. I'm thinking of choosing Erwin park. What do you guys think of the area? How should I go about doing this? Also I'm how hunting, just in case you guys needed to know. Thanks!

I hunted Erwin state reforestation area near Campbell for about 15 years back when I started hunting. I happened to drive there to look around and In the last few years, they did MAJOR clear cutting and logging and I have to imagine there are some bucks who are pretty good at never being seen. In my early years, you'd see fork horns and 6 points but I think part of that was our lack of hunting experience. Bring a compass, easy to get lost. Good memories hunting there.

Pretty sure I missed a SLAM DUNK gobbler in the Erwin Forest back in 1982 or 83.  Oh never mind, you want to hunt deer.
